Has anyone got an Amelanchier Obelisk as seen in the 22nd April episode of Beechgrove? I fancy having one in my front garden - I'm down on the south coast and it can get windy at times so I'm wondering whether it will cope. All the websites I've visited have said it's fully hardy and the only requirement seems to be that it needs a lot of water. I have only been able to find photos of it in flower, has anyone got a picture of it in autumn colour?
Here's hoping!
Why not send your query to the advice helpdesk on the Beechgrove website as perhaps they can locate a photo for you?
Sorry, can't be of more help.

Thanks Blue, it's a good idea - I'll try it.
I have several Amelanchior but don't know if they're Obelisk - It gets very windy and very cold here as it does up at Beechgrove Garden too - indeed they have it colder for longer there. I'll have a look and see what my Amelanchior are.
I’ve been watching the Beechgrove for years and they often mention how exposed and windy the site is. Also a bit colder in Aberdeen than where you are so Amelanchier Obelisk should grow for you. Beechgrove also have a web site and are good at offering advice if you contact them.
Thanks veryone - I think I'll put it on my shopping list.
Sorry that should read 'everyone'
Beechgrove have helped me in the past with questions so I agree - send them a question and they'll probably get back to you with an answer and also a photo.
Hi I've just bought an amelanchier obelisk, too. I've check the label and there's not very much information about how hardy or not it is. Only says that it likes sun, can be pruned, flowers in April/May and is middling-speed growing.
Sorry I haven't got more information, but I was dead chuffed to watch Beechgrove and they mentioned something I'd just bought!

Needless to say - I'm looking forward to tonight's episode!
