I would just to like to thank everyone on this board for all their kind messages of support. I am very moved.
I am fine - although slightly reeling from all the publicity -pottering about and really just wanting to be left to quietly heal and reshape my life.
I will be at gardener's World Live on June 14th & 15th, albeit in a slightly abbreviated fashion, and am looking forward to it.
I think that it is inappropriate for me to appear on these boards any more so shall not be responding to any further messages but will dip into them from time to time, not least because for me the best thing about Gardener's World was always you lot - the audience.
Anyway, thanks again. Have fun
Monty
Thanks for your response Monty. Personally I don't see why it would be inappropriate for you to post on the board, albeit in a different capacity. All the very best for your future plans.
Please contunue to post Monty.
There was a lovely full page article about you in the Observer this morning, and it mentioned your message board tributes.
xxxx
Don't worry Monty, all inappropriate posts get modded fairly quickly!

Ooops, pressed "post" too soon!
Wanted to ask if you would be there as a garden gnome but it's all gone wrong!
Enjoy your summer!
aaaaaaaah, how sweet that dear Monty replied to us all! Makes me love him all the more!
If this is supposed to be sarcasm then we don't need it!!!!!
Monty - it's highly APPROPRIATE for you to continue posting. In the main these board are for gardeners - whether experienced, new to the joys of the garden, or just plain interested in plants - doesn't that apply to you???? Keep well and take it easy
Lovely to hear from you Monty!
Take great care of yourself, your own health and wellbeing are more important than any job!
Cheers
mavishelen, if you are referring to my posting, no, it wasn't meant to be sarcasm, I meant it.
Hi Monty! I'm glad you took the time to post to us all but I really see no reason why you should not continue to post on the board. If you felt you needed to you could change your sign on so that you could be as annoymous as the rest of us. At the end of the day, since the changes, this board is crying out for knowledge, and you have that by the bucket load.
Anyway, I wish you a continuing(spl ) recovery and hopefully I will catch you at GW Live if I get there. I may come now just to check you are taking it easy.................
Very best wished for the future
HSL
What a good idea Hottie!
Monty can post under a pseudonym if he wants and needs a bit of peace for a while.
And then I won't be able to fawn over him and will probably argue!
It'll be therapeutic Monty - especially since I don't know what I'm talking about much of the time
xx
I think you'll work out its him Nooj But I have a sneaking suspicion he could trust you to keep it a secret. Me? I hardly recognise myself when I change my name, let alone anyone else
Think about it Monty. People on here are pretty genuine on the whole and would respect your wish to be annonymous. If they don'y, they will suffer the wrath of Nooj!
Great to hear from you Monty. I hope that you will feel able to contribute to the boards further, when you feel ready. Here's hoping for a good summer!
All the best Monty, Take care.
o.k. if it wasn't sarcasm I am sorry, we all miss monty and are glad he took the time to post a message on this board considering how poorly he has been.
Thanks, mavishelen. Don't know why it sounded sarcastic, I was just overcome with emotion for a minute there, I genuinely thought it was sweet of him to bother replying to us plebs.
I agree with the posters that I do hope Monty joins Gardener's Anonymous from time to time but sitting at a computer is not really resting, so I hope he spends even more time not at his computer, while he learns how not to be a workaholic.
Hi Monty - Friday nights won't be the same without you but glad you'll have more time to enjoy your own garden. I hope you'll keep on writing though as I think you have a special something as a writer - I particularly enjoyed 'The Jewel Garden'. Take care and warm wishes.
Hi Monty,Hope you feel better soon.Just try to take it easy with no added stress. My dad had a stroke and would still be here now if he had not bowed to pressure to carry on as before.
Your stroke may have only been a mild one but it was a warning to slow down at to take it one day at a time.Life is too precious to ignore the signs and your health comes first. All the best and I hope you enjoy the summer...
Monty - thank you for taking the trouble to post your thanks! A very gracious gesture that is much appreciated - as have all your previous postings been, too.
I hope you continue to make good progress. Good luck and good health!

