as you may be aware, we can't discuss reasons for moderation of posts here on the boards
I'm sorry Phyll, but you make this sound as if it is entirely acceptable behaviour, whereas 99% of Members would probably disagree with the current policy. The recent decisions are at best arbitrary, and at worst entirely whimsical and nonsensical. I would have thought that persistent offenders (as I now seem to be) would be worthy of a public rebuke by the Mods, when everyone would then be able to understand just what the crime actually was. Currently, posters seem to be at the mercy of persons unknown, and the Mods are acting as if they have the power and wisdom of Gods who must never be questioned. The Mods never seem to bother with those people who are clearly being disruptive, and have lengthy sequences of gobbledygook which go unpunished. However, when anyone has the temerity to try and bring forthright and honest opinions to the board, they are quickly culled. The performance of the Mods on this Board is something that could merit scrutiny by someone more sensible up the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú tree. Come out and face up to your critics.

Well said Ken and I think a lot of members would like an explaination of how the resident troll can still be allowed to join with a lot more than 50 different ID's over the last 2 years and the moderators still can't spot him. smiley - erm

Perhaps we should have an open and adult discussion about why the hosts/mods are allowing allotmintgrow and growyouronw to post at the same time with the same id number.
Surely that can't be that difficult to spot?

Yes hosts. It's getting farcical and making you look pretty incompetent. As for hosts not being able to tell mods what to do what's that bit in hidden posts about mods referring content to hosts for a decision? BS?

To reiterate what has been posted on another thread:
When someone hits the complaint button, moderators will investigate and make a call on whether the message should be permanently hidden/modded - the hosts are consulted where necessary and appropriate.
As previously explained we do not discuss the reasons for moderation on the boards.
Here's a reminder of the house rules, explaining that messages can be failed for these reasons:

"If they are considered likely to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others
Are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable
Contain swear words or other language likely to offend
Break the law or condone or encourage unlawful activity. This includes breach of copyright, defamation and contempt of court.
Advertise products or services for profit or gain
Are seen to impersonate someone else
Include contact details such as phone numbers, postal or email addresses
Are written in anything other than English - Welsh and Gaelic may be used where marked
Contain links to other websites which break our Editorial Guidelines
Describe or encourage activities which could endanger the safety or well-being of others
Are considered to be ‘spam’, that is posts containing the same. or similar, message posted multiple times
Are considered to be off-topic for the particular message board
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú welcomes feedback, both positive and negative, about our programmes and services but please make sure your comments are in line with the above House Rules. Repeatedly posting personal or offensive comments about individual members of the public or people who work for the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú may be considered harassment. We reserve the right to remove such messages and take action against those responsible."

Re. persistent trolls, it's been explained before that some people are very good at exploiting technology and causing mischief. Hence the moniker 'troll'. The moderation teams do their best to prevent persistent offenders, but please appreciate that they look after many Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú boards, not just this one.

Thanks for your understanding smiley - smiley Phyll

Thanks for the comment Phyll - but again we all know the house rules so you quoting them doesn't really help matters. As for you saying the resident troll is 'very good at exploiting technology and causing mischief' I can't see that he's exploiting anything, he just re-applys here and is let back in every time!

He has been banned from 3 other forums that I use and never returned - I have banned him from 2 of the forums. How come the mods here can't do it too?

It would have been easier to just tell me why the posting was modded, but this would require a departure from the standard monotonous defence of reciting the 'house rules' over and over again. I was initially concerned about my own reputation, but it's nothing like as tarnished as those of the overseers of this board. I would again suggest that there simply is no valid reason for withdrawing these postings, and that the reason for the ongoing reticence, is that there is no explanation that would stand up to analysis - other than that someone continues to pander to a few misguided souls.

I'm sorry Phyll but your comments don't stack up.

There was a poster of not so long ago that repeatedly posted the same question time after time, and every time I complained it was rejected. It was a blatant abuse of the "spam" rule but was deemed by the gHOSTS to not be a problem, even though said poster was frequently inflammatory, personal and rude.

Any regular contributor of these boards has been thoroughly fed up with the uselessness of the moderators and procedures in place to deal with disruptive posters and also the complete lack of community spirit which was well in evidence 2 years ago.

I hate to get personal - but the 2 weeks without Phyll a little while ago was almost like the good ol' days before being treated like naughty children. When the gardening boards were fun and vaguely conversing (not just Q&Aing) about gardening.

Phyll, I thought your reply was rather patronising - and every possible assistance otehr than actual help. I mean, it's not as if the rules are hard to find, just 3 inches to the right of my posting as I type.
And as for how difficult it is to spot a troll, how come we all know who it is, and can give you the ID to check, but you can't seem to find him or her, or, if you do know who it is, seem incapable of taking appropriate action. This particular troll has caused so much trouble over the years that I find it incredible that the mods haven't done a little investigating and banned him / her.
And yet you can find the time to lecture us when we make a quite legitimate criticism of one of your Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú colleagues presenting on GW because you think she might be offended. I think we deserve a better explanation than what we have had so far, but I suspect we won't get one.
