The implication was that a previously-used icecream van was being recycled. Brownie points gained. So why does it have a YD09 registration plate - surely it must be very new?
Not necessarily.
The previous owner could have taken the van's previous number plate and transferred it to his new vehicle. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú then needed to apply for a new number plate from the DVLA. As far as I am aware "09" signifies the year of the vehicle's registration, not the year of the vehicle's manufacture, although often those two are the same.
Or perhaps it is new. The previous owner invested in a new vehicle but found that he could not meet his lease payments. The brand new van was then auctioned off by the leasing company with the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú being lucky enough to get a brand new van on the cheap.

Not necessarily so. Replacement registration numbers are related to the age of the vehicle. You can't put a '09' plate on an old vehicle just by transferring the number. You can only get a '09' plate on a new vehicle.
Then how do personalised number plates work? HJ 51 HOG costs £685 and can be put on my brand new car.
I've done a bit of research and it appears you cannot make a vehicle appear newer than it is, but you can make it look older. The things you learn on a gardening board, eh?

According to the worlds leading Ice Cream Van manufacturers web site, the Dig In Van is built on the 09 chassis. Now the current run of GW programmes started when and the 09 plate came into force March 09 - me smells a rat somewhere - or is it the old Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú poet licence again. Recycled because its not a new paint job, or it runs on muck.
I see from Trilliums blog that the Dig In van has a good traveling partner at Malvern

Why am I not surprised?
hahahaha!!! oh that is just hilarious! Still, I do enjoy gardening with my little grandson - perhaps CBeebies should have a gardening slot, instead of GW having a CBeebies slot? After all, Blue Peter have been gardening for years... That way all those with little ones who want to get them started early in the joys of gardening would be happy, and so would those who want GW to be less of a preschool offering? More gardening on tv, more happy people?
just a thought
p.s. apologies if CBeebies does already have such a programme - I never watch it myself - I'd rather be in the garden than turn my little grandson into a square-eyed tot
Which mode of transport had the more adult in.
just spotted the gnome who forms the letter (i) in Dig-In... ummm...
they had a decent crowd though!
CBeebies are part of the Dig In campaign. They even have a Dig in song:
The little girl who featured on GW a couple of weeks back is a regular on the Green Balloon Club.

Hello
Having children being involved with gardening is a great thing, they are of course the future. If CBeebies has a program that kids can learn about gardening and blue peter as well all the more better for them to learn.
Just keep them away from gardeners world with their song singing please as the content of the program is dire enough as it is.
Behave, children. No singing. I despair.
Hejhog
Hello TheHejhog
They can sing all they want on their own childrens programs but do we really want children singing on gardeners world? Has it really sunk so low? and anyway they should be in bed when gardeners world is on. For who's benefit would children singing on gardeners world be?
Oh, that explains it... I was obviously confused, I thought the Dig In thing was for grown-ups. I'll go back and have another look in a minute, thanks Hejhog... mind you, I hope I get to see some evidence of actual gardening being done by those cute little mini-popstars
BTW I'm looking forward to tonights Gnomes - oops, sorry - Gardener's World - Carol has a slot on good seasonal plant combinations - that sounds more like it AND chickens as well (although they are rather naughty if they get out among the plants - hope someone mentions that) AND a mention of Chris Beardshaw - perhaps things are looking up, people!
Although, if ever they do have a Gnome's World, I think Toby would be perfect, and I mean that in the nicest possible way; he has a cute little smile and would look so sweet with one of those little gnome hats
The Dig In campaign is for grown-ups and children. I thought that was obvious from the publicity. And since when do children not have a place on Gardener's World? Joe had his children helping out on the allotment last year. We've seen HFW's young ones helping out with fishing and the animals. Why not have a co-ordinated campaign across the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to encourage children and young families into the garden?

Hey Hej
Fine the Dig in campaign is for grown-ups and children but please, please, don't have them on Gardener's World. Some of us don't like them.
I didn't want to see Joe's kids on the allotment, I don't want to see kids on the programme they add nothing to it for me, I avoid them in real life and have no interest in seeing them on TV.
Fine have programmes for family viewing that encourage families into the garden and put them on at a suitable time. Not GW.
I truly despair. As a newish parent I find your attitude towards children deplorable. People like you remind me of the Child Catcher out of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Hejhog
Not the Child Catcher! Baroness Bomburst of Vulgaria is perhaps a better nickname for Carmen...
Hejhog
Oh dear, I don't think this is meant to be quite so serious, folks... better to keep it light and enjoy the fun, laugh at what's funny, etc... I have five wonderful children of my own btw, a grandson and grandchild no. 2 due any day now... I enjoy children hugely, but didn't take offence at Carmen's comment... certainly not worth getting personal about it, surely

I will join you in the valley of despair Hejhog. Why should I like children? Perhaps if more parents were a little less selfish and self absorbed and appreciated that not everyone loves their little darlings - then the children might turn out a bit nicer!
I was flicking through the channels a couple of years ago when I came across Monty doing a pumpkin trail and there where a couple of kids that hold the UK record for the largest pumpkin on the show as well, got me and my kids involved in gardening and a couple of nice pumpkins for Halloween as well.

LOL Grapevinegirl! I was just winding Hej up he obviously enjoys an argument... I still prefer GW was aimed at adults though even the more childish ones of us!
there we go then - it IS possible to have children on the show without toes curling :D I also enjoyed seeing Joe's children on the show...
I guess some of us have more of an issue with CBeebies-style graphics, etc, and juvenile behaviour from the presenters! Oh, and gnomes
phew, Carmen, so glad you weren't serious, I though that perhaps you hadn't realised that hedgehogs can be very prickly if you poke them
Blessed are the peacemakers , even if they do get shot at in the crossfire sometimes!
As for me, I'm a very happy gardener this afternoon - I've discovered that not only is Monty coming back (albeit next spring ), but we have the lovely Matthew coming soon to Channel 4, AND I've worked out how to view Beechgrove on i-player!
Happy happy
Hedgehogs should also be aware that some of us do not want to see families given special treatment all the time as not all of us are lucky enough to be blessed with children. I am pleased that you have a young family, but as someone who doesn't it makes me sad being made to feel that I am not 'normal' unless I have children -sometimes it is nice to have an adult show that isn't over run with 'you must have a happy family with lots of children' messages. Please don't just assume we are all miserable old gits because we aren't keen on kiddies being on the show.
Hello SGW
I like children, but couldn't eat a whole one. Sometimes they stick in my throat.
Thanks Lion and SodTG
Hello SGW
Your welcome .
SodTG
Everybody agrees that children should be involved with gardening, my only concern is who of the GW team would do the face and finger painting, who would paint the easter eggs to hide in the garden and who would have dibbs on the bouncy castle.
Eggsolent.
