The horticultural trade magazine Horticulture Week is asking visitors to its web site to vote on the new-look Gardeners' World.
The voting options range from 'much improved' to 'dismal'. It's easy to do, there's no signing up or anything, and after voting you get to see how the votes are accumulating in percentage terms.
It might be the only chance we have to collectively register our views on GW, whatever we might think of it.
Go to the home page of Horticulture Week and look for 'Poll'.
Your vote counts
.....with 50% of voters saying GW was either 'dismal' or 'not as good'.
It must have closed as I couldn't find it.

The poll hasn't closed, it looks like it might have disappeared temporarily! Go to and you'll find it in the column on the right hand side of the page. If it's not there try refreshing the page
I voted for a much improved GW! I might delete the cookie and vote again and again!
Hejhog
Don't get me wrong, I really do dislike the present format. However, although this survey indicates a major proportion of voters dissatisfied with the present format, it does only represent the opinions of (at the moment) of 122 voters....hardly representative of the 2m + viewers of the program.
I voted 'dismal' and if you vote again, Hejhog, so shall I.
I won't vote again, because the site keeps crashing my browser.
People can vote as many times as they like, as long as they don't accept or wipe their cookies. So, it says 123 votes, but that does not necessarily equate to the number of people voting. On-line polls are notorious for being skewed by people wanting to advance a particular opinion.
Hejhog
TheHejhog, words fail me (almost).
I have never seen such amatuerish, borderline childish, less informitive gardening on our number one gardening programe ever, and I have been watching since I was very young, and I am not old either.
I read your comments with interest but I and many, many more feel quite the opposite to you but aren't quite so vacal on a daily basis as you. I beg you to watch just a smattering from each of the other presenters/producers and you will see that there is no comparison.
The Producers need to think of a way to keep their valued viewers whilst attracting new, difficult I and many other viewers realize but aiming at new gardeners only, and particularly in this format, is not the way forward.
Pity poor Hejhog, they really do seem to have so much time on their hands. Even enough time to cast doubt on the validity of an online poll. I agree paperwhite, they do need to try out some other past presenters.
BTW the online poll at shows that just over half of those voting think GW is 'dismal'.
Hej
Get a decent browser, bet you got M$oft IE installed.
Any decent on line vote will also check the IP address and note it, you sift off the multiple votes at the end. But there are ways round it.
No one takes any real notice anyway
Just look at the petition on no 10's website for GB to resign!

Followed by a big slab of text. I am sorry, I didn't read it, Paperwhite. Can I surmise it by saying it was a patronising suggestion to go back in time and pay attention to the former GW gardeners, who were, of course, so much better?

That is completely true. Straw polls make great headlines, but hardly ever give a true reflection of popular opinion.
The BARB figures are a better reflection of GW's popularity. GW has retained viewers in a shrinking market. If the programme was so bad, people would switch off. Some may have, but others have started watching. I pay more attention to BARB figures than straw polls in a magazine with a limited circulation.
And who is to blame for the new Gardeners' World format? The users of this messageboard:
"Some of the changes are in responses [sic] to feedback left on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú message boards - we've made these changes with viewers in mind."Â
Andy Vernon, series producer, quoted in the Birmingham Post.

I've just had a look; it's 60% who say it's dismal.
Food for thought Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú..
I think they have made changes in response to feeback. Last week there was a much higher proportion of gardening, the 'hot/not' discussion was all but gone, the 30 minute slot and the competition element merged. It's still a changed programme - and why not - but it seems clear that they have modified version one of the new format in light of specific comments.

Yes - they read what we wanted and did the opposite!
