The day the Dig In website launched I went on and was able to order the free seeds. I told my parents who went on to the website on Monday and they said that you could not order your seeds the April 11th.
My order went through ok... or did it? Now I am not sure if my order will be honoured or if I will have to try again. Any ideas?
Hallo there
I'm the person looking after the Dig In site, and I can tell you that your order will have been received, and will be honoured. It's just that we had such a huge response so quickly that we decided to take down the offer until it's featured on Gardeners' World. There's a lot of seed packs available, but it's still a limited amount.
If your parents try again on the 11th, they should be able to order seeds.
Hope that helps!
Ann
Are chocolate seeds available..?
I have bookmarked the site for the 11th.!
Site is duly open and taking requests.
Mine ordered.
I've just ordered mine!
But I was disappointed to see that the Dig In van doesn't seem to visit the South East - Walthamstow is the only place and that's still 100 miles from me.
I thought Kent was the Garden of England - ow about visiting the Kent Garden Show at Detling, Maidstone at the end of May Bank Holiday weekend ?
Hi there,
I have just applied for the digin seed pack through the website link and have recieved an email asking me to reply and give a code that is in the email. Is this really needed for seeds or is it a link to a scam ??
I am so excited about growing my own veg
I am looking forward to next weeks installment (woop) I am going to swat up on what I need, so as soon as the seed pack hits my mat, Im ready, all gloved up and trowel at the ready ! Now I have a pokey little garden, and have to decide what Id put in where Whilst also raiding the piggy bank.
Grobag - Cant see that it would be a scam IMO. I replied with a simple thank you
Thanks Ann I'm looking forward to my seeds arriving so I can get them planted and share some with my friend who lucky enough to have acquired half an allotment recently!
Hi all
To our amazement, the Dig In seeds available via the website went over the Easter weekend - the page went up on Friday and we'd shifted our entire stocks by Monday (we're actually having to get some more to honour all of the applications we received). So the only way to get the free seeds now is to visit the Dig In van on tour. Details of where it's visiting are at .
Of course, anyone can still join in growing their own by buying a set of the seeds themselves - they were chosen to be cheap, widely available and easy to grow. There'll be advice and help available through the Dig In website and newsletter, and the booklet that was sent out with the seed packs is available to download at .
Sorry that the van isn't visiting anywhere southeast of Walthamstow - I'm a Kentish lass myself, so I do sympathise. One of the reasons is that the tour is limited by the places that have Big Screens, and there aren't any southeast of Walthamstow. Hope it helps to have an explanation at any rate.
Yours
Dig In Ann
Hi there Growbag
That sounds like the message you get if you subscribe to the Dig In newsletter - did you perhaps do that at the same time?
If so, don't worry, it's just a check to make sure our newsletter system isn't being sent spam.
Hope that helps.

Mmmmm , and if you live anywhere remotly north - i.e. scotland , you can whistle in the wind
And if you are over the age of 10, forget it.
I followed the link to the advice animations and was wafted back to my pre-school. I've never felt so patronised in my life. Just who do the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú think we are?
And what are they talking about "Carrots are difficult to grow in the ground so sow them in a pot".
So are you saying we've all wastred time and effort applying beforehand, and then again after the new date was announced?
Nothing personal, but this is a huge cock-up, isn't it?
I have no intention of chasing a van to get the seeds I was offered

I ordered my seeds online - so I hope I get them. The only concern I had at the time was the message saying 28 days delivery. If that holds true, it'll be too late to be planting tomatoes for this year I would have thought? Ok so they can be used next year and the lettuces can be used as baby leaf salad. Primarily I wanted to give the butternut squash a go, as it's my favourite veg.
Bit disappointed that the vans not coming to the north....we garden here too. Never mind my lettuce and wild rocket have germinated and I'm so loving the birds on my new bird feeder!!!

The Dig In van is also not coming to Northern Ireland. We do have a big screen here in Belfast DiginAnn but perhaps so much has been spent on GW's new "folly" in birmingham that you haven't enough left to pay the ferry!
Hi Nooj,
I believe Ann said that all applications that were received would be honoured, so if you applied there shouldn't be any need to chase the van
As for other posters comments about the childish design of the website; rather than patronising existing veg growers, I think the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ús aim with the Dig In campaign is to encourage people with little gardening experience or who've never grown veg before to pick up a trowel, perhaps people who may be put off by the idea that gardening is boring and stuffy, and would be detered by a serious guide to planting. I've noticed that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú have included links to other websites (e.g. RHS) so if people don't like the way the information has been presented, the option is there to go to another site.
Thanks little'un
Has anyone at all actually received any yet?
I might go see the Dig In van (think it is coming to Leeds in August?) What's going on apart from the giving away of seeds?
Hi Ann
Just to let you know there is a big screen in Liverpool city centre supplied by the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and theres also one in Manchester.
Any chance of you coming north???
Has anyone had the seeds through yet? i'm waiting on them and want to get everything going asap anyone know when they are expected? did them last week while the show was on.
thanks
p.s. GW rules!!

