A very good half hour program tonight
Cannot wait to see the other half tomorrow night.
Gardens looked a lot better than Chelski and Hampton Court.

We went to Tatton on Thursday and for a while my husband watched a band playing as he rested his legs. He loved them but didn't catch their name. They played from about 2.30pm. Can anyone help with their name.
    Very grateful for any help.

Hi folks - there's lots to see at the show and loads of ideas to take away. Glad you got a taste of it all from the TV coverage and hope you enjoy tonight's show too. If you want to see and read more about the show, take a look at the website:

And if you're going to the show, share your pictures in the Tatton gallery:

Please do not ask why a large boot is sticking out of my now broken state of the art TV screen?
I missed the first half hour of the Tatton Show (derisory laugh, half hour).
Tuned in on time and waited, and waited, and waited. Four minutes of introduction before the gardens.
Then whiz we were off to Jersey another four minutes, then whoa up lads we were off to Stokesley just down the road from me for another four minutes, that works out at now let me see, socks off, oh yes eight fingers two thumbs and two little piggies, ah twelve. Twelve minutes out of a thirty minute show about Tatton Show Gardens?
That left eighteen minutes for the actual show gardens most of which turned out to be Joe and Carol talking.
I give up, we would like to see some of the wonderful flowers and gardens, the in depth bits would be well received on a separate programme so why take up show time to do it.
I have been once, now tempus fugit and takes its toll so we rely on TV and what we get is very poor indeed, what makes it worse is being followed by a repeat of top gear, one hour which will be shown at least another ten times through the year, Tatton Show will not.
Now where is my insurance? what does it say about boot stuck in screen?
    Frank.

The Cranes bill or Geranium glowers from Stokesley won a gold medal and a worthy one too.
We spent time in their greenhouse as they prepared for the show and the new plants they are producing.
All good and well in a separate programme I would love it, but it was the TATTON SHOW and we saw very little of it.
A bit like the Sunderland Airshow last year, no Flying! not exactly what we expected to see.

Completely agree with you Remefrankmee. It was the same with Hampton Court, which I know (unlike Tatton) had 2 hour-long programme - but how much of that time was spent actually in Hampton Court Palace, giving us a History lesson on Henry and his wives. Like you, I just want to see the gardens and plants, etc. As Tatton is my 'local' and I go there every year, I know that it would not be difficult to fill 60 minutes with the actual show. My OH is a keen golfer, and I think the same people who are responsible for these shows, must also be in charge of those 'live' progs. He got very 'excited' last week, when they spent ages interviewing people - and showing the surrounding scenery, instead of showing the 'action'. The only difference in our house between last week and when the Gardening Shows are on is the language smiley - biggrin - mine is more refined !!

PS Congratulations to Trilluim for winning the medal with her garden. No, it wasn't on the telly - they didn't have time to show itsmiley - erm

Correct apart from Phyll mentions an interview with her which we did not see.
Far better to see that than rushing all over the place to make a film or is it a goody for the camera crews I wonder??
    Frank.
PS I hate golf and they spent twelve hours a day on that, we get a measly 18 minutes, where is the justice in this world I ask?

PS I hate golf and they spent twelve hours a day on that   - So do I. In fact I hate sport of any kind - but the golf had its compensations - cos he disappeared to watch the telly in another room all last week - so I was able to watch whatever I wanted smiley - biggrin.

    Hi Frank,

Don't know where you got the idea I was being interviewed - not this year.

I do love Tatton Show - it's spacious, friendly and not in the least bit pretentious. And nice though it is to get a bit of TV coverage for the garden, the appreciative comments from visitors make the effort totally worthwhile regardless. Though the media focus seems to be on innovation, 'stories' and edgy creativity, I shall definitely continue to make a point of creating 'real' gardens. It's what most visitors want - to see something beautiful, with workable ideas they can take away for their own gardens, whether it's TV-worthy or not!

Next year's garden is firmly in the melting pot....

Ah - I get it. I had a good chat to Gilly Brennan, now the Beeb's online horticultural reasearcher and chief blogger. We first met when she was part of the team that filmed me here at Bluebell Cottage Gardens a couple of years ago. It was nice to catch up, Gilly! Here's the article.

    Hello Trillium,
It was Phyll host bandying it about after his wet visit to Tatton.
He did call you "Our very own Trillium" does that mean you are now possessed "err" by Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú I mean not some supernatural thingee.
I have been once to Tatton and it is as you say a gardeners and none gardeners show, what you see is what you get unlike some of the shows.
My moan was the off site interviews which if done in a separate program would be great but to take time out of two very short visits to Tatton got my ire up.
I would have enjoyed seeing your garden but it was not to be, oh well another year.
Good luck with your next project.
    Frank.
