Can anyone remember what Monty said about a chemical or supplement thst helps tree and shrub roots get going faster when you've planted a shrub or tree from a pot into the final position???
It was on Gardeners World a while ago??
He said you can buy it from Garden Centres.
Thanks in advance

I can't remember what Monty advised, but you need a fertiliser that is high in phosphorus to aid root development initially, most big brands do one.

It was some kind of fungus Nooj but I can't remember what it was called.

Could it be something along the lines of RootGrow (see link above) - a product containing fungi that help the tree's roots obtain nutrients while it establishes its vital hair roots? Maybe Rootgrow is a brand name but if you read the product contents you might find it in a form suitable for trees.
These fungi work in perfect symbiosis with the tree and there is no doubt it can only promote early establishment.

Mycorrhizal fungi is the additive that you can use for planting trees and shrubs. Here on the nursery we also use it to bring on young plants, it can give us as much as 6 months advantage.
It works by attaching itself to the roots of a plant and in effect giving the plant a secondary capillary root system enabling int to absorb nutrients and water more effectively. In return the plant gives the fungi sugars back.
To find out more about it goto
It is something that occurs naturally in nature and is recognised as being one of the largest living organisms in the world.

I used it when I was moving some roses (slightly) last year. It was to circumvent the 'don't grow roses where they've grown before' rule... I had to as I had nowhere else for them. So I dug them out and replanted each in a large cardboard box filled with soil, manure and this mycorrhizal fungi stuff.
Result is, naturally, they had a bit of a setback last year, but this year have really come back as good as before with no signs of disease at all. So I'd say it works well.