*bump*
Has anyone got seeds yet? I haven't.
Not yet, only been a week and a half.
Plenty of time before next year to sow them.
Breaking news:
just been advised by a pal that she has received hers, and that the site was accepting requests several days before GW went out.
I applied before Easter, so I hope that means I get some, or does that mean I won't?.
I recently approached a gleaming white ice cream van on a 09 plate in Brum with my petrolhead mate Max Moseley.
Max, as usual asked for a Mr Whippy, whilst I rather fancied a raspberry spliff (it was Brum after all).
Imagine our annoyance when instead of receiving some welcome iced relief - An exasberating Oath with a big mouth thrust some god forsaken packets of seeds in our hands!
At least Max (unlike me) can sow his Butternut Squash this year....in September.... in his Cape Town garden.
Harry
I'm still waiting.
Anyone else received their's yet?
I have heard from others on different Gardening forums they are slowly receiving them, and have also heard the are out of seed but re-ordering to full-fill all requests.
Not got mine yet if that makes you feel any better.
(as an aside I just misspelled heard as beard, now that would have been a totally different reply altogether.)
Mine have just arrived.
Thanks DIGIN
And I seem to have time for all to be sown - just!

Heavens to Betsy! I've just been out in my 'greenhouse' which is just a lean-to on the side of the house which has the washing machine & tumble drier in, and my two Sungold tomato plants are already sporting their first tiny lot of flower buds! And it's not even May! I really must put them in their final big pots! My other varieties I planted as seed in paper pots in March (germinated on a windowsill), have been potted on and are now requiring to be in their big pots too..
So as and when my DigIn seeds arrive they'll definitely be for next year. But it does show how late the DigIn seeds are as regards planting in my neck of the woods (East Anglia)
Sorry Wafflycat, my seeds arrived today, I applied day before the show went out.
I have heard from others on other gardening website that they are getting packages addressed to other people sent to them.

In that case, seacrrot, I'm going to drown my sorrows alone.. now where did that bottle of merlot go to?
I've also heard of folk having the seed arrive through the post to find it's the correct address but the wrong name..
If someone has got mine... I hope their butternut squash doesn't germinate! I *particularly* wanted to give that a go..
*sound of cork popping from bottle of wine*
Sorry to hear your seeds haven't arrived yet wafflycat, but please can I heed you not to turn to the bottle! I drowned my sorrows last night (for a different reason than absence of seeds) and I am now suffering the consequences and have a banging headache!
Although I think your choice of Merlot is alot wiser than my Chardonny; white wine always seems to do this to me
Hope your seeds arrive soon!

Oh Little Helen.. I am now past the Merlot and on something deliciously fruity and white fermented juice of grape..
*hic*
My rapid slide into a haze of alcohol-infused sorrow is all the fault of DigIn.. no butternut squash seeds..
*sob*
*weep*
*wail*
*sloshes back more wine*
Well, I applied for seeds for myself and also for my mother, doing two separate applications, with two email and actual addresses. My mother has got her seeds, but I haven't got mine.
Harry, I do share your sense of disappointment. If I am driving and see a white van I always suffer a shiver of anticipation, expecting at least to be yelled at by some loutish sort in the van.
To have some happy larry handing out seeds, instead of cutting one up on the inside lane is really no good use for a white van.

The morning post has arrived..
.. no seeds..
.. once more I plod through the boggy acres of despair that surround...
.. and go off to check the rapidly depleting wine store..
*hic*
*weep*
*wail*

Shush a shaame the sheeds havent got here yet.
*hic*
I still haven't got mine. I wondered if they were prioritising beginners?
I don't mind them being late, I'm always sowing elderly seeds anyway, and mine have already been sown for this year. I was just hoping to cut costs for next year, as they are getting so expensive and so few to a packet.

I am a beginner and I haven't got mine!
*sob*
Mine haven't arrived yet - perhaps a group hug would help?
Not allowed goup hugs because of swine flu
Just received my seeds!
It's in Manchester Exchange Square Fri/Sat this w/end.
Not allowed goup hugs because of swine fluÂ
Do you think I may be more susceptible to swine flu Auntie Nooj?
My seeds haven't come either
Do you think I may be more susceptible to swine flu Auntie Nooj?Â
Its not swine flu anymore its A1M1 sub section G strain 24A (I made that up!!) didn't know flu strains came from the EEC politicians but on the plus side your OK for a group hug you just run the risk of catching adictive gardeneritus or GarenersWorld aversion syndrome which is very, very contagious
I think someone at Auntie Beeb must think that sending seeds to my bit of the world is a swine 'flu risk as once again the postie has been and there's no sign of DigIn seeds.
Looking at this more seriously, I think it has been one big c***-up as I signed up, order was accepted and no seeds have appeared. So quite frankly, I doubt I'm going to get mine. And as Auntie Beeb said that all those orders received before the cut-off would be honoured, I'm of the opinion this is looking less and less likely to happen. Certainly it's now too late to be sowing tomato seeds but I really did want to try out butternut squash. I've searched the shops for seeds of the same variety (as they are bred for UK climate), and there are none to be had in my neck of the woods. And it would seem I'm not the only one who has not received the promised seeds.
Not good.
Hallo there
Ann, producer of the Dig In website here.
The seeds are still being sent out and every application we received will be honoured, most within the 28 days stated. Because we got so many applications so quickly, one of the largest responses to any Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú campaign, we have had to have more seed packets printed.
This means some people will have to wait longer for their seeds. If you're one of them, you'll get an email letting you know - sorry about the delay if that's the case, but it's better than not getting anything, surely?
It is late to be sowing tomatoes yes, but still worth a go for the next week - your crop will be less (depending on what weather we get obviously), but you'll still get something. Squash - you'll be fine, loads of time to get it started yet.
Hope this helps
Ann
I've just gone out and bought myself a couple of butternut squash seedlings to pot-on. What's the odds my seeds arrive tomorrow?
Never mind Wafflycat, you can always save them for next year (except the carrots).
I haven't had mine yet either.
