Anyone like to bet that Toby Buckland (I never heard of him or saw him before these last two programmes) is the 'de facto' new lead on GW?

He appears out of nowhere, 'planted' in the programmes just when everyone is wondering who is going to take the lead and coincidentally hits the right chords on just about everything being discussed/wished for by many on the boards.

With Monty gone, as long as the new lead knows his stuff, then personally I don't care who it is, though some screen charisma is a requirement.

(I do wish it could be Carol but I'm guessing that her business must come first)

OK - so who's up for it?

I championed Toby quite a few weeks back on another thread.
I really like him. Know his stuff as well. Can seem to make anything out of scaps of stuff as well so he'll be quite handy. Don't imagine him buying £150 obelisks either.
He's been on certain gardening programmes that you find on UK Style Gardens as a designer for quick fix gardens, but that's not really his style.

Last year on GW they did a feature on his own home garden and it was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.
His garden at GW live would have won best in show at any of the flower shows. It was amazing.

I hope he gets it. Knowledgeable(sp?) and very friendly. Perfect.

I was catching up with some recent GWs last night that I'd had to miss (but recorded) and was thinking that too. He seemed really knowledgable, enthusiastic and, importantly, at ease in front of the camera. They could do a lot, lot, worse smiley - winkeye

I've always thought that Toby knows his stuff- his written articles really demonstrate that- he also writes with wit and charm which I love too! This really comes across in front of the camera. Lets hear it from the man who knows about veg, flowers and how to make things look nice! More please!!

Yes I thought Toby Buckland was the best of the bunch on GW recently. He has the same unpretentious, friendly style that Alan Titchmarsh used to have and is so sorely lacking in the other presenters at the moment... He does seem to have a lot of fans. I wonder if the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú prog execs ever read these posts?

That's it, let's have yet another Toby Buckland thread. Anyway I'm off to start yet another Joe Swift thread or even a Monty Don thread. Do some people actually bother to read down the list of thread titles to see if one has already been started? No?

Ever the tactful and diplomatic turn of phrase, copperPaul!

Sorry if the thread is a repeat, but I do not have very much time to trawl the boards.

Just to set the record straight, my thread is not an endorsement of Toby Buckland as lead on GW. As I wrote I know absolutely nothing about him, but I do feel TPTB are putting him into position, as it were, and I wondered if other posters felt this also.

As I also wrote, I would much rather see Carol take the lead. Her depth of knowledge and hands-on-work with plants really keeps me stuck to my seat whenever she is on-screen and long may she continue on GW, especially from Glebe Cottage.

No need to trawl the boards looking for Joe Swift/Monty Don/Toby Buckland/Carol Klein threads. They're all there to see. There are so many to choose from, I can't quite understand why the moderator doesn't lump them together.

Tact or diplomacy, eh? As much as GW in it's current form irritates me, it pales into insignificance when I read some of the threads here.

No need to trawl, it's all in the titles and I agree with CP that there are too many on the same subjects on this board. Just how many "Good luck Monty" threads do we need? and why so many MD replacement speculation threads? All anyone needs to do before starting a ne wthread is read the first page of the board.

As for the G hosts, I too feel they should have tidied things up. It happens on the Archers board and the Food boards and the G hosts are happy enough to close down threads on the Design boards so why not tidy up this board?

I do hope the powers that Beeb take note of some of the more constructive comments made here by people who clearly care deeply about GW and its future but I can't help feeling the current GW editorial and production team are impervious.

Actually I do wish there was a way in which threads could be joined together when they are on the same subject then also it would make searching for them easier.

Well bluedoyenne, I have trawled through my own threads on your behalf and here's what some other people thought:

I think it is hard to find previous threads but I guess if you repeat a subject then people will be less likely to respond second time around? This must happen all the time on the clinic thread.

It's a bit different on the Clinic which attracts a different set of posters and people are happy - up to a point - to answer the same questions time and again to help new posters. Some of them never click on the TV board where everything is more topical and current and situations pass whereas actual gardening Clinic problems come round season after season.

I have always assumed that people start their own thread here when there is already one in existence because they are worried that their own opinion/good wishes will get lost in amongst the others.

There is a very limited choice of topic for this board, as a result of which not so many threads are started. Someone starting their own thread has a better chance of having their own particular feelings on the 'front page' for a longer period.

I totally agree that there are too many threads covering too few topics. This, however is bound to happen on this board as we have too few gardening programmes on which to comment.
I have only just come back to these boards as I am incapacitated at the moment and have time to kill on the computer.I regret the slow strangulation of these boards by the powers that be,applaud the people who have stayed with it, but regret, I won't be back smiley - sadface
