With boots worthy of a tramp sat on a park bench; soil under her fingernails and a face that has obviously launched a thousand summers. Don't we all just LOVE her! Her knowledge and passion for what she does is infectious. She obviously isn't snooty or elitist. She's the girl next door; she's the one you'd run to if your potatoes got blight or your cucumbers drooped.
Carol Klein is the single reason why I tune into Gardener's World.
Why Oh WHY,didn't you even consider her for the position of main presenter? You obviouly don't understand the empathy that transmits out from the presenter to the viewer. Carol has this in trailor-loads.
Haven't we all seen enough of the expressionless
faces of the 'nubile' botoxed 'beauties' that adorn our screen?
I agree. Carol is a great gardener, and her enthusiasm is certainly infectious. I know some people don't take to her,but she is a familiar face on G.W. I have to say I have only heard of Tony Buckland but have never seen him in action. What's wrong with a woman presenter?
I totally agree. A true gardener and, as you rightly say, wearing gardeners' boots/wellies, dirt in her finger nails (haven't we all) and an ability to form a good relationship with her viewers. I think she has come on leaps and bounds as a TV presenter over the last months. I would have been more than happy to learn that she is to be GW's lead presenter. I just hope that there is a valid reason why not, i.e. much too busy with her nursery and other commitments to take on quite a demanding role.
Have you not been reading all the other posts and threads about CK and who might take over as lead presenter? Whilst many find her enthusiasm 'infectious' just as many find her arm waving and shrill expressions manic and excessive in her presentation.

I really enjoy watching Carole, like Alys she's a real gardener, with dirt under her nails. I watch GW for her gardening tips, how to propogate (I'm a new gardner so this is the kind of help I need), she's so enthusiastic about gardening and has been an excellent presenter after Monty left. I too hope she wasn't past over as a permenant presenter because she's female.
Well, this is weird! Few weeks ago, we had posts upon posts singing praise of Chris B and why he should be the one for the job. Now suddenly the tide has turned.
Carol Klein is the single reason why I tune into Gardener's World.Â
She,certainly, makes me feel "safe". I strongly believe that if there's anything about gardening she doesn't know, it can't be worth knowing!
i love carol she doesn't make you feel stupid
she gives me the "i am going to have a go at that"feeling as said earlier her personality is infectious and supporting to all
although i did used to wonder how she used to manage in the clips a while back when she would be gardening with a lovely light coloured wool coat or a scarf draped across her shoulder??
i look like i have just dug up the entire m1 alone!!! and that's when i am pulling a lettuce for tea!!!
(probably t.v. wardrobe malfunction)
I had the pleasure of meeting her years ago at the first RHS show at Tatton Park. She'd been on a gardening programme on C4 and had a stand selling plants from her nursery. She hasn't changed a bit. Quite happy to stand and chat with you, and her earrings haven't changed either! I love her!
She is great! I'm sad she didn't become main presenter. Perhaps she didn't want the workload?

I met her at Chelsea a couple of years ago - she was charming.Very down to earth and willing to stop and chat to anyone who wanted to.
A lovely girl
Greetings.
I am happy to see Carol discussed here, as I came to this message board for the first time tonight to express my views.
If not for Carol and Monty, I would have never watched Gardeners World. I find them both exceptionally engaging and appealing, though if pushed to choose, Carol is my numero uno gardening presenter.
I suspect that Carol is an excellent representative of the typical GW viewer. By this I mean viewers like myself, well-lived women who take pleasure in gardens and gardening. I have l always thought she would be the best lead presenter for the program and I am surprised and disappointed that she was not given the job.
Do we really need another bland, white man on television?
I think not.
There's a good article in The Telegraph (August 22) you can access easily online. In the interview, Carol reveals she was never offered the job. She said she would have loved the opportunity.
It is long past time for GW to have a woman in the lead. Carol is just the woman for the job. Why wasn't she offered the post? Why?
Viva Carol! There is no Gardeners World with you!
"Viva Carol! There is no Gardeners World with you!"Â
I think there's a slight typing error above, judging from the context.
I agree CK is a gardening treasure.
They didn't offer the job to Chris Beardshaw either - which makes you wonder about who and how many they surveyed. It certainly can't have included this community which has had quite a lot to say about whom we would like to see take over.
As far as I'm concerned Carol Klein is a 'British Living Treasure'. She inspires & encourages even the most novice gardener & is a natural & charming presenter.
Backed up with the team of Joe, Alys, Chris & Rachael, GW is going along fine since Monty's sad departure so it is beyond me why Carol has not been offered the job!
As GW has such a huge following it would have been a nice gesture on the part of Management if a viewers vote for their favourite presenter had been considered.

My friend's daughter teaches at a primary school and they started a nature garden and quite a lot of veg. The children were outside and they loved it. The sat all the way through "Grow your own veg" and love Carol. All the others on a tape of GW left them blank. Obviously GW is not aimed at them, but they can all relate to Carol. I also know at an old people's home down the road, the only one they like and recognise is Carol. Also twenty-year olds think Carol is cool because she isn't trying to impress them but only wants to share her joy of plants. They respond to that, but not self-conscious show-offs like Alys or Rachel trying to be hip. ! No shoe laces, Rachel's down with the kids!Alys goes out dancing. All weekend! Move over SophieEllisBextor!
No Carol is a hit with all the age groups because she is great and not just because she is a woman or of a certain age.

"Do we really need another bland, white man on television?"
I object to this question on racial grounds.

So do I.
Well I think it only fair that in the true light of diversity half of the lead presenters of GW should be women. Now let me see, how many have we had.......................
