I like the new look of Gardeners' World and I also like the tips and advice that you can get. I am finding it useful because I want to study at Hadlow College in a HND in Commercial Horticulture....
I'm a relative beginner, with a passion for plants.
I hate it.
(I like Carol and Alys but there is not enough of them to convince me to spend an hour infront of the telly).
I watched the first few episodes this season and stopped watching. It was utter rubbish full of idiotic banter and maybe one or two useful tips if I was lucky.
Can anyone tell me if it has improved?
When I started a BSc in Horticulture, the college gave us a list of magazines to subscribe to, books to read, programmes to watch etc that might be useful supplemental information for our course. I was very surprised to find that Gardeners' World was not included in the list, neither the programme nor the magazine .
Mind you, I was also surprised that "Country Life" magazine *was* on the list, as that just seemed to be a magazine of exclusive house for sale adverts to me!
(I think GW wasn't included because it is geared to the keen amateur market whereas the college course was for the purpose of turning us all into seasoned professionals )
I prefer The Garden to Gardeners World magazine any day
Yes, good thought Stormy Pink!
If you aren't a member already Gardener-holic, I'd recommend joining the RHS so they send you their monthly magazine, The Garden. I initally found the content a bit dry and high brow, and really had to give myself a mental kick up the backside to get myself to read it at first, but it was absolutely invaluable for college course work.
I wasn't trying to put you off GW earlier by the way, but I was just saying don't be surprised if your course doesn't make much (or any) reference to GW, I guess.
Good luck with the course - I loved mine!
I wouldn't mention you like GW on this board, what I have read so far plenty of moaners on here about GW.
It's a gardening programme will survive all the moaners for many years to come.
If our brave soliders could read some of these moaners messages on here this would say what on earth are we putting our lives on the line every day.
You moaners would really have something to moan about if you were in our brave soliders postion.. not some gardening programme.
GET REAL..
How does that advert for chocolate go? Oh I know.."NUTS, whole hazelNUTS" etc etc
What on earth has Gardener's World got to do with our 'brave' soldiers? No one is putting their lives on the line in order that I may moan about Gardener's World. No one is putting their lives on the line for me at all. Soldiers are putting their live on the line for absolutely no clear aim at all. Are we to not discuss anything that interests us or criticise any programme until your brave troops come home?
In August our son returns to Afghanistan for yet another tour of duty there. Nine years ago he volunteered to join the RAF and he is simply doing his duty.
What he and many like him are doing has absolutely NOTHING to do with our comments on our favourite gardening programme. We aren't moaning but voicing our general dissatisfaction on how a once superb and essential programme has descended so far.
By the way it is SOLDIERS not SOLIDERS.
please give my regards and wishes to your son while he protects this country.and i agree this has nothing to do with gardening.however,i no longer watch the programme.we need to get back to learning basics;sowing, prunning, cultivation of exotic species, grafting etc.i always remember percy and all the other guys handing out good advice and could watch it for the hour.it seems to go of the boil silly bits of garden here and there.good job joe dont come on my allotments he's no allotment man in spite of what he says.i'd like to know who does the digging and hoeing when he's away planning posh gardens.critical but thats the way it is.

Looks ok, just lost it's way a bit. Alys with her mad cap presentation style and Carole clearly only agreed to continue, if she could broadcast from home, so they came up with her showing novices the basics, whilst traipsing round her garden, find it a bit difficult to take seriously some weeks.
The Garden is much, MUCH more reader-friendly than it used to be, Holbert.
When I was knee high to a Dutch Hoe, members used to be called 'Fellows' and it wasn't just the plant names written in Latin

I liked the netting around the cabbage plants, so easy to do with such little expense, must give it a go.
I have not watched Gardners World for a while, moved house and lost my fab Garden. I tuned in on Friday night and thought I had tuned into CÂ鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.
the most profoundly idiotic comment i think i have ever seen. amazing . shocking.
No GW tonight. Thank goodness for the Proms. (Says it all really - GW not missed)
