As there seems to be so much discontent with the present GW presentation team, who would you like to see lead the show?
Presuming AT & MD are not available.
Boris Johnson.
Lead: Carol Klein
Team: Joe and Alys
As the one who started the thread, I suppose I should make a suggestion....Nick Hamilton would be my first choice.
Nice one David.
As I can't have Gertrude Jekyll or V Sackville-West I'd plumb for Sarah Raven with Chris Beardshaw and Fergus Garratt, Head Gardener at Great Dixter, as team members.
Chris Beardshaw, Dan Pearson, Matthew Wilson with Carole and Sarah doing the bits they are best at!
Anybody but the present one.
What about guest presenters like they do on "Have I Got News For You"?
Works very well there and gives everyone a chance to show the viewers their style. Hopefully then, one might shine out like a beacon!
ditto sparky
I had the very same people on my wish list
That's a good idea groundelder. Why not give John Walker a go? He writes for Organic Garden magazine and seems to be a real gardener who also has a grip on environmental issues. Gardening ought to be one of the most sustainable things we do, and his stuff does sound like he gets it. I always read him. Wonder what his garden is like - could we get him a slot on GW?
I could go with Chris Beardshaw but couldn't stomach another "eco warrior"!
Really though I'm sure it's not all the fault of the presenters that Gardener's World is dross. All they have to do is read the words they are given to suit the presentation dreamed up by the production company. The problem seems to be that the current production company got lost on their way to CBeebies and finished up with a contract to produce Gardener's World.
Until we get a production company that understands gardening and gardener's needs, and projects those in programme design and planning, then my cat could do well as anyone as far as presenting is concerned. In fact my cat could out-present Joe Swift without really trying.
I know who should lead the show. ME!
Knowledgeable, likeable, passionate, energetic and would put my heart and soul to making the best gardening show ever.
peter seabrook, lead. side kicks joe, carol,chris.sarah.
beardshaw, raven, klein and swift - no team leader. all have 15 minutes or so each. they have their own specialities.

Has it crossed anyone's mind that we might get more out of GW if we dump this obsession with celebrity, including gardening celebrity, and look for some more down to earth people to convey gardening knowledge?
Maybe then we could concentrate on the gardening information and passion, rather than being fixated on personalities.
Peter Seabrook? Give me a break.
i just like those presenters- gw just feels right when they are there, doing what they do best. knowledgable and watchable.
Mathew Wilson. There's simply no one else who'd do. With Sarah Raven and maybe Helen Yemm from their own gardens.
Terry thingy - the Radio 2 allotments man!
My dream team would be Chris Beardshaw as anchor because he has a depth of knowledge combined with excellent communication skills so informs, enthuses and makes you look at plants in diffrent ways.
For support and regular fetaures I'd like to see a rotating weekly spot from each of the big four RHS head gardeners in turn; Pippa Greenwood on pests and diseases and how to recognise and deal with them; Carole on sowing and propagating and plants for free; Terry or Bledwyn on veggies.
Another regular feature should be seasonal contributions from gardens such as Bodnant, Powis, Hilliers, Arley Hall, Dixter, the national botanic gardens and so on - to show us best practice and lovely plants and also inspire us to visit such gardens ourselves and support their future. Stephen Lacey used to do this very well for GW.
To balance these, visits to small gardens and their owners so we can see what can be achieved in small plots with a little imagination and effort and not always on a huge budget. Helen Yemm would be good at presenting these.
I agree wholeheartedly with you, Obelixx. The format you recommend would be spot on.
Now, how to let the production team know of our plans ........
I couldn't agree more Obby. That would be my ideal programme too. I might add Gay Search to the mix for smaller gardens in addition, as I always enjoyed her presenting style.
Yes Piggin. She and Helen Yemm weer always good at explaining things to beginners as well as the more experienced and both have done some very good pieces on improving the look of a border or garden.
In fact, I'd quite like to see their programmes on small front gardens and renovating or improving existing gardens rescreened.

