having watched toby on bbc breakfast today saying thay are starting a new garden every time he tried to talk about they kept chainging the subject to the presenters lawns!we wonder where the new garden will be? the clip they showed looked like a school playing feild, will it be in the midlands again or maybe down here in the south west as most of the presenters live in this area, lets hope they make a proper garden this time one they dont have to keep ripping to shreds like at berryfields as we never got to see anything come to maturity even the long borders we only saw in spring or autumn as they took gardeners world off in the summer when they would have been at their best and lets hope they have plenty of flowers and give us a break from veg.

It's in Birmingham but with so many of the presenters living down here, I wish they'd feature the far SW of England a bit more - even just showing us what they are growing in their own gardens would be something - or a feature from RHS Rosemoor instead of always the RHS garden up north
were exactly do you mean when you say up north Birmingham is a long way south for me

Sorry, I meant the RHS garden up north - I'd forgotten the name but it's near Harrogate in north Yorkshire

Harlow Carr - just remembered!!!!
Anyway - a feature about growing where it is permanently damp, with a high water table, always mild with no frost but often windy would be appreciated
Little Cornflower Don't think they are capable this since they were not able to keep the cameras from damaging the turv at berryfeilds during last years wet summer.
Hi all - the new garden is called Greenacre and you'll be able to see a plan in Gardeners' World Magazine's April issue.
Phyll
Ooooh, I used to live in a area called Greenacres but it wasn't very green.
dwarfbean
Hello Phyll
Will the presenters be Eddie Albert and
Eva Gabor?
...... and lets hope they have plenty of flowers and give us a break from veg.Ìý
Admeto how I, and many others, agree with that sentiment. Despite the growing popularity of veg growing - that we seem to be getting constantly told about - the fact remains that the vast majority of gardens do not have any veg in them. You would think that wanting to see flowers on a gardeninng programme would not be too much to ask, wouldn't you.
All-flower gardening progs are for pansies!!!!
Just a joke, don't get all huffy!
All-flower gardening progs are for pansies!!!!Ìý
Being femail,I don't mind being called a 'pansy' - just don't call me a 'vegetable' (cos I'm not brain-dead)
Here are the lyric to the new gardeners world theme music. I also here they will be licensing
music from the 1960's sitcom.
Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep the city, just give me that countryside.
London is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Piccadilly Circus.
...The chores.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...London bridge
You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.
Umm - hi there Doctor Harry.
Is it some programme I missed?
I did have Tv in the sixties, but need a reminder
well done happytobyfan thats want we want more flowers,i have a small plant stall at our local market and saturday morning the hot topic of the day is what was on gardeners world the night before and most people want more flowers and to see more gardens and not just r.h.s gardens but gardens we can relate to,most people here in dorset who want to grow veg find things out either on line or through word of mouth there are many gardeners that can help quite often next door that know your area and what will grow, most people i talk to love carol kleins garden and hearing talk about plants but she seams to be a bit shoved to the side a bit in the last shows, cant wait for next weeks prog to see what she shows us it will us something new to talk about and plants to long for.we had 8-10 inches of snow yesterday so no gardening today.
Cheers Admeto, thanks for that. I sometimes feel like a 'voice crying in the wilderness' on here, as I think many people, like myself, who have no interest in veg and stuff stoppped watching GW (and subsequently lost interest in the message boards) when MD devoted the majority of GW to his pet subject.
I've always liked Toby (having seen him on Garden Magic and other Sky progs) - however, having just watched the clip from You Tube, which Trillium put on the boards, I no longer feel as optimistic as I did about the new GW
nooj are joking about not knowing the show in question??? the name of the show has been mentioned at least 10 times in this thread. The shows name is similar to the new GW garden's name.
Are you talking about Green Acres, with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor? It was good, I remember it with affection, they were both inept and it was farm rather than a garden.
ps I don't understand why this thread started when there was already one posted by Green Buddha called Goodbye Berryfields.
I hope they get back to presenting a Gardening Programme.......presenting gardening and not Themselves. There was too much unashamed self publicity in the way the programmes appeared to me in last couple of years.
Of course each presenter must be allowed to express his or her personality, but it should be facts, items of gardening interest, tips, views and descriptions of real gardens ( ordinary gardens), design issues, shows etc.etc. etc. etc. interspersed by the presenters being interesting and entertaining if they can......not the other way about!
Yes of course vegetables and fruits are most interesting but it must be clear from all the comments that such gardening is being donte by the minority.
What would be wrong with a series of programmes for the vegetable gardeners espeially if it is seen as being appropraite for these recessionary times?
I could go on....as its raining outside!!

