I just love her! She is so intellectual and unique, and brings a new edge to the show! I think she really is unapreciated!
Also, does anyone know how I can contact her? I am just curious what roots she went down to get to where she is at such a young age.
"Alys has been a gardener since her teens, and after leaving school trained with the Royal Horticultural Society, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the New York Botanical Gardens and studied a masters degree in Society, Science and the Environment. She later worked as a journalist on Horticulture Week and Landscape Review and joined the Gardeners' World team first as a horticultural researcher and later as Head Gardener at the programme's Berryfields garden.
Alys's inspiration from urban gardening projects began during her time in New York. Much of the ethic, thrift and spirit that thrives in such settings is found in her work today. Alys contributes regularly to Gardens Illustrated, and her first book, The Thrifty Gardener was published in 2008."
It's all there for the googling!
Yes, herself and Carol are the only reasons I still tune in to GW every week. Joe has become increasingly... I'll leave that to the readers imagination as I don't want to breach the T&Cs, and Toby seems to have been given a poisoned chalice and doesn't seem to know what audience to aim for anymore.
Alys is excellent - lots of handy tips and a real concern for the environment. I loved it when she had some trouble with the roof garden on the guinea pig hutch - lovely to see somebody NOT doing everything perfectly for once.
