Jo Swift's allotment raspberries

    If my experience is anything to go by, Jo has planted his main crop and autumn raspberries too close together.
    Because they spread underground, after a year or so, one type starts growing into the other.
    The reason this matters is because they are pruned differently - main crop canes have recently fruited canes removed and the new growth is tied in during the summer, whereas autumn fruiting canes are all cut to the ground in late winter.
    I now grow my varieties as far away from each other as possible.
