When will the 麻豆官网首页入口 start to listen to its faithful audience rather than trying to appeal to everyone?
The programme was a combined mixture of Top Gear, The Apprentice, Blue Peter and going live. What will be next, viewers phone in to save their favourite plants or maybe they could have a few minutes of out-takes at the end of each show!
I am not sure what type of audience they are trying to appeal too but I am 30 (youngish) and thought it was drivel. I grew up on GW watching with my parents and my passion and skills came from that, if I had been watching tonights programme then maybe I would have taken up to drinking on the streets instead!
Please 麻豆官网首页入口 give us our programme back and stop being so patronising!

Absolutely love it Well said you!

Like so many others on these threads, I find the new series of GW irritating in the extreme. But I've been asking myself just what it is amidst all the sillyness in the new format that is really getting me down, and I think the answer is the total lack of inspiration.
In previous series almost everything I saw made me want the same for my own garden, but in the present series there is nothing - absolutely nothing that makes me want to rush outside and get going. Indeed, it almost has the opposite effect. The motivational magic has gone, and I don't think I shall be watching for much longer.

I agreee OP .So yawn inducing , I usually so look forward to GW and get so much from it
green-buddha
I think you have hit the nail on the head ( unlike Alys who had bendy nails ) It is so lacking in any sort of inspiration ., I had no inclination while watching to do anything at all .
It flicked through plants and never even told us what they were , and who cares about anyones gnomes ???

Ghastly, ghastly, ghastly 鈥 from the initial swooping camera shots as Toby shouted the programme menu at us to the final shed banter, by which stage I had truly been driven 鈥渦p the wall鈥! Matthew Wilson鈥檚 tiny segment was a calm, authoratitive oasis in this desert of drivel. We were subjected to several minutes about a garden gnome sanctuary then told by Joe that naff water features were un-cool. Who is he to decide that a half barrel water garden is naff? What message are GW trying to convey? If GW keep derisorily consigning much loved garden features to the "What's not hot" section of their silly wall they will alienate what few viewers are prepared to continue with this rubbish. Some people don鈥檛 have the space or money to afford anything else. I jokingly commented last week that I thought I was watching CBeebies then I GOT CBeebies. Is this an April fool? I鈥檝e watched GW for as long as I can remember but it really has sunk to an all time low. I鈥檓 not sure how much more I can stand. Thank goodness for Beechgrove.

I have just popped into this site to see if viewers were saying what I have been thinking for a few weeks. The new presenter is pants, and the new program is like a cross between top gear spring watch and and few children's programs for good measure. What a load of drivel the time waisted about gnomes. They had better shake their ideas up or I will not watch much longer.

It just goes to show you can't please everyone! I have just joined the GW community online for the specific aim of sharing my utter joy at the new format for GW on Friday evenings. At last we are getting practical tips on a range of issues and good, clear instructions on 'how to....' in stead of half an hour with Mrs So snd so's national collection of pansies. I stopped watching last season because of the generalised ' in-filling' but am truly delighted with the well-balanced and informative editing the year. That's one satisfied viewer!

I seem to be in a minority but I found this season's GW a relief. I enjoyed the useful practical nature of the presentation. Last season I got so tired of seeing Mrs So and So's Pansy collection. Each to their own I suppose.

A message from Holland. I have been watching GW for more than twenty years now. Unfortunately the program has changed into a superficial and childish program.
I feel sorry that after so many years I have to stop watching the program.

You must be the spouse (or relative) of someone connected with G'sW, Flossie!

Hi all. I've been a GW fan for 30 years and have now finally given up. There is no inspiration for me. The gnomes item was naff, and what was the point in the piece about the contestants for garden training? When our licence runs out in August that's it, no more tv. I won't miss any of it. I get what I need from the various message boards available, magazines( no not GW one either) and from talking to like-minded people.
Very disappointed. Yes turn out the lights please.

I loved the show too. The presentation was great. Toby is a breath of fresh air (although I also loved Monty, Alan and Geoff).
There was some useful info and some interesting items.
Having read some of these posts recently and noted the negative comments I watched last night specifically looking for things that folk could complain about, and found...absolutely nothing. Perhaps I am easily pleased, but whatever the reason I'm certainly a lot happier that most of you!

