I have just been picking our black currents And wondered when is the best time to prune them,and how far back I can prune them to maintain a crop for next year.
I have just picked mine and pruned the fruit bearing branches by about a third- read somewhere that you can do that. Or maybe it should have been a third of the branches!! In think you can do it now though anyway.
Thank you for answering Andrew.I have done a search and its suggested cutting the old canes out which encourages the bush to shoot new ones thus renewing the plant. this is done in the spring.found this in the garden society.
