Chelsea Flower Show is not about Poetry, actors, minor celebs. What a waste of time when viewers want to see more of the plants and displays. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has got it terribly wrong.
I went to Chelsea this year - so many wonderful exhibits are not being shown as time is being taken up with all the diatribe.

And why do we keep seeing the same show gardens over and over again when some are ignored?

I expect we have all week to get around and see everything and I liked the poetry.
It's interesting to see all what goes on there.

If you've got digital, and plenty of time, they do really detailed coverage of the show gardens and the floral exhibits on the red button. I don't have time to look at it myself this year, but certainly last year Carol spent ages on each stall in the marquee lingering over loads of individual flowers - it's really good stuff if you want to see the detail.

As a devout disliker of poems, I was quite taken aback at the first one read out last night. So much so I'd like to get a copy of it. I've done the usual searches but can find no references to it nor the poet. I could go to iPlayer and transcribe it if necessary but can anyone please provide a link?

Totally agree with your sentiments and although enjoying the coverage, at the end of each programme I ask-what have I seen of the actual Show?. Suggest they cut the presenter duo-logue, spurious links to him and to her, celeb interviews with tenuouis justification they have a gardensmiley - doh, and get to the real world of the displays, plants etc. Nothing wrong with the presenters but they could still effectively "do their bit" for explanation as a narrative over the pictures rather than monopolising the screen time. When Alan mentions the 100+ medals of which 40 odd were gold in the marquee I thought how many of those have I seen? not many. Cut the "fill and link stuff" which wastes time and cover the items in the Show for the people who cant get there.smiley - ok

I've really been enjoying the coverage. There were lots of complaints last year about the irrelevance of so called celebs at the show and I think the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has listened. There appear to be fewer dotted around this year. Rosemary Edwards is doing a great job. I've been thoroughly entertained. Its a real joy to watch and really does represent what's on offer at the show. There are 4 more days of coverage to go don't forget so much more time to explore all the show gardens and floral exhibits.

I watched the red button coverage last night and it was only 30 minutes long - half of it was devoted to three gardens and half to Carol in the Pavilion. I'm sure that Carol had more air time last year.

Hello Paul N - I got the impression the poems were brand new ones that she was writing as she went around the show yesterday, so I don't suppose they'd be out there yet. Her name was Susan Richardson though.

Oh, that's a shame about the red button stuff - it was so detailed last year, they went round every single show garden in detail didn't they? And it was a really lingering look at the floral pavillion with Carol. I thought the whole point was to linger over the stuff there wasn't the time for in the broadcast shows! Definitely a shame.

I'm not sure that I actually liked the pomes, but they were thought-provoking. So much so that Mr Wallaby and I started composing our own ditties about Chelsea. We got as far as rhyming 'Homer Monkey' with 'Alan's Flunkey', then got distracted.

Anyone care to finish the verse?

Hi all, to answer some of your queries: I will try to get more details about the poem for those interested. And re Red Button coverage, the show garden tours will be available from today. They will be released in packages of three or four gardens at a time. There will also be more from Chris and Carol in the Pavilion.
Let me know if you have any other queries about the coverage and I'll try to get more details for you. Phyll

    Hi Rock Wallaby

I'm not sure about that one but I heard one from the poet last night that started

I saw a slug upon my fleurs
And snipped it with my secateurs

I didn't catch the end of it does anyone remember how it finished?

Thank you PM, according to Susan Richardson's website, she wrote both of the poems yesterday whilst at Chelsea. Hopefully we'll be able to read the words again -

    The squelch and dribble
    Right from its middle
    Perhaps, perhaps...
    should have let it nibble?
