I would just to like to thank everyone on this board for all their kind messages of support. I am very moved.

I am fine - although slightly reeling from all the publicity -pottering about and really just wanting to be left to quietly heal and reshape my life.

I will be at gardener's World Live on June 14th & 15th, albeit in a slightly abbreviated fashion, and am looking forward to it.

I think that it is inappropriate for me to appear on these boards any more so shall not be responding to any further messages but will dip into them from time to time, not least because for me the best thing about Gardener's World was always you lot - the audience.

    Anyway, thanks again. Have fun

Hi Monty! I'm glad you took the time to post to us all but I really see no reason why you should not continue to post on the board. If you felt you needed to you could change your sign on so that you could be as annoymous as the rest of us. At the end of the day, since the changes, this board is crying out for knowledge, and you have that by the bucket load.

Anyway, I wish you a continuing(spl smiley - winkeye) recovery and hopefully I will catch you at GW Live if I get there. I may come now just to check you are taking it easy.................smiley - yikes

    What a good idea Hottie!

Monty can post under a pseudonym if he wants and needs a bit of peace for a while.
And then I won't be able to fawn over him and will probably argue!
It'll be therapeutic Monty - especially since I don't know what I'm talking about much of the time

Thanks, mavishelen. Don't know why it sounded sarcastic, I was just overcome with emotion for a minute there, I genuinely thought it was sweet of him to bother replying to us plebs.

I agree with the posters that I do hope Monty joins Gardener's Anonymous from time to time but sitting at a computer is not really resting, so I hope he spends even more time not at his computer, while he learns how not to be a workaholic.

Hi Monty,Hope you feel better soon.Just try to take it easy with no added stress. My dad had a stroke and would still be here now if he had not bowed to pressure to carry on as before.

Your stroke may have only been a mild one but it was a warning to slow down at to take it one day at a time.Life is too precious to ignore the signs and your health comes first. All the best and I hope you enjoy the summer...

May I just speak up for the younger people who have come into gardening, and have started to enjoy Gardener's world really only since 'The Don' started.

Monty brought a much needed freshness and passion to gardening on the television, I always felt he was a decent an 'proper' bloke, one you'd happily have a pint with rather than one who always seems to be talking to the blue rinse brigade.

I have since come to enjoy Monty's writing and find solace in the collections of The Observer columns and inpspiring in the the 'Complete Gardener' - it is my first port of call for veg advice. I find the turn of phrase relaxing and rather melancolic. But above all it makes me want to get out there and grow.

Thank you so much, you are a national treasure.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know that you are 'pottering about', this is just what we all needed to know, a true indication to all of us that you are on the mend. The best news we have heard.
Please don't think it inappropriate for you to appear on this board. We do understand that you are going to need time and space to heal but when you feel able we would love to hear from you. As I have mentioned on previous postings, your knowledge and friendship is invaluable to us all and really lifts the spirits to think that you think us 'important' enough to take time out and correspond with us.
I too will be at Gardeners World on the 14th and shall look forward to seeing you, although I am sure at a distance.
Once again I would like to thank you for making Friday evenings at 8.30 p.m over the last 5 years so enjoyable.
Although your future has taken a sudden change in direction I hope you will soon make a full recovery and enjoy wherever it takes you.
You will always find friends on this board.
    With very best wishes

Glad you're on the mend Monty - gardening is a great remedy, as I've found over the last few weeks while I've been under the weather, although I have to admit I've now asked for help from a local gardener to help me get back on top of the weeds. Monty, is GW Live really such a good idea?? Take it easy if you go, because it looks like you'll be mobbed by well-wishers. I'll try not to add to the scrum but will add to all those here & on other sites!

I hope you'll be able to enjoy life without health worries very soon. You'll be missed on GW but you've made a massive contribution and that'll be remembered by the legions of fans. However, Gardens of the World was so stunningly brilliant, I do hope you'll be able to give us more of the same sometime in the future.

I don't see why you can't stay & comment here but your own blog would be far more interesting ..................Every good wish for the future, Monty.

Monty, get away from that computer now. And no wireless nonsense in the garden either! It's suddenly occurred to me that good old-fashioned fan mail may do more for Monty than this rush of messages online. It is, of course, natural to wish him all the best, and for him to respond to these posts. But if he's going away now, and for good reason, and for quite a while, let him go. Those who are deeply in love with him or who just miss him on GW could write him a lovely long letter and send it to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú. I'm sure they will pass them on.
