Have just caught up with the Gardeners World Live programme. and, like Alys, loved the look of the spiral plant support. Anyone know where can I find out more about them?
I'd also like to know!
Is this what you mean?
or....www.blackcountrymeta...
I'll try again!

I can't mention any names on here, but a certain leading tv shopping channel sells them on their website.
Are those links, given above, the same thing that was shown on the program. They don't look like it to me.
But if you put "spiral plant supports" into Google, you get thousands of pages. Including some which do look more like the one in the program.
But you do still to buy one for each plant, so if you're growing tomatoes, that turns out to be a very expensive way to grow them. A ball of twine will suffice for a whole row, at a fraction of the cost.
hi they are called Twisters, I've just received mine got them off the net by return a set of 3 for £15 I'm just out to try one now!
Can you let us know how easy they are to use, and if you think they'll live up to the claims made, whether they're stable or not, please?
You can get them here
£15.95 for 3 + pp
Thanks!

I seem to recall someone being very scathing about spiral supports - possibly it was Alan Titchmarsh on a Chelsea show last year. I think the problem was that they just don't do the job very well - plants don't have much to grab onto and the ties can just slide down the spiral.

I've been using one which my Sister gave me for years. I use it for growing early clematis and then cut the clem down when it's finished flowering. Then I plant the morning glory and sweetpea to grow up it. It's quite good but I have to use bricks on the bottom to keep it stable. Also because of the gaps between the circles the plants need a bit of help to climb. It would be interesting to use it next year for the tomatoes. I too will be interested to see how folks use them.
If anyone is coming to France on holiday they have been used for ages here and are available at a fraction of the cost quoted above. I can't remember how much I paid, a couple of euros each perhaps 2 or 3 years ago. I find them excellent for training tomatoes both inside and outside and no more faffing about tying in with string. Additional support ( a stake at each end of the row) will be needed to prevent them blowing over. Otherwise I suppose you could lean the spirals against a wall.
I'm going to France at the end of this week are they only available in Garden centres Logissimo?
On the bbc gardener's world website is a 'how to' project on making your own spiral plant support. It says, quote, "if you shop carefully you should be able to buy all the ingredients for under £10.
Hi Greengirl,
Many supermarkets have a gardening section too so you may find them there too, Leclerc, Carrefour. Good hunting, you will need to look or ask for "tuteurs spirales".
PS I did check on the internet and my mamory of prices was not far out, bunches of 10 for 30euros. But there are more expensive one too!
Aldi had some a few weeks ago - I must agree with the others though - they look good but if they work ???????. to pratical thats my problem
Emum
Many thanks Logissimo, i'll look out for them.
