GW used to be good. Now it's absolute rubbish.

Geoff and Monty used to talk about plants and enthuse about vegetables and show us different ways designing gardens. Geoff even showed us Barnsdale and how it evolved.

Now we get trendy gardening ideas which lack substance. A gardening area which seems to have more bricks, doors and windows than soil and plants. We get gardeners with hair styles more suitable for teenagers and spectacles more suitable for Dame Edna.

The only thing to do is to vote with your feet. It's a pity though because the bloke is quite good (not J Swift)just add Chris Beardshaw and you might have a programme.

I don't watch it anymore. It really pains me to do so.

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will know very soon by the rating figures but by then we'll be so used to being without it we won't come back.

    Oh no
The rot started with him and no way do you want him back, however bad this bunch are.
I also note he has had the same effect on the soil association, sale of organic food is down, could this just be a coincidence?
A bit like king midas in reverse, everything he touches turns brown (Gordon)

On last weeks GW Toby was doing something in the Greenacres garden - the garden looked quite nice and full of flowers but we viewers have never had an opportunity to see this development from bare earth to flower filled borders - thus we have nothing 'invested' in it - I watched it with detachment but as I said on a previous thread I enjoyed it more than the previous ones - I agree with RowanCottage though - I just can't take to poor Toby at all - if he says 'just tickle the roots' one more time I'll throw my cup through the tele!!!! smiley - grr

Well I like Toby, he's young and refreshing, and along with Joe I am now enjoying GW again. As much as I like Monty as a person, I was bored to tears watching GW when he was on and I stopped watching it, all that vege growing was a right turn-off!! Each to their own, I know!!

I like Toby too, and all the current presenters. Haven't seen enough of Alys recently for my liking - I loved the teacup bulb pressies, had a go myself and they're doing great!

I like Monty too though - "My Roots" is probably my favourite gardening book.

I can't really think of any "celebrity" gardeners that I don't like. I'm not too into the really pretentious arty 'gardening' like you see at Chelsea, but each to their own!

I stopped watching GW six months ago. I have nothing against the presenters although I prefered Alan Tichmarsh as for me he certainly is a better communicator.

The problem for me was the rubbish format of the show. I can only assume looking at the forum that they are still plodding in with the same format while the viewing figures plummet- Is that the case?

I would like to see GW go 'back to basics' and deal with real gardening issues and not the flim-flam they were presenting when I last watched the show.

I would like to see a show with well defined sections. A few ideas that I would like to see included:
-What you should be doing in the garden now
-Dealing with Pests/Disease and other plant problems
-New Gardening Developments- New technology, newly introduced seeds and plants, new techniques etc.
-Q and A slot- Althouth this may clash with Gardeners Question Time I feel that certain items on GQT would be better on TV, such as when a member of public shows the panel a plant sample.

    thanks

    An ex-GW fan.
