Oh no!!!!! I cant believe it!!! Didnt the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú listen last year??!! Ive switched on to hear Nikki Chapman's nasal voice AGAIN this year!! I feel like asking for my licence fee back. She is SO SO SO annoying to listen to - for goodness sake get her off and let's just have Alan (going gorgeously grey I note....)

Worse than that nobody screened a warning as to who was lurking in the Flower Marquee!

You have to hand it to Alan Titchmarsh he is looking better the older he gets! Silver suits him. I was looking for signs of botox but it wasn't obvious. How annoying of him!

I had thought i was the only person rude enough to actually say it!
But heartwarming to see them agree they are doing joint missionary work darn sarf
    It's a dirty job, but......

No doubt David K was watching CW avidly ( and having a little drool, perhaps smiley - biggrin ) smiley - winkeye
I thought it was a good programme and that NC has settled down a bit. Andy S is good , and Alan of course smiley - smiley

Nikki Chapman isn't a gardener anyway (is she?) what is she doing on the show at all?

Hi folks. Sorry that Nikki isn't your favourite presenter. Chelsea attracts a broad audience and the presenter team reflects all levels of gardening knowledge, appreciation and experience. Always good to hear constructive criticism of programmes, but please lets not get too personal about individual presenters. They have feelings too! GH smiley - peacedove

Don't object to NC as a person but why oh why can't we have horticultural folk presenting? They would be better placed to ask the right questions, wouldn't they?

Ah, some gender at work here (male bee). I had a busy working Saturday so found some time off today and watched the noon program. Enjoyed NC's neutral interview style and would watch and listen to her for hours, whereas Alan and Joe minutes.

Interesting facts on purple though, courtesy of Jane Brown's book on rhododendrons. Battle of the Magenta (the French army defeating the Austrians in June 1859) was used for marketing purposes in the aftermath of William Henry Perkin's discovery of a synthetic purple dye while trying to make quinine. Punch magazine got into the act with 'mauve measles'. Dickens observed 'purple hands wave from open carriages'. Hence, the arts and crafts movement were no less admiring of the colour, or the ponticum rhododendron.

I like NC and think she is ideal to present the daytime show.

She is a gardener in as much as she has a garden in which she gardens. She is therefore as qualified to comment on the show as a large percentage of the people on this message board.

When is a gardener not a gardener?

That was meant as the 'arts and crafts' movement rejected the synthetic colour.

Also in the book she makes the claim that nursery folk were town and city people, is she correct or is that still so? Watching the TV coverage certainly you get that impression, traditionally some plants were associated with trades like weavers and auriculars. Many features have people leaving city jobs to start nurseries. But there must be farmers making the change too?
