Hi Everyone,
I was at the Malvern show last week and was lucky enough to meet Terry Walton on the Gardenersclick stand (Gardenersclick is Terry's website - the one Jeremy Vine mentions after Terry's broadcasts).
Anyway, Terry was such a lovely bloke and it got me thinking. Why is Terry only on the Radio? He'd be excellent on Gardeners World and his experience in growing veg would be fantastic, particularly with the current Dig In campaign going on.
So would anyone else like to see Terry on GW?

Tee hee! Are you Terry's mum?
I need to see a picture of him first before making judgement. Some of us are shallow enough to want a bit of eye candy - sadly lacking in GW at the moment.
Yeah, why not !
here you go..
Heh, I'm not Terry's mum, I'm a bit young and don't have the required parts
I'm not sure I'd class Terry as eye candy either (though i guess it's all a matter of taste).
There are some pictures of him on www.gardenersclick.com and on you can see videos of him here:
He is just genuinely good to listen to and I find him very entertaining.
You can also find Chris Beardshaw on gardenersclick, according to my wife he's more likely to be the eye candy you're looking for.

He looks OK to me! Nice grin and a good head of hair - could do a lot worse on GW. Hmm actually they do.
Your wife's not wrong on the Beardshaw front!
Terry was the main character on the Welsh allotments in the Big Dig. He's lovely - funny, knowledgeable, communicates well and not at all precious about successes or failures or explaining things to less experienced gardeners.
He'd be great on GW.
And his accent is just like my grandad's and uncles', and makes me feel happy.
My welsh rellies all grew veg.
Let's have him on GW please?
Honest, no nonsence gardening
Excellent, I'm glad it's not just me who likes Terry.
Wouldn't a repeat of the Big Dig (at a sensible time) tie in nicely with the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's current 'Dig In' campaign or is that too obvious for the powers-that-be to have noticed?
Humm I didn't see Big Dig so a repeat would be good!

This posting has been hidden during moderation because it broke the in some way.
I'd love to see Terry doing some gardening on telly, not necessarily on GW, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú could manage to air more than one gardening programme a week! We used to get garden makeover programmes by the shed-load, (not that I want those back though!)
Even on the news tonight they were reporting how the sale of veg seeds has rocketed (pardon the pun), seems the powers that be are missing a massive opportunity IMHO.
Terry is great on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio and from this he got the spot on the Big Dig, but then it was cancelled - shame. He would certainly be an asset to GW and in my opinion a better presenter than some on the show already.
By the why, I read post 12 before it was hidden. I could see no offence in this post, just quite a good and witty description of one of the presenters.
Lets not get into the over zealous moderating which plague many message boards on the internet. In this country there is a thing called freedom of speak and unless you accuse or point the finger at a person directly or wrongly people can hopefully have an opinion.
It appears Dai, my post which cast fun at the appearence of one of the presenters was deemed 'out of order' by the moderators. So I have been double whammied for decent, and for the spell of my log in name which was s*dthegardening. Now I didn't know s*d; piece of turf, was swearing.
Must have upset someone on here, who happens to be a moderator.
Hmmmm, I can guess who.
I used to love watching the Big Dig at lunchtime and for something and someone to be shown from Wales was quite nice. As usual though, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú have this annoying habit of finding something which is really entertaining to people, say they are going to re-schedule the programme for a weekend or evening slot, then without any notice, they take it off just like that , never to be seen again.
I suppose when they can show repeat after repeat of Bargin Hunt, Cash in the Attic, Car Booty, Sun Sea and Bargin Spotting, Escape to the country, Celebrity this Celebrity that, Cook this Cook that, quiz this quiz that, sport this sport that, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú do not feel the need to make decent gardening programmes anymore.

I have just received an email to say I've been told off too, something about my nickname. For the life of me I can't understand why Betty; which is my firstname, and a variations of my surname Swallock is offence, its on my birth certificate. You have to chose a nickname which is available when you register and therefore an 'I' and an 'O' in the wrong place is deemed to have broken House Rules - sad really. Sounds like we have a Jobs Worth.
But I agree with your comment; s*d as was; bit like Prince really, and I can guess who also.
Must be something to do with the Midlands.

I've been told off for mentioning other people who had been told off! You couldn't make it up could you!
So how do I get told off?
I feel a bit left out.
I'm half welsh, is that enough?
Or should I mention......what?
Terry has an excellent Podcast called Tales from Terry's Allotment.
Its available Via i Tunes and Gardeners Click website.
Terry I think is one of your TV naturals, no big ego to satisfy, relaxed & good with the camera and I guess from his previous professional life knows how to get his point across in an understandable non patronising way but above all is prepared to listen as well. First saw him in the Big Dig which could, with a bit of refinement and decent directing/editing could have been made into a good gardening programme IMHO. Obviously did not meet the dictates of the "powers that be" and was pulled and or postponed to be replaced with the repetitive antique or soap junk sop which the terrestial channels are full of these days!!.
Terry would be great on a gardening show! He's a natural, as Jeremy Vine discovered from his first broadcast. I've met him at the allotment a couple of times and he is just as he sounds on radio. He did an HTV series called Going To Seed about the lives of allotmenteers at his allotment, with a good bit of gardening info thrown in as well.

I will repeat my message 12, but amended to avoid over sensitive little elfs:
Terry Walton, in my opinion, would in the case of vegetable gardens / allotments, give a better performance than one of the current GW presenters. Terry gives a No Frills, No Gimmick, Belt and Braces delivery which is spot on, without the need of out-dated props.
He made had a guest appearance on tonight's GW from the Cardiff RHS show as well. Shame it wasn't a bit longer.
H
Agreed, Helen (and Colonel!)
He is very refreshing, and quite 'real' in the nicest possible way
Hi Grapevinegirl,
Have you read his book My Life On A Hillside Allotment? You can almost hear him as you read the lines!
H
thanks Helen, will google this
looking good! five star reviews
Hope you enjoy if you get it.
