Rumour (and the Daily Mail) has it that we may see a return of our beloved Mr T to Gardener's World next year.
This may make a few dreams come true!
Morning
They mentioned it on Radio 2 this morning as well, that would be absolutely fantastic if he was to return and I would definitely be going back to watching GW on a Friday if he does. Lets hope its not just rumours.

I have no personal dislike of the other presenters - it's just that I think Alan has it all - and to return to Gardeners' World would be great. I have missed him...he's my favourite.
I agree, I liked Monty as thats about the time I really got into Gardening, but as you said Alan has it all. I met him at GW live a couple of years ago and he was nice enough to sign a book and a magazine for me, and to have a quick chat, hes such a nice bloke and I think he and his way of gardening has been greatly missed.

I haven't posted here in simply ages, mostly because I completely lost interest in Gardener's World after Mr. T left. Haven't watched it but for a couple times since his departure, completely unbowled over by Monty Don or this new Toby fellow or their minions. But the return of Mr. T???? Now THAT would get me watching again. Do you think he would film GW at his new garden? It would be wonderful to see what he has done there. In any case, here's hoping! cheers, Bonnie
With all his other commitments I can't see him returning to GW on a permanent basis. He may do guest appearances and I doubt very much if he will ever let his own garden be featured. Will be good to see back though!

...and if we could have Chris Beardshaw as well...
Now, now Doris, don't be greedy!

No harm in trying...you never know...

I didn't know he moved, when did this happen?
Alan is one of my favourite past presenters on gardeners world. He had a way of explaining things for beginners to understand and at the same time not make the more experienced gardeners out there feel patronised.
That daytime chat show he does at the moment is simply terrible. Watching them having a biased 5 minute discussion on creation vs evolution with a bunch of people for creationism was horrible to watch.
Oh how fickle are the viewing public of GW!
I love Alan Tichmarsh and will watch him no matter what but I have to say I have been really impressed with Toby.
He has taken a barren wasteground and turned it into a garden using things he has scrounged and made himself just like the much missed Geoff Hamilton did.
Joe drives me to distration so he can go. The girls atleast show enthusisim(sp?).
The dream team would be Alan, Chris Beardshaw and Toby.... Still I suppose I can dream!!
At last! Back to a gardener with charisma (we won't mention his daytime "show" - totally the wrong vehicle for him), humour and a way of imparting knowledge that makes me sit up and listen.
Gardeners World desperately needs him to come back permanently.
Toby et al can then watch a master at work who makes it look easy. A true professional.

Re Message 10.
Alan moved ( about 2 miles up the road ) just after he left GW. He said he thought he had "one more garden in him" but that he wanted it to be a completely private garden and it has never ( yet ) been featured in any tv programme or magazine photoshoot, although he does give updates sometimes in magazine articles.
This talk of the return of Mr T is making us feel quite unwell. Toby is doing a fantastic job; his fresh appraoch and down-to-earth schemes mark him as a real gardener whereas Mr T rarely got his hands dirty. we stopped watching GW for a while until toby replaced mr T. We also like Joe Swift
He has taken a barren wasteground and turned it into a garden using things he has scrounged and made himself just like the much missed Geoff Hamilton did.Â
Wish I could have scrounged a garden and the gardeners to put it in place.
(don't think Toby did it all on his own)
I feel just as you do, Jandig, and agree with all you say. Enjoyed Geoff and Monty and like Toby very much. If AT appears on our TV screeen everyone dives for the remote control.

I've never enjoied GW as much as when watching re runs of when Geoff Hamilton then AT did it. I will be watching to see how the talks pan out. imho this has been the worst series ever.
I'm sure it wouldn't be beyond the whit of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to create 2 gardening shows - one aimed at the 'younger' audience who enjoy the presentation of the current GW and the other for the 'older' audience bought up on AT and MD.
I wonder if we should suggest to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú the content as well !

It would appear that rumours of Toby Buckland's demise may be premature.
The latest word on the street is that AT is in talks with the Beeb to present a different gardening programme not Gardeners World.
Would also be happy to see two different shows. This was something else I predicted might have to happen and I still think it could be a graceful way out for the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú after whats happened to GW.
I gave the new format and Toby Buckland as main presenter a year. Would be greatly relieved to see the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú act on the wealth of critisism and change for the better again.
Alan Titchmarsh wouldnt be my dream choice to head up the programme and I actually stopped watching before when he was at the helm. However, things have been so dire this time that I'd welcome him back, as at least things would improve.
Carol Klein would still be my favourite to lead the programme as she did it so very well last year when Monty left suddenly. She has the knowledge and quite clearly loves showing people how to garden.

Well I would really miss Toby, I think they are a great team together, and I'm not only learning a lot, but laughing too, and let's face it on a Friday night, that is so important. Even my children like watching it, and they are the future gardeners. He is inspiring and current and I will be switching right off if AT comes back. The allotments are full of people my age (40 ish.....), and having somebody with a sense of humour that we can relate to is so important.
Yep. Thats fine by me. I'm only 51 myself, so not that different from you in age. Lust after any programme on gardening normally and thats why I think two programmes would iron out the creases. I would say you cant garden without humour and to be fair, its always been a part of GW. For me its just a bit scripted in the new format and subjects arent given enough time. Therefore I would welcome an alternative which didnt rely so much on image.
Happy Gardening whatever kind of programme you prefer and I think its great that your kids are enjoying it.
What utterly dreadful news!!! I really do hope that this is NOT true and it is just a horrid rumor...
I think that Toby is a fantastic presenter. I throughly enjoy sitting down on a Friday night, kids in bed, glass of wine in hand to watch GW. As a relative newcomer to this gardening malarky I find Toby and the team engaging, informative and it makes me what to get out in to my garden - something I've never really done before!
I completely support Toby, please don't bring back Alan Titchmarsh, he has had his day on GW, let him carry on presenting that awful chat show!

It would be nice to see AT back in some format as I've not really enjoyed watching TB so much. There again it may be the producers fault on the way he comes across on the program rather than the man himself. I've met TB and had a chat, he's a really nice guy and sometimes I feel as though he needs more of a chance with maybe a revised format of GW before we dismiss him totally.
Looks like the Mail got it wrong:
My daughter may get the chance to meet him in the flesh.
She works for a well known bookshop,AT is doing his thing locally,so the shop is invited to bring books along to sell.
Seems to depend if the manager thinks it's a worthwhile(can make profit from)deal or not.
wonderful, fantastic, brilliant news. I can hardly wait.

Fantastic news!
I was forced to turn off gardeners after the 3rd episode this season due to the unbearable dumbing down of the programme and have not watched it since!
I have also not been on these boards since but after hearing radio two this morning I will watch these boards with excited anticipation!!
In general I don't think one should go back in a career.
On the employer's part it looks like they can't think of anything more original to do, and from the employee's point of view, the only way is down if your reputation is stellar from the start.
On the "final"? GW AT episode where the presenters all planted their favourite trees in Alan's woodland glade there was a broad hint that there would be return at some time in the future to see how this will develop and mature.
Excellent start point to get AT back to GW if he wants and I for one would not object to a triple handed AT, TB and AF GW with JS and CK reassigned to other areas of the media world eg light entertainment and costume drama

I think he sold the house where they filmed GW and relocated? So it is in someone else's hands now.
AT is probably the only person who could save GW from this debarcle

Although he did sell his house, apparently he only moved a couple of miles away and he hung onto the woodland that he'd planted, as it was detached from the main garden.
I just hope the new programme is about gardening in general and not just wildlife or veg!
