What do you think of the ever so controversial 30 minute fix... love it or loathe it.

Personally, I LOVE the concept of it, but hate the actual product of it.

I think it could be a really good feature, but only if it focused more on simple, garden related tasks rather than comples, time consuming design/creative tasks that would usually take over 30 minutes.

    What are your views?

    Sam,
Why not do a blue Peter and make it or the bits then produce the "one I did earlier" it took me 50 minutes.
Most of the things would never be allowed through my gates especially that rabbit hutch and shaky shed roof garden.
Scrap it and plant something properly I say.
    Frank.

    Hi Frank,

I suppose if it was a rather simple idea, like it started off as then it is easy to do.. making a nice planter for easter is a job that can be done well in 30 minutes... but making a solid bamboo gate can't be done well in 30 minutes.

Why dont they use the 30 minute fix to take things back to basics... E.G - Cut lawn edges, shape plants, clean patios or make a planter. These jobs to transform gardens and can be achived in 30 minutes (Well in the average garden)

    Sam,
Apart from the fact I would not want a bamboo gate, think of it as a happy home for earwigs to come out at night and eat your Dahlia's, I think the time could be better spent.
How about a whats wrong time where viewers could send in questions as they do on here.
How do I do this, again how many times are we asked about weeds in lawns, can we move this or that now or later?
Why has my lily gone purple and started eating my cabbages?
One or two prepared answers a programme and we would all be interested.
Oh well we can hope but GW is much improved.
    Frank.

Good idea Frank. We could send in questions and they'd pick out the most interesting.......or would they. Sam. I don't want to see edging lawns etc. I know you're a beginner but you could probably watch a video of AT doing things like that. I want to hear of new things or new ways of doing garden jobs.
For instance they could discuss the likeliness of Penstemons overwintering. I don't personally like exotics and think they look out of place amongst the Welsh hills but I put up with them when they're on.

As this weeks example showed waste of air time, that could haved been put to better use. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú have lost the plot. Pardon the pun...!

Why don't they make one of these in the 30 min make over?

I agree with you all - a complete waste of time, I love the idea of having a question time - even if they just looked on this site and pulled a few questions from that it would be so much better.

On a lighter note the 30min fix is quoted often in this house we try and apply it to all chores !!.

I think the last few minutes of the programme could and should be much better spent. It's Friday night, the gardening weekend starts tomorrow and what we should get is up-to-the- minute tips and inspiration. It's not the right spot for relatively fiddly DIY jobs.

I've no problem with the programme including a money saving 'Garden DIY' spot - with a project summary, what you need, some key tips, and a 'here's one we made earlier'. Full step by step stuff on line or in the GW mag.
