So what did everyone think of last night's BW?
Even though it was a lovely community initiative, I admit I'm not a fan of the community garden programmes and much prefer the programmes filmed in the BG garden.
I liked it, as it showed a different side to gardening. Nothing like that aorund me, so it was interesting to see a community of all ages come together. I also liked the inserts showing the gardens of the individual 'leading lights' of the town project - their successes and their problems - how they'd solved various problems on their own and the suggestions made by the BG team. Nice to see that kids gardening didn't have to wear fluorescent safety vests too
I liked it as well for much the same reasons as wafflycat.
I'm sure that if a site such as the former rose garden had become neglected in our area the council would have flogged the land for development rather than allow it to be redeveloped by a community project.
The visits to the gardens of the "garden club members" showed what a diverse bunch we gardeners are.
They pack a lot into 30 minutes.

Not of much interest to me this one or last weeks apart from the apple tree section ,but looking forward to next weeks containers and hanging basket advice, and I agree they do pack a lot in for 30 mins.
Like posters 2 and 3, the visits to the private gardens were the best part of the programme for me, well until Jim McColl picked up the accordeon that is! And long may he reign.
In case anyone should think I'm stepping on Amazing's toes - I'm just getting things rolling until she arrives.
Over to you Amazing ....
Bd; step on my toes; never: just don't go near my shoes though!! I love the way so many people have started to watch Beechgrove: I feel we should do as Phil does and start a new thread for each programme;
I enjoyed last nights programme: Good to see the whole community involved:
I normally like Beechgrove, but feel if that was an episode of Gardener's World, everyone would have condemned it!
Like it was mentioned in a previous post, I'd rather see them at Beechgrove.
Thought the programme was a bit "garden-lite".
Garden-lite: What were they doing? Planting plants; talking about plants and visiting 2 or 3 gardens to see what plants they grew: Community gardening was what it was all about:
Just enjoyed it on i-player. The community garden was not what I expected & they still got a lot of advice in. Pleased to see that another gardener enjoys self-seeded plants in cracks/paving.
just finished watching Beechgrove, having finally worked out how to do so I have to say I really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to seeing it every week now I know how to 'tune in'!
Lots of plants, planting, fun and interesting real gardeners, lovely accents, views of Scotland (being a displaced Scot myself ), children and young people gardening enthusiastically but not tokenistically, and nothing trendy in sight... as far as I can recall
Well done Auntie Scotland
Hear hear! Love it!

Like Bluedoyenne I don't care much for this type of programme. I am looking forward to BG being back to 'normal' next week.
Yes, predictably dreary with nothing useful for real gardeners.
PS Couldn't understand a word they said!
och, ye poor wee sassenach
I remembered to tune in about half way through and enjoyed what I saw (except the advice given to a dog owner to dollop tomato ketchup in its food to make it's food acidic, to allegedly neutralise it's pee ).
I shall be tuning in next week nevertheless!
Enjoyed last nights programme, especially with Carol back on the team (I do hope she is not just for the garden makeover programmes), but do prefer the Beechgrove garden format where there is a more cosy atmosphere and they do get through a lot of practical tips and methods especially with regard to the vegetable plot.
Think it should go national......Ìý

Aye you'll get it right one day Welshcol: How's you? I'm fine: some of my keys still not working: namely: n k full stop + comma!
Sat out after work and had a few voddies + cola: Most enjoyable; Garden is in half bloom; Well it is Scotland a few degrees north:

Amazing
JJ.Carter -- if you "couldn't understand a word they said" then how do you know there was nothing useful said?
The community garden shows are not my favourtite part of Beechgrove but this one was OK. I enjoyed the visits to the private gardens and the advice given. I've seen the tomato ketchup idea given elsewhere so assume it's OK.
I like the way the team all work together with no prima donnas or "stars". I like the down to earth, non patronising approach and the sensible nature of the advice given. I like the way there were people of all ages involved last night and think the end result is likely to be good looking as well as useful to the community.

You had just as well spend those Scottish pounds the way the politicians are putting in their expenses they will be not worth a wee dram soooon!!.
ticking over ok the garden is planted up to my poor but hopefully productive standard and the runner beans are 6 inches up the canes.
Did you get a frost last night? heard the forecasters giving early warnings!!.
A bet Jim will be not too happy on Wednesday nice to see Carole back last week

Hello Amazing
Thank you for that information Amazing.Everybody has a very good opinion about the BG and seeing that GW is errr, leaves a lot to be desired,I was hoping to be able to watch it as it seems to cater for gardeners, something badly lacking with todays GW.
I just wish Beechgrove oculd be on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 - the quality of i-player leaves a little to be desired, at least on my laptop
Lionredwood - apply to join TAPS - ? and I'll tell you what you need to know.
Where are the BG prompters??? will have to watch on i-player now!! fingers crossed.
Sorry I was busy;
Oh poo, I forgot to watch it as well and I bet my Freesat box refused to record it again.
It is repeated on Sunday lunchtime tho' so you do have a second chance to see it Welshcol

Just tried i-player & it's not playing yet so off to make identification for Northern borders day out.
Hi Amazing and all - saw BG yesterday but very busy so shall be brief.
The usual ..... bliss.
It lifted my flagging spirits just to hear the theme tune and see the smiling face of Jim McColl - overall impression always 'we're in safe hands here'
Down-to-earth gardening without the gimmicks
Enjoy - got to dash
It is repeated on Sunday lunchtime tho' so you do have a second chance to see it Welshcol Ìý
Many thanks will look forward to it-hate to miss a weekly BG fix.
I hope Chelsea will be enjoyable next week but they had better have their umbrellas ready.