While I'd agree with some elements of what's been said, but I think the general opinion is over the top.
Yes, the amount of information given out is less 'specialised', and some of the segments are wearing thin already just a few weeks in, the 'sofashed' etc, but I do understand the benefit of being more populist.
What I do still love about the programme is the passion and joy it epouses for ALL. Long may that shine through. The point is the presenters are still as knowledgable as they ever were, and that's what most people want to gain from.
However all these new segments appear to me to be the brainchild of some new directors/producers who want to make their mark, even if they have no apparent love or understanding of gardening.
so ok 麻豆官网首页入口 you've tried to mix it up a bit, but the overall New programme isn't really working yet. Don't forget the tried and tested elements which satisfied generations - fantastic 'lucious' photography, vital information on the straps, and informed passionate comment from trusted, respected gardeners. ;-/

I loved it - apart from the gnomes
Link to this forum: Will the the last person to watch please turn out the shed light after them!
Totally agree. Watched GW since a teenager in the 70s. 麻豆官网首页入口 seem to think that the audience are all novices and need to be told endlessly how to sow seeds. And its not a kiddies's programme either. Keep the cute kid on C麻豆官网首页入口 please. I have neither small kids nor gnomes in my garden and never shall! Please 麻豆官网首页入口 get back to real gardeners, plants and gardens. And above all try to be a bit inspiring! Its really is very, very poor! And what was wrong with Berryfields anyway?
Link to this forum: Will the the last person to watch please turn out the shed light after them!
Well I watched the last half hour(will try 'catchup' in a mo. Found Alice's tips on growing seeds in a foil thingy useful. Thought the little girl, although I agree with starting childrens' interest early, a bit too 'Dotty' from Eastenders- or maybe it was the way the presenters talked down to her! Hate the hot & not spot - Gnome Man - waste of 3 mins!
They have such an opportunity with this new garden - keep to that & ditch the rest!

I'm sure you good people give your new plants and flowers a chance to flourish and bloom before judging them, you could try giving the same consideration to the new GW format and give it a chance.

Didn't know which thread to post on, but I decided this had the best title!
Although Bluedoyenne's summed the programme up succinctly.
As it's Saturday I've been thinking about football. If a team isn't playing well together the manager changes it. If the performance doesn't improve from week on week the manager gets the sack. It's worked with Gus Hiddink and Scolari.
It's always seemed a little harsh before but are the 麻豆官网首页入口 going to run GW into the ground before acting?
Maybe they could bring in gardening's answer to Alan Shearer -someone popular, talented and with a proven record - just to finish the season while they choose the right person for the job.

LOL! Having just watched the programme I was just deciding which to post on as well!
Positive first. I enjoyed Joe's design bit and thought the tip of taking a photo and then tracing on top of it was really helpful. OK some of the advice about measuring stuff was a bit basic but you've got to start somewhere.
As for the rest... well it has all been said hasn't it. And here is a quote that sums up my feelings about Toby the soil Tickler...
"Away you scullion! You rampallion, you fustilarian! I'll tickle your catastrophe." Shakespeare, Henry IV, Part 2
Link to this forum: Will the the last person to watch please turn out the shed light after them!
I was listening out for "tickling" and it wasn't said although there was definitely some tickling being done with the fork before he got to it and planted those climbers after the long preamble.
The words of the night were "cracker" and "cracking", have you planted yer crackers yet?
Link to this forum: Will the the last person to watch please turn out the shed light after them!
Why is Toby so out of breath?
Why does Alys wear a tea towel round her neck?
Why do we want to see gnomes?
Why is everything in this programme a distraction instead of attraction and information?
Why do I watch it?
Because where there's some life left, there's hope.
PLEASE, PRODUCERS, SLOW THINGS DOWN, DON'T DUMB DOWN!

THIS GARDEN IS STILL TO NEW TO SAY, GIVE THEM A CHANCE AS I THINK THESE LOT WILL DO A GOOD JOB OF IT IN TIME I DO LIKE THE GIRLS THERE VERY CLEVER LOT THE TWO (ALICE AND CAROL) BUT I MISS MONTY DON A LOT? WILL WE EVER SEE THE LIKES OF MONTY EVER AGAIN ON THE 麻豆官网首页入口 ?

