anyone thinking of applying? I am!
No.
i'm sure they said the viewers would get to vote on the winner.
Surely this would become a popularity contest not a contest in a test of Horticultural skills.
Aw, come on guys, it's fun if you win and character building if you lose! Plus you get put up in a nice hotel by the Beeb which justifies your license fee, and you get to meet fellow garden fanatics, so what's not to like?
Potential total humiliation, viewed by millions?
Is it true that when you appear on tv you look fatter? If so, I think I'll give it a miss!
If how you appear and what others think really matters a great deal to you, then probably best not to do it.
I did it as a personal challenge, prompted by friends, largely because I tend to do my best against deadlines and external goals. End result was I did things I never dreamt I could do, met some great people and had a lot of fun in the process. Though I've since done more TV stuff and am quite happy being filmed, I don't like seeing myself on telly and only watch programmes I'm in once, at most, usually from behind the sofa. It's too weird.
Whether you will enjoy it mostly comes down to your psychology - what motivates you, what you enjoy and what keeps you awake at night with fright.
Thanks Trillium
I'll think about it
Go for it aquaflower_power.
Let us know if you enter and we'll be ready to give you (and any other posters who decide to enter) support from the other side of the TV screen.
Petalina, I regret to inform you you sure won't look thinner! Still, I'm about five foot square and still did it, it's knowledge and enthusiasm that counts, not the size of your bottom.
You looked great silly
Don't knock yourself
I second that nooj
aw shucks
for another shameless exhibition of myself, check out bbc.co.uk/gardenersworld. At least they hid the worst bits behind some flowers
I'm puzzled about why I haven't seen any reference to the competition for several years. I used to watch it in process and visit the finished gardens at BBG every year but thought it must have been dropped until I saw it being talked about on here today. On the web site I found it was continuing - hello 'crouchee' -congratulations - so how am I missing it? Not shown on tv any more? Do hope someone will tell me. I enjoyed it a lot.
It gets mentioned on GW when they're looking for competitors and then the resulting programme is shown in December - usually.
Thanks Obs. I note what you say.
go on enter the gardener of the year show i did in 2001 and got to the final and had a great time dispite never having built a show garden before but we all got on well and had a great time give it a go.
I really enjoy watching gardening and cooking etc done to such a high standard. It's great to know there's so much talent about to be inspired by. You must be one of those gifted gardeners youself. It must be because I no longer get the Gardening News Letter that I missed knowing about the show. It changed from being in ordinary Eng lang to some kind of ITSPEKE and I didn't know how to change it into Word so I stopped it.
Anyway, Heartbeat's on and it's one of my favs. The music and the Yorkshire scenery that the pc's motor bike and buses and old lorries trundle over are so romantic. M m m m m m. C u admeto hope you win next time, c u db, c u Amazing.
