I've just recently upgraded to Freeview and was looking forward to seeing all those extra stations. Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú3 and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú4 were two stations I had high hopes for.

Maybe there would be some garden repeats; Alan Titchmarsh perhaps for he is never off the screen! Monty Don has still got a great following, or if I was to be very lucky Geoff Hamilton. Well needless to say I was pretty disappointed for to date I haven't noticed any gardening programs on either of these two stations.

I would have thought that during the summer months when the Gardeners World gardeners all seem to go off on their holidays that maybe, just maybe, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú would have rewarded us with, at the very least some gardening repeats, especially on the likes of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú3 and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú4 where the pressure on timetabling mustn't be all that great; after all we do get Dr. Who almost every week night!!

The point has been made on more than one occasion in these forums that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú seem to be dumming down on their gardening programs so maybe I shouldn't hold my breath and just make do with my 'Geoff Hamilton Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Collection' and the view videos I made of Monty.

Oh dear, I do think you're expecting a lot. Like you I have the Freeview channels and like you I am also disappointed that almost no gardening programmes are repeated. After all just how many times do we want to see 'I was Churchill's Bodyguard' which seems to be on every single day.

In an ideal world we'd all like to enjoy again repeats from the Geoff Hamilton/Alan Titchmarsh/Monty Don days - the way gardenening programmes should be produced - but for the life of me, I just don't know the answer. Thankfully I have my videos.

    Paul N

for the life of me, I just don't know the answer. Thankfully I have my videos.
And so do the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú. They are from the week before from Beeb 1-2 then replayed on 3-4 a dozen times between Dr Who and other programmes where you do not have to tax your brain in any way.
We are considered to be a Nation of brain dead morons who are hard pressed to understand anything not on children's TV.
Gardening my friends means concentrating for at least two minutes at a time or so GW seem to think, we may all explode and spoil the wall paper if it lasts longer than that.
All the old garden programmes had you concentrating for at least thirty minutes??? Good grief the producers say, that must have been horrendous torture for the viewers, "elf n safety" will be on our backs if we ever do that again!
I have given up all hope now and also given up watching the present dross, I lose myself in my gardening books instead.
    Frank.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú3 is aimed at late teens to twenty year olds, so WHY on earth would they have Garden shows? Its not the Beebs fault, its just not part of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú3's target audience. In that age group repeats are popular, as they are the age range that more than likely missed the first airing of a show.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú4 is the opposite, and its aimed at the more intelligient viewer, with documentarys and special seasons. I dont think Gardening really fits Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú4, but they do show the odd show before Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2, like that Gardening Fashion through the ages one.

Both Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú3 and 4 share the same channel signal as CÂ鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and CBEEBIES, so that is why they are only on from 7pm onwards.

I wish we had a 'Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Gold' or 'Choice' with the best of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú shows from times gone by.

You learn something new every day, and there was me thinking all the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and ITV channels were just for the late teens with continual repeats so they could see the bit they missed going to the fridge for the beer.
I may just pay more attention to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú four then although as our attention span is supposedly in milliseconds i could miss the intelligent bits.
    Frank.

Sam I'm sure you meant intellectual not intelligent there is a subtle difference
An intellectual (from the adjective meaning "involving thought and reason") is a person who uses his or her intelligence and analytical thinking, either in a professional capacity, or for personal reasons.

Intelligence is an umbrella term used to describe a property of the mind that encompasses many related abilities, such as the capacities to reason, to plan, to solve problems, to think abstractly, to comprehend ideas, to use language, and to learn. There are several ways to define intelligence. In some cases, intelligence may include traits such as creativity, personality, character, knowledge, or wisdom. However there is no agreement on which traits define the phenomenon of intelligence agreed upon by a majority across the various concerned disciplines.

I suspect the reason there is no gardening Programmes, repeats or otherwise, on TV at the moment, is that the programme planners assume we will be in our gardens or 'up the allotment' and not sitting in front of the box.smiley - smiley
