I would just like to say that it is good to see the GW team having fun in the garden / shed ! Gardening is for all who want to get involved, not just the RHS elite. I had my doubts about Toby coming in but i now think he is great, especially when he has jovial banter with the rest of the team. Alys is now a full member of the team and about time too, she is a refreshing addition to the programme. I have always liked Joe's straight to the point simple talking and CKs enthusiasm. The only niggle i have is with some of the camera work/editing ?, someone seems to be playing with too many buttons on their new toy, please give them a steady cam or tripod and suggest not to press on the zoom button too much, the rapid succession of shots is a bit annoying too but at least the focus is under better control now. As to all the other wingers moaning on the message board please remember we are now in the 21st century and as much as i loved Geoff Hamilton and Alan Titchmarsh's gardens we do need to have a new one now and then, so what if they had to get professional builders in to start it off, these presenters/gardeners are busy people and could not have got the series running in time for this season without some serious help. I am sure the advice in the rest of the series will be more helpful to some than others but it's difficult to avoid going over old ground with the wide ranging targeted audience. I am sure we will see some double digging when appropriate .Why not show a quick expensive idea ! Alys/Toby have got some great money saving ideas too for the more patient amongst us. Anyway GW is more of a must see programme and i hope they keep the 1 hour format going.

this is surely a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú employee or something similar speaking - I CANNOT BELIEVE anyone interested in gardening could have these positive views about this dire programme!
I am really cross about how GW has turned out this year - I have loved the programme for years and am really sad about its demise. Now it's just a SHOW and no longer a programme at all.

As soon as the viewing figures dip below £2 million maybe the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will listen to it's customers. Maybe they couldn't afford a proper presenter like Chris Beardshaw??

    theoldgitat59 well said !

quitedutchbrit why don't you stop watching GW for a few weeks, it's obviously winding you up.
Who knows, in that time it may improve to an acceptable and informative format.

Hmmmmm. On which of the many threads ought one to post?

I watched in amazement at the gnomes thing. I knew, I just knew that there would be an army of posters who would feel duty bound to post in protest.

    I was right!

Did I enjoy that section? I did not. Did it mean that the whole programme was rubbish? It did not!

The new magazine format is very different from the old GW. It will take some getting used to (as it were).

The jury is probably out. Overall - I was entertained, even if I did find CBeebies (or however you spell it) annoying. And those damn' gnomes! 'Nuff said.

But - I have been gardening for over 30 years. If I was less experienced - would I have enjoyed it? Would I have been entertained? Would I have learnt something?

I think, on balance, the answer to that is "yes". But I don't think it did the pacemakers of the experienced gardeners much good smiley - laugh

In an attempt to update the programme, it may have (nearly) thrown the baby out with the bath water. But I still think that Toby connects with the general public - and that there is still potential with the series as a whole.

For my money, I could do without the Alys mix-up on foxglove seedlings and the inablity to get a plant out of a pot, however!

No, i am not an employee of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú just a ordinary license payer and i am sorry that you just have a negative out look or cannot embrace change, maybe you should go down to the shed on a Friday night (prick out and pot up or something) and avoid things that annoy you and then maybe you could also stop posting pointless bleating messages.
I for one would prefer the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to spend our money on opening up a diverse subject to a wider audience. Of course the Gnomes were not to everyones taste but at least it was well presented -ligthen up, please ! life is too serious and too short ! try smiling, it helps oxygenate the brain. We all like a bit of fresh air now and then , don't we ?

Change for the sake of change? Why?

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú loved telling us all about the perfection of 'new' Labour with Tony as it's messiah. That turned out well!

    Oldgit,

Just because someone has a different point of view to you is no reason to be rude. This is a discussion board, and to have a valid discussion more than one point of view is needed.

Perhaps you need to chill a bit yourself, and just agree to disagree rather than resorting to insults?

We all share a common passion for gardening after all smiley - biggrin

Well, I'm under 30 with no gardening qualification and lots of learning still to do, and I'm finding it going downhill rapidly.

If neither the experienced gardeners nor the enthusiastic amateur like myself like the show, just who is it aimed at? I'm finding I learn nothing new from the show anymore. I watched the old repeats on UKTV Gardens instead and learn a lot each episode.

Maybe because figures were reducing and that Monty was poorly and a new presenter and format was needed.

We all need change or we would end up watching Black & white head shots of someone telling you how to plant a petunia without one there!
