  While we should wait to give the new format a chance,why weren`t viewers given the opportunity to decide who the main presenter should be?After all we pay our the licence fee and therefore should have some input.

  Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I'm afraid I never expected the haughty powers-that-be in the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to go that for.
  
  For me, they could have taken anyone at all - a complete unknown to television. The only requirement being that (s)he had to have good horticultural knowledge and above all a deep love of everything to do with making plants grow and making a garden. Some personal charisma would be a plus. That said, I would not have said that the late, great, Geoff Hamilton had charisma but he did have the other requirements by the bucket load and that is what kept me enthralled year in and year out with what he did in his garden(s).

  Don't know why I bothered to write the reply above as everyone knows that when MD left the new lead presenter was already present in GW. The wonderful Carol Klein should have got the job - she is everything that Buckland isn't - knowledgeable, passionate about plants and all things related to growing them and she has charisma to boot.
  
  For info - Buckland worked as a researcher for Carol Klein on one of her programmes. And another little known fact - Carol Klein has won 6 golds from Chelsea! In my eyes that is some achievement but for some reason no one ever mentions it, whereas the Buckland blurb is constantly going on about his one gold medal.
  
  In my opinion, Buckland will not last long in his current role and hopefully the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will then give the job to CK.

  I'm currently catching up with last week's GW, and felt the urge to add my comments to the ones already logged. I agree with the last person re Carol, and I too feel a bit insulted with the dumbed-down chit-chat at the end of the programs. Would be better to go back to half an hour without the "padding". People watch this program for the gardening content, so please forget the "banter" and get back to the old formula please, IT WORKED!!!
