Most of the subject matter I found a bit boring but thats just personal taste. What I found most dissapointing was the camera production. At times it was shot like a "lifestyle" program. I thought we had seen the back of that

But the subject matter on GW was so dull this week, the arty camera work came as some light relief !

The arty camera work, I fear, is for people with high definition television. People who can feel the full force of Carol's red mackintosh as it hits the potting bench. Gosh, I must really be missing out...

I totally agree. I cannot bear bedding flowers 'en mass', almost disgusting rather like plastic flowers, so gaudy so didn't enjoy the fist section of the program at all. I thought Carols section could have been longer and please let her show her enthusiasm just a bit. Carol was bring the programe round just before the summer break but sadly I thought the programe had lost its sparkle again last night. Boring!

ditto, Toby's piece on getting more from your pansies was good. I know it is very early days for Toby but he just lacks that special something that Carol has, just a little boring.

Perhaps its early days to decide on Toby. Carole seems like a realy nice lady but I can quite understand why she was not chosen as "lead presenter". In AT's days it was "the nation's head gardener" and quite right too !

I really liked Friday's program. It was interesting to see how much work went into the carpet bedding, although I would never do that myself, and my elderly father really enjoyed that section. It is nice that they cater for all tastes. Must admit that I have always had a secret hankering to instal a floral clock on my sloping front lawn......
Also Toby was spot on the mark when he said that you should get into the habit of propogation because you never know when you may need a spare plant. I can never resist taking cuttings just for the joy of taking cuttings, and they always come in useful at some time or other.

I enjoyed the programme but the camera work was awful. At times Toby was just a dot in the distance.
Come on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú you can do better than this.

I was soo disappointed that Toby Buckland has been appointed the new lead in GW, why not the wonderful Carol Klein? After years of male presenters why not finally a woman especially one as capable as Carol who has wonderful enthusiasm and I agree her plant propagation series has been fascinating. But no we're lumbered with a very dull and patronising Mr Buckland. Qutie frankly his explanation of how and why to dead-head plants was patronising beyond belief.
I do feel the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú have played very safe and I do now feel watching GW is nolonger the pleasure it once was. Obviously loosing gorgeous Monty was a blow but this last series has been very disjointed and bitty.

I'm sorry reignhandbagqueen, perhaps we watched different programmes or we have different definitions of patronising but could you tell me where or when in the programme you felt you were being patronised by Toby?

Carol Klein did not apply for the job.

Reignhandbagqueen, I agree with jenks on this one, I don't remember any patronising on GW, at all. I have said this before and will say it again. Carol wasn't picked, not because of her sex, but due to all the posters on 'here', criticising her hair colour, dress sense, even how much cleavage she was showing. Can you imagine those same posters now, if she had become the main presenter! I like Toby, he is very much like Geoff Hamilton, so to me that is a good thing.
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, must try and find a balance between what it does for beginners and what it does for the likes of you and me, people who know quite a bit through experience. I also include the bitty aspect here, too. That is all the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's fault, not Toby's.
There hasn't been a main presenter I haven't liked yet, from Percy through to Toby. They have all been different, in their own way. I still like Carol a lot, going off Joe and for me, the jury is still out on Alys!

Sometimes I think we all get a bit wrapped up in what we want to see. Gardeners are a varied bunch including those that love bedding en-mass. We all started out somwhere and there was a time when I had no idea that dead heading was of any importance. I am a Carol fan too, but she has busy tv career and her own nursery to run which sounds like enough hard work to me!
Its still early days and lets hope there is somthing to please us all over the next few weeks.

What are you on about rhbq? Nothing wrong with the programme. Toby is a good gardening bloke. I enjoy his presentation etc. I love Carol Klein, and would have loved her to be the presenter, and was disappointed when she wasn't chosen. But Toby is doing a good job. Where did the patronising bit come in? I have not G.W. for yonks but I am enjoying it very much again now.
