Can anyone tell me if I can put other plants in my tub with a clematis montana. The tub is very big and the new plant looks lost in it. Also which herbs do you NOT put together in one tub.
Any advice on perfumed climbers to grow over an arbour which has lots of light but not a lot of sun. Thanks in anticipation.

Once your Montana gets going there will be no room for anything else and it may soon outgrow its tub.

You could sow some annuals this year to fill in the gaps -petunias, lobelia, alyssum, nasturtiums -whatever takes your fancy.

As for herbs, I keep perennials (the tough and woody ones) separate from annuals.

If you want the former, rosemary, bay and thyme work well together as they like the same conditions.

Chives, parsley, chervil and basil go together for me. Just avoid mint or marjoram as they have thuggish tendencies and are best kept to their own pots.
