Yesterday I was at gardeners world live at the NEC and as I walked past Joe Swift chatting to a couple and his words were " well its not 100% certain but 90% that I'll be getting the main presenters Job at gardeners world."
If you'd like a peek at the pics i have posted them on the www.gardenersforum.net website approx 50 pics posted . hope you all enjoy and please come and join us there.

Does Joe know anything for sure? I know one thing for sure, he will not be so happily accepted like the previous presenters.

No,no, NO,please not Joe Swift. I'm sure he is a sound bloke and all the rest of it but he does not enthuse me. Find someone new - young, knowledgable, enthusiatic and with a sense of humour and able to recognise that we all can't buy plants in threes and fives as we garden on limited budgets.
I loved Geoff Hamilton, Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don, each had their own unique style and in Geoff's case - that most important attribute- the Common touch that we could all relate to.
I don't envy the people who have to make the decision on this - you can't please all of the people....

    Oh dear.

I never understood why Joe Swift was picked as a assistant presenter anyway. There are hundreds of other more polished, talented and experienced garden designers and gardeners out there — you only have to drop in on a lecture or symposium at Chelsea or one of the other shows to know that.

I suppose Joe's 'ordinary and 'one of the lads' and we all know the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú treasures 'ordinary' above any other quality.

I think if this is in fact true, then Gardener's world is in trouble.
I don't have anything personally against Joe. Think he's a swell guy.
But it goes to show that they're looking for a head "presenter" and not a head "gardener".

I don't think he's got the horticultural knowledge to be the nation's head gardener.
An example is in his first bit of his allotment he was calling Monty for help in what to do with his garlic and onion sets.

I don't expect the head of the show to know absolutely everything, but they've got to be pretty close for me.

    I pray it's not true.

    Happy gardening.

No, it's not 1st April. Nevertheless, someone has a wicked sense of humour. Poor Joe has almost been getting a sympathetic ride from me recently following his disastrous performance down at the allotment, and NO-ONE has touted his name as a likely successor to Monty Don (and I think every other possible candidate has had an airing on the Board). Indeed, his place on the programme should be questionable in future. It should therefore be clear (even to the twits that produce GW) that this would not be a popular decision. Personally, I doubt that Joe will be elevated to 'heid bummer', but I'm troubled that he would have been so indiscreet as to mention it to the OP unless it had some credence. Still, I remember some years ago that the Beechgrove Garden was presented by a non-gardener - but I doubt if Joe would wish to be seen as the innocent bumpkin. Perhaps more rumours will emerge from the GW Show over the next few days which will provide confirmation or contradiction.

I don't have a problem with Joe, I like his bits on GW but I don't think he could really carry the whole programme. He has been doing more the last couple of weeks and he has been ok, I guess if thats what happens we have to give him a chance - maybe he will prove us wrong and become a great Head Gardener. I will say in his favour that he is not afraid to admit he doesn't know something.

Not very exciting though, I think it needs a presenter with a bit more of a dynamic personality. People either loved or loathed MD, he stuck his neck out and stuck to his beliefs whatever critism he encountered. I'm not sure Joe has that strong character - but I'm prepeared to give him a chance.

I'm sad its not Carol, I have enjoyed her so much these past weeks, her knowledge absolutely shines through and makes you want to get out there.

Alice and her dog? No, not for me.

I'm afraid Joe's become a joke and I hope this is one too.

I remember thinking he did a good job of explaining how to prune that Guinée rose in the courtyard garden but that is ione single positive memory in all the time he's been at Berryfields.

He was out of his depth with those container veg, I did not like his garden made between Monty's shade and Carol's free seeds and cuttings gardens and then there's the sweet potatoes in the jungle garden, those obelisks, the throw away jasmine, the chucking of the rosemary without taking cuttings and that allotment.

If the Beeb can't be bothered to plan, fund and film a GW with quality content and presenters it would be better to shut it down now and just broadcast Beechgrove to the whole nation.

Remember that old wartime saying: Loose lips sink ships? I'll have to have a word with Joe! I've just spoken to Rosemary Edwards, the series producer, who says that they are still talking to various people about the role and that no decision has been made. Well Wombwelltranquility, with a nickname like that, I don't believe a word of it. Chinese whispers, I say. In fact, maybe you are JS in disguise, touting for business smiley - biggrin.

I really don't think Joe is the right person to front GW. He seems like a very likeable chap, but how can he shine a light to his predecessors or indeed to the other potential candidates, many of whom I am sure have been discussed on these boards. I have to say if this is the route the Beeb choose to take, I really don't think I will ever watch GW again, which is a tragedy for me because I have always looked forward to it and have been watching since I got my first garden twenty years ago.

I saw part of last week's programme and really enjoyed it. Children prevented me from seeing it all, but Alys and Carol were great (lots of useable info) and I thought Matthew was as professional, knowledgeable and down to earth as ever.

Having seen Toby Buckland's piece to camera last week and his ethical garden at GWLive, he has the ideal credentials to be main presenter of GW, so I hope his name is in the frame of candidates WHEN and IF the production team decide a new lead presenter is necessary.

I think its just going to have to be a case of wait and see!
I am fingers crossed that its going to be Carol as she is really down to earth and so enthusiatic about plants.
I went to GW Live on Wed and it was my first show and I thought it was amazing!

What is needed is a complete change.
Joe has no personality, Carol is, well still gushy, and Alys, difficult to say.

But together, they all do not inspire confidence, I tape the programme, do not watch it live now, so I can skip the bits that are of little or no interest.
Before now I used to watch and tape it at the same time, so that I could watch the bits I had enjoyed again, now there are few favourite bits!

Sorry but I can't see any of the presenters talking to anyone as to who is going to be the next presenter on G.W.,until it is officially announced by the powers that be. Not the sort of thing they would do,in my book. May be what was heard was misinterprated . Time will tell.

well i'd like to say hi to Aspidistra but unfortunatly im not JS im just a builder who has a florist for my other half. We have a great love for gardening and enjoy watching GW ourselves. I joined www.gardenersforum.net as i was gettting rather cheesed off with peoples attitude's on the bbc message boards and found it to be a much more pleasant site to be a member of. I am not tout either. But if thats what you think then it goes to show how long you have been using these boards and why i switched sites. Now you know why i didnt post my pics on here.