I'd definately watch your programme Obelixx.
the production team already know your plans. The current format came about from taking the input of forum members over the last several years.
Oooh really - do you work for the show glenburnie7? How exciting!
Hello glenburnie7
I doubt very much that the production team has formed the current format by listening to forum members over several years, otherwise they would not have produced such a car wreck of a program.
Obelixx has put forward, as usual,a great solution to put the program back on course that will help GW and it's forum users no end.
Holbert no I don't work for the show but I have read many of the suggestions on this forum about what the posters wanted from the show. Seem many of the suggestions have been granted.
hmmmm ..... been posting on here for many years glenburnie7 and don't remember reading any requests for clowns, plastic parrots, garden gnomes or gnome cams, etc.
But of course you do have a point - there was a huge amount of whingeing here every time MD spent more than a sixpence and indignant cries for a lead presenter imbued in the ways of thrift. And I hope those posters are happy now as they certainly got what they asked for.
Obelixx is right on the button for me
It almost sounds like GW of old. This is the sort of programme I'd love to snuggle down to on a friday after a hard weeks slog at work.
please please please...
x
Obelixx has the perfect answer, I would definitely watch that. I have stopped watching GW in its present format.
Personally I like Toby Buckland. Don't think the current GW problems are his fault.
Certainly would not want Chris "I'm not listening to your opinion because mine's the best" Beardshaw.
Matthew Wilson is great and would like to see Dan Pearson back on tv. Great gardener.
"Chris Beardshaw, Dan Pearson, Matthew Wilson with Carole and Sarah doing the bits they are best at!"
I like Sparky's suggestions also. I don't mind Alys staying either so long as they don't give her such stupid scripted scenes to do. I would be happy to see more of Geoff Hamilton's son too.
I could happily add Helen Yemm to my list.
Bluedoyenne the posters asked for a 1 hour show.
the posters asked for a more relaxed atmosphere on the show.
the posters ask for friendly interaction between presenters.
the posters asked for a lighter side gardening.
the posters asked for short simple and easy projects.
The posters have got what they wanted. The problem is the posters now do not like the form their suggestion have taken on the new GW.
Which given the way the posters on the garden boards have talked in the past about the GW team they have gotten exactly what they deserve. Since the old saying is very true. " Be careful what you wish for you might get it.
Hello glenburnie7
Considering that you have only been posting for 7 days on the boards how do you know what posters have asked for? Having read your posting about tomato pruning I am of the opinion that you are a WUM. Grid?
Which posters? The 'planted' ones?
If all this was asked for before the current presenters, yes, I'd have joined them. Now I say, take it off, enough is enough! Re-show Geoff & Alan, so people can learn real gardening made simple by clever men & enjoyed by everyone.
And can we stop asking week in, week out, month in, month out, who should present it? How many more times are we going to go through these arguments?
lionRedwood I been reading this message board for longer then a week. As know what has been posted about gw in previous posts on this message board. It is not hard any one can do it.
A lot of those things may have been asked for - BUT - we didn't ever ask to be given dodgy information, crap DIY projects, embarrassing scripted banter between presenters and we didn't want to lose the 'what to do now' stuff instead of 'what's hot' etc.
I agree with Obs but would also ask that we have the occassional appearance from James Alexander Sinclair.
So, this show is now a great example of 'be careful what you ask for' is it? . Never mind, if we keep these threads going, in two/three years time we will have a show we would like to watch then?
Absolutely HSL. I love JAS' way of talking about plants and design - erudite, eccentric, fun and informative. Add him to my list.
Me too
Agree, JSL would be a great addition to the list, maybe not as a main presenter but as an occasional 'special' would be great.
Chris Beardshaw, Anne Swithinbank,Pippa Greenwood and Bob Flowerdew for a veg slot
I would keep the team as it is, but modify the format itself a bit. Maybe have a section where viewers send in gardening questions..then have a vsiting expert answer the question and maybe demonstrate some technique that helps answer the query...
I'd like to see some more challenging topics covered with less emphasis being placed on basics, which could still be covered without them taking over the whole show.
Helen Yemm - Saturday Telegraph. Informed with no axe to grind. And no history.
Her Saturday column is a breath of real life fresh air.
Leader: Carol Klein
Team: Joe Swift, Chris Beardshaw, Rachel de Thame and maby Sara Raven every now and then.
I just can't stand Toy and Alys!
Athene, I asolutely agree with you about Helen Yemm, I love her Saturday column in the Telegraph!
I too like Obs ideas (with JAS!)
I would really like to see (smaller) viewers gardens. It is interesting to see beautiful large gardens but, unfortunately, not all of us have big gardens - we need tips and ideas for average size gardens, please.

This posting has been hidden during moderation because it broke the in some way.
eco_gardener: I have reason to believe that you are John Walker. It might be fine to vote for yourself as (guest) presenter on GW but it seems a little disingenuous to hide it.
Andy McIndoe from Hilliers at Romsey, Carol Klein and Chris Beardshaw.
