First off, what's wrong with Monty Don that he isn't around? Personally I didn't like his style of gardening or presenting and feel that now GW has gone back to the higher standard it had pre-MD. Carol gives an honest and clear explanation and doesn't patronise as MD did.
Well I don't know why you bothered asking if you feel like that
OOps
Sorry, that sounded a bit aggressive.
Since you ask, he had a mild stroke, interested, and has therefore stepped down. It's covered extensively on other threads here.
There was also a msg from the MD himself. But somehow I never quite took to him either. Wish him well and all that, but I can't be patronising and say how sorry I am that we're getting a new presenter. I look forward to finding out who the next it will be, I'm not assuming, wishing or even wanting to ask AT back. He was very good, but he has had his time on GW, It was the right time for AT to move on, even though I found it sad, but to come back would be disasterous. I think it would be nice to have a female, altho' rather not rdt. And as Alys says over and over and over again, it'll be "really good" to have new blood.
Monty Don, patronise... how?
As far as I'm concerned he is/was the only presenter on British tv who didn't treat viewers as though they were barely out of pre-school or, at the other end of the scale, in the final stages of senile dementia. Just straightforward, informed, practical knowledge and no gimmicks.
God how I miss him already.
