Is it me or has having spent a week in the (in my opinion), delightful company of Alan at the CFS that Joe has finally shaken off the 'Jack the Lad' image and returned to his former self, which in my opinion (yes that again) can only help his career as people will now take his experience, knowledge and information seriously.
I sincerely hope Joe continues in this way.

I agree paperwhite - Joe is finally being allowed to demonstrate his strengths. The re-design of the couple's garden is interesting, down-to-earth and well explained. And his front garden is the only one (so far, anyway) which looks like it could provide some useful tips for those with very limited spaces in front of their houses.

    So, well done Joe.

I always liked Joe's take on design in the Chelsea shows. Though I didn't always agree with him it was good to have a designer's eye view, however brief, of the gardens he got to discuss.

I loathed his performance on the allotment last year and his descent in to Mockney Jack the Lad.

Last night he seemed back on designer form, especially when counselling Alys against 30 minute crap and avising taking more time and achieving a better finish. Maybe he's been quietly reading comments on here.

The remake of the couple's established garden is interesting and useful and his front garden looks hopeful too. However, I did have to wonder about how he was going to get to the rest of his concrete mix once he'd laid the first couple of rows of slabs heading carefully away from his wheelbarrow....

I agree too. The front garden design was strong, practical and made great use of the space. Good to see him demonstrating hands on landscaping techniques too so confidently and clearly.

He has looked uncomfortable with the fun-poking since the first day with Toby on the veg plot - remember 'it's not as bad I expected' and having the mickey taken of his raspberry canes. I guess the novelty of being TB's sidekick has worn off - rightly so.