ttfn Monty have great day.
May I just speak up for the younger people who have come into gardening, and have started to enjoy Gardener's world really only since 'The Don' started.
Monty brought a much needed freshness and passion to gardening on the television, I always felt he was a decent an 'proper' bloke, one you'd happily have a pint with rather than one who always seems to be talking to the blue rinse brigade.
I have since come to enjoy Monty's writing and find solace in the collections of The Observer columns and inpspiring in the the 'Complete Gardener' - it is my first port of call for veg advice. I find the turn of phrase relaxing and rather melancolic. But above all it makes me want to get out there and grow.
Thank you so much, you are a national treasure.
I'd love to say a huge thank to you for all your supportand encouragement you've given me during the last two years of my lottie life.
Now I guess you've the perfect excuse to sit and watch your gardens growing.
Don't stay out of the gardening world for too long, but concentrate on getting yourself back to peak form.
I will miss your "real gardener" approach!
Thank you for being there for us all
Thank you for taking the time to let us know that you are 'pottering about', this is just what we all needed to know, a true indication to all of us that you are on the mend. The best news we have heard.
Please don't think it inappropriate for you to appear on this board. We do understand that you are going to need time and space to heal but when you feel able we would love to hear from you. As I have mentioned on previous postings, your knowledge and friendship is invaluable to us all and really lifts the spirits to think that you think us 'important' enough to take time out and correspond with us.
I too will be at Gardeners World on the 14th and shall look forward to seeing you, although I am sure at a distance.
Once again I would like to thank you for making Friday evenings at 8.30 p.m over the last 5 years so enjoyable.
Although your future has taken a sudden change in direction I hope you will soon make a full recovery and enjoy wherever it takes you.
You will always find friends on this board.
With very best wishes
Paperwhite
Monty,
Still shocked to hear you had to leave us but please don't abandon us on the boards as well. Your input in discussions has always been positive and lets face it we need the opinion of someone who has been in front of the camera.
I personally don't think you would ever do anything inappropriate!
Chris
Hello Handsome!
Any risk of a Monty Gardening Calendar to raise cash for charity of your choice?
You can keep your hat on.
MLxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ML thats a good idea. I could take the pictures.
A newbie wishing Monty well
I can't see that it would be "inappropriate" for you to post Monty. You are still you and ill health is not going to change what you know or what you do. Please still help us where you can.
Good luck, good health and come back soon.
ML - Good Idea - we could buy Nooj one!
And love to Sara too - it must be hard to share your husband with so many others wanting his attention. From the way Monty speaks of her I'm pleased to think she couldn't be more supportive. Good luck to all of you.xx
You're right again Jeemar
he said when they met it was something like an instant recognition of a fellow soul,( or something similar.)
So lovely to hear
What a kind man Monty is. Hope he doesnt dissapear from the boards permanently, my DBH says" Monty Don seems to be the most important person in your life" of course I told him he is the 2nd most important.
Look after yourself Monty and keep the articles and books coming.

Hmmm... yes Nooj - pity she was already married!!
Glad you're on the mend Monty - gardening is a great remedy, as I've found over the last few weeks while I've been under the weather, although I have to admit I've now asked for help from a local gardener to help me get back on top of the weeds. All the best to you and your family for a speedy recovery.
pity she was already married!!Â
what? who was? what does Penwithprincess mean, Nooj? musbeshomishtake ........
Thank you so much Monty for taking time to visit the message boards - it is lovely to hear from you - everyone is sending their best wishes for your recovery. We do miss you but don't want you to come back before you're fit!
I agree - if you want to post on here you should - we'd love it! As already mentioned you could change your nickname and become an anonymous gardener!
Best wishes to you and your family

So pleased to hear you are out and about Monty. Just wanted to repeat my thanks for turning me on to veg growing - its the most therapeutic thing I've ever done. Miss your Observer column -hope eventually you'll write some more books/ articles - you have a wonderful way with words on the page.
Meantime spend lots of time with your family and garden and get completely well.

Thank you.
Monty, is GW Live really such a good idea?? Take it easy if you go, because it looks like you'll be mobbed by well-wishers. I'll try not to add to the scrum but will add to all those here & on other sites!
I hope you'll be able to enjoy life without health worries very soon. You'll be missed on GW but you've made a massive contribution and that'll be remembered by the legions of fans. However, Gardens of the World was so stunningly brilliant, I do hope you'll be able to give us more of the same sometime in the future.
I don't see why you can't stay & comment here but your own blog would be far more interesting ..................Every good wish for the future, Monty.
Monty I dont think that it will be inapropriate for you to post on here but I do think that you need a good rest and time to chill out.
Thanks for your reply too.
take it easy and many hugs
Zoe
Monty, get away from that computer now. And no wireless nonsense in the garden either! It's suddenly occurred to me that good old-fashioned fan mail may do more for Monty than this rush of messages online. It is, of course, natural to wish him all the best, and for him to respond to these posts. But if he's going away now, and for good reason, and for quite a while, let him go. Those who are deeply in love with him or who just miss him on GW could write him a lovely long letter and send it to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú. I'm sure they will pass them on.
Hi monty,
I am sorry u will not be on the board as i looked forward to reading your advice. I have had by/pass surgery and an opreation called an endarterectomy big name but only a small op out the following day.But i must say seeing your program on tv gave a lot of pleasure in fact i ecorded all gardening programs,it helped me get over it.I love gardening in fact i live for it,best wishes for a speedy recovery.
reguards, billypea