I agree with the comments about last nights show, joe's design section was useful, mathew wilson was great but the rest of the progamme was a waste of time. Why do we have to watch carol choosing who is going to be on her course? Surely one lesson on sowing seeds is enough? Its a shame that the format of the programme has been dumbed down so much that it is now not worth watching. Friday nights will never be the same again!

Thanks for reading my message. I am not related to anyone romotely green-fingered or on the 麻豆官网首页入口. Clearly there is a strength of feeling due to the range of experience in the GW audience. I DO want to be shown how to take cuttings, transplant, etc but that skill is clearly second-nature to many others. Perhaps GW could spend part of the programme aiming at those branching out in the garden and the remainder focusing on the more seasoned growers. All puns intended.

You and I need to sit in a darkened room until we come to our senses! I can't believe the anger and dismay of all these people. I only joined the message board this weekend 'cos I was so pleased with the new format. Oh well.....

Don't take any notice of the "old guard" on these boards. They pine for the days when they could be chastised ( if they were not 100% organic) patronised ( if they dared to think outside the box ) talked down to ( if they didn't have hundreds tof pounds to spend on obelisks )and lectured by someone who wasn't even a qualified gardener!!!
I expect it reminded them of their nannies / school matron.
The new programme is 100% better - and more entertaining to boot

I am far from old guard and always open to change and I hate the new programme.
Its frivulous , silly and far from informative . I was bored by it

Sensiblesparkles (misnomer) has been posting on these boards under various identities since before I joined. So one of the old guard herself.

Hello Sparkles & Flossie. I'm older than most of you (probably!) but,I hope, not Old Guard. If you care to read my posts about the new format, you'll see that I'm not totally dismissive about the programme as a whole. I've said before, and will say again, that I fully realise that it's not possible to please all of the people all of the time. Like some posters, I too have been watching since the Percy Thrower days and realise that things move on.
However, there are several aspects of the new programme which I don't find interesting, informative or even entertaining but that won't stop me from watching future editions. It's clear many viewers feel that the whole thing has been "dumbed down" somewhat, and often doesn't provide help and detailed information/instructions for younger gardeners, which the older generation wouldn't mind seeing for the umpteenth time if they felt it contributed to making a good gardening show for everyone. Cheers! Ma.

What a rational, well reasoned post Ma, if only others were as thoughtful.
I agree that the programme has been dumbed down somewhat, but let's give it a fair crack of the whip and let those who want to live in the past, languish in front of their videos/dvds

Hello! I seem to be now in Sensible's gang - that person does not speak for me - nor do I agree with their rather dismissive manner. I would like to think that GW could deliver a well-balanced programme which caters for and pleases the experienced and beginner gardeners. Clearly this is an almost impossible task. Perhaps the producers could lock us all in a hotel (The Dorchester?) until we find a solution. But not this month, please because there is too much to do in the garden!!
Good wished to all gardeners. x

Quote "It's always seemed a little harsh before but are the 麻豆官网首页入口 going to run GW into the ground before acting?"
Isn't that what happened to viewing figures over the last few years going down to as low as 1.8m surely this series start at 2.13m is a sign of possible good things a head.

I can't help but feel that the above statement is a bit contradictory. You appear to accept that the programme has 'dumbed', but think that this is really the way to go in future, and that those who prefer a bit more intelligence with their gardening should look at their old collections. I have a good sense of humour (honestly), and like to garden with a smile. What I do object to, is the silliness at every turn in the new format, the 'edgy' substandard camerawork, and the limp dialogue between the presenters. The content so far has also been dire, but this of course is something which could change in the space of a week. I try to remember that the one thing which we all have in common, is our love of gardening. This is why I try awful hard not to offend fellow-posters (though I have no difficulty in having a strong opposing view), and why I think the suggestion to have a 'grown up' gardening programme for old po-faces like myself is a good idea. Goodness knows, there's plenty of room in the schedules for another programme, and it could be done for a fraction of what this new bilge is costing. There's also no shortage of respected gardeners who could take the helm, and give us the televised version of a good gardening book.