Bumping this thread for all comments/discussions about the new garden, Greenacre. Phyll
"phyll" I can understand you trying to rationalise similar threads but when you "combine" could you please make it a little less ambiguous because there are as I am sure you understand a few permutations for the less than "computer friendly".
Suggest a thread link to your transferred thread and messages.
Particularly annoying because i was replying to the thread of "marcia" which the web would not accept several times and now cannot find it at all!!.
Very confusing and also the thread title needs to be as clear and as concise as possible.
Best regards phyll you are are doing a great job in pursuit of a thankless task!!
This is my comment on "marcia's" post on the closed thread!!
Good reading marcia. Like with most things some pluses and some minuses IMHO.
One positive aspect for the new location, and the intent as inferred from Toby,s article is that there will be a stronger emphasis on vegetables and that the scale of the projects will be a bit more attuned to the "normal" gardener/viewer.
As with all gardeners an air of optimism is essential and hope that the new GW format will resurrect the interest, allegiance and confidence of the majority of their audience.
Good luck to all
ps I see no sign of a big pond-now I wonder why that is!! Ìý

Hi Welshcol. Fair comment. Here's a list of other related threads on the subject of the new garden, some of which have been closed, in order to avoid duplication, and rationalise the discussion into one lively thread. But you might want to read these comments:

Thanks for that phyll although the thread I was replying to ie "New site for GW" authored by marcia is not included.
Do you not bring the comments across into the amalgamated thread as well? because otherwise they just sit there on a closed thread doing nothing and you cannot of course "reply" if there was a particular item of interest or if you wanted to generate a reply.
Really liked the plan of the new garden in April's GW magazine - looks interesting

The new Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú trailer for the show is appalling ( ) nothing but vomit inducing camera work, possibly the most irritating music in the universe, that trendy grow your own vibe and idiotic phrases such as "Growing plants is in our DNA". I do hope there is going to be more to the new series than just veggies and catering for the latest fads.
I can't say it has inspired me to tune in
Funny how we're all different
I read Orange Blossom's post and tuned into the trailer......I thought it was great
Very infectious and left me really excited about tuning in to the new programme.
Well done Toby and the Beeb
P.S. Orange Blossom - have you changed your name?
It is unfamiliar to me but you seem to have been posting for years according to your record
Anyway....enjoy GW when it begins

Spot on orange blossom - its awful - is this what we all have to look forward to? The so called trendy camera work makes you feel sick - all that wandering about. Couldn't we just have an old fashioned gardening program? Perhaps I'm just getting grumpy in my old age!
As for creating this new garden from a large green field - how many of us can do this? Not sure that I will be tuning in either.
Yet another playing field bites the dust, just to make TV programmes. No wonder obesity is a serious issue.

Yes thank you sensibleSparkles (U13862206) I've just left a very difficult relationship and my ex has been following me around the internet, I was trying to remain annonymous, as this is one of the few places I can come and relax and not be controled by him.
Cheers
They are also featuring a couple with an existing overgrown garden and lots of people inherit one of those
I can't wait - Toby reminds me of a youthful Geoff Hamilton in his style and delivery
WHat sort of programme do you want? NOthing pleases some people. Geoff Hamilton started with a greenfield. Percy Thrower's garden started as a greenfield. Berryfields was a garden that needed renovating a bit. Alan Titchmarsh developed ne areas of his garden to keep the interest up.
Oh Bless
Sorry if I caused any offence - good for you for taking control of your life
Soon it will be a whole new series of GW and I can't wait ( especially for the fallout on these boards!!)
Hmmmmmmm! Hello again Auricula. I do wonder why you keep going through the pain of pre-mod but look forward to your views on TB and the new GW garden, given your history of pithy, and funny, comments about Monty.

Hi folks. I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the new garden this week. It's full of promise and the production team are all very excited about the new season. Don't want to give too much away, but there's lots of scope at Greenacre for practical gardening from scratch, and there will also be gardening from more established locations too - but all will be revealed in next week's show. Toby talks a little more about the new garden in his blog. Just posting the link in case you haven't seen it:
