Appricots in England?

  My wife told me that this evenings program Garden File (Sunday 7th July) had a spot about apricots being grow in England.
  
  Sadly I missed this eposode. It was stated that one of them had never seen apricots grown in England sucessfully. There seemed to be some suprise that this was being tried.
  
  We have had an apricot tree in our garden for abot 7 years now. Right from the 1st year of planting it has been seriously overloaded with fruit.(Needs thining out NOW) If this program would like to see it or a photo now of the over laden fruit contact us.

  Hasn't this same chap been on various radio and TV programmes over the past few years? Lots of publicity, but AFAIK he hasn't actually produced anything yet.
  I've got no experience of the more exotic things like olives, but apricots, peaches, vines and figs are all perfectly hardy here in Gloucestershire and have been grown outdoors in the UK for (possibly?)centuries. Ah, but getting them to FRUIT... and RELIABLY...that's quite a different matter!

  I think there was a bit on Beechgrove a while ago about growing apricots against a sunny sheltered wall. But as Beechgrove is produced in Aberdeen then apricots in England may still be unknown!
