Funny how all the initiative was coming from the English 'incomers' to the island.
I expect the locals were happy enough to be bellying, ya ken! Hoots!

Hi,
is it on every week, if so which day please,
you said Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1 is that correct,
I do hope it is, Ellie

I would not agree that all the 'initiative' was coming from the English incomers, it was not clear who exactly had initiated the work, but there were certainly plenty of English participants.
Unfortunately this situation is all too typical of living in Scotland these days. I come from Oban, just a few miles from Seil and find it very sad that it is often difficult to visit a beautiful, remote area like this and actually hear a Scottish accent!! The numbers of English moving to Scotland is overwhelming and will obviously have an effect on local communities - not always for the better. The most obvious example is exactly the situation you refer to - too often English incomers (your term) will take over, interfere, set up a commitee, and generally intrude on the Scottish way of life and explain it as 'taking the initiative', but what they are actually doing is spoiling our quiet way of life. I think we are entitled to 'belly' about that. So no, it isn't funny - its pretty typical.

Oh well never mind invitrospud, there's two sides to every story aren't there?
A lot of English are moving up to Scotland to be moaned about and a lot of Scottish are moving to England to take advantage of the better wages and moan about the English, whilst happily taking their money.
I would suggest stricter border controls / immigration controls by both countries to prevent either situation.

I also watched this on i player. Does anyone know how they constructed the clouch shown at the end of programme. Always interested in finding new ways to support netting. It looked like some kind of rubber braid. Unfortunately they did not mention it within the programme.

Can't help as I switched off after a few mins both this week and last week. Love the Beechgrove garden programme when it's from the garden but don't find the community/school garden programmes of any interest at all.

Yes, I am the same. They fit in a lot more interesting bits when they are at Beechgrove.

I record the programme using the green button, 'Series link' on my SKY remote. So I get Wed's prog as well as the repeated one on the following Monday afternoon.

JEEMAR, it's on Scottish Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.
We don't subscribe to Sky either, ellieho, but have to have a satellite dish because of poor reception in this area. This means we can get Beechgrove etc. When we first heard about it through this site my oh scrolled through the endless list of channels visible when first switching on TV and keyed Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland into the 'favourites' list on our remote.
Now, is simple!

Hello gbn,
Does the programme have a number by any chance, as on Freeview? Like Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 24 has 80?
Link to this forum: Beechgrove Garden on at 7;30 tonight Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1
Try either 971 or 990 - One's Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 1 Scotland, the other's Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 Scotland and sadly I can't remember which channel Beechgrove is on!
We programmed both numbers in because both channels have merit.

Thanks both - I'd like to have watched Beechgrove again. It used to be standard.
I tried both numbers but they change to 728 on Freeview - a radio music station called Heart. Perhaps I could ipod Beechgrove but I find iponds such hard work to watch I don't usually bother. Thanks anyway. C u.

Hi Jeemar,
Why don't you watch Beechgrove on i-player? I'm on aol and I had all sorts of trouble getting it but aol sent me a program which I just use to watch i-player.

Hello dwarfbean : I tried watching Beechgrove on listen again after I'd been chatting but the winding up was almost continuous and was such a distraction.
Are iponds downloaded? and do you still have to watch on your computer, with speakers? I couldn't get the volume loud enough to hear from my comfortable chair without them on listen again. I've heard there's a new gadget that will let you watch them on tv and thought I'd ask a more technically able friend than I am about one.
Link to this forum: Beechgrove Garden on at 7;30 tonight Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1
Hi Jeemar,
I watch it on my computer with the loudspeakers. One problem I do have is when the screen safe kicks in but that is soon dealt with as I tap the mouse.
There are lots of other goodies on i-player if you are into TV in a big way.

I did click iplayer highlights on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Homepage - my IE Homepage - this morning and decided to listen to Mahler's 9th while I pottered about the kitchen and oversaw a chap thinning and shortening the overgrown shrubs in the rain. I couldn't really get into it in the way I'd expected to from what I'd read about it but was very pleased to be able to tick off one of the items on my 'must listen to' or 'find out about' list in such a lovely easy way. Thanks for bringing it to my attention db.
Yes radio and tv are very important to me now. At the moment I'm enjoying grandparent diaries and Jo Brandt's Getting On plays on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú4. There was a similarly difficult patient as Jo had, on my ward when I was in hospital last summer. I wish there'd been a Jo about to deal with her! No such luck.
Sorry I've interrupted and gone off topic.

Jeemar,
When I was in hospital with my broken leg many years ago we had a chap who used to drive a horse and cart on the ward. The only trouble was he was always shouting at his horse in the middle of the night or should I say early in the morning.

Good grief, Dwarfbean! I hope you demanded he compensated you for your broken nights in horse manure.
Sorry for shouting your name up top, Jeemar, I just copied it from your post's address line. Don't care for Mahler myself but as you say, if you don't try these things, you may be missing a gem.

Hello greebosnanny
Since registering, I've realized that nicknames in caps is not done on MBs. Suppose I must have had the caps lock on at the time. Anyhow, it's so unusual, at least it's easily spotted so folk can easily skip it if they think 'oh her again' and give me a miss. If you don't, I don't mind uc or lc, whichever you're in at the time'll be lovely.

Another atrocious programme this week, interminably dragging on about some hideous municipal landscaping. When are old tyres half-buried in the ground a 'garden'. Ah, yes, it's 'green' innit!

Hi you on holiday? great episode last night- still concerned about Jim but plenty of tips. Carolyn top form with infectious laugh and green and red nail varnish- very garden friendly .
Why does Jim talk about "shaw or shore" when he is taking the tops off his tatties?. We call it the haulm!! is it a Scottish thing?
Link to this forum: Beechgrove Garden on at 7;30 tonight Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1
Hi Welshcol
I wondered about Jim last night, too. He looked a bit pale and unsteady from time to time. All together now - aah...
As for the 'haulm' question, I've heard all 'Jim's Angels' use the s word (not sure how to spell it) so I guess it is a Scottish term.

As for the 'haulm' question, I've heard all 'Jim's Angels'......Â
Like it imagining Jim keeping control of his gardening harem .
We will have to await pronouncement on the matter-hoots man!!!.
Link to this forum: Beechgrove Garden on at 7;30 tonight Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1
Ah, wish I could claim it for my own, Welshcol, but Beechgrove did a little spoof of 'Charlie's Angels' themselves a few months ago!
Link to this forum: Beechgrove Garden on at 7;30 tonight Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1
Why does Jim talk about "shaw or shore"Â
In the absence of my countrywoman, perhaps I could confirm that 'shaw' is indeed the word north of the border to describe the upper growth of the potato. Indeed, anyone with the surname Shaw will almost certainly have been nicknamed 'Totty' at sometime in their lives. Of course, with a surname like Smart, I've no sympathy for them whatsoever.
