Just to let you all know episode 2 is on tonight at 8pm on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2.
I went out last Wednesday night, and missed episode 1. I just watched it earlier and I really enjoyed it, I fnd it a refreshing and very innocent show. I love Aly's ethics and passion for gardening, I can't wait for episode 2.
And for more information and to read Alys's thoughts on each programme please visit the website (.
I'm not sure if it's just me Saimma but it say's the link doesn't work.

I was not impressed last week - but decided to watch again to give it a fair assessment.
Sorry - light on information. Silly presentation. Daft graphics.
Can't find a box to tick, actually.
PHJ
seems to be a programme about her lifestyle
It was the first time we have watched Alys' programme and we thought it was very good and a delightful programme to watch.
She came across very natural to the camera we thought and was clear and easy to understand.
Well done Alys! A great little gardening show.
I like this series so far - no angst, no conflicting personalities and just a good time....
Sorry everyone, please try this link
Another great show, it's perfect midweek viewing. I loved Alys greenhouse she made, it was so quirky. If I wasn't going to university next year I would build one for my garden, but I don't suppose it's worth it seeing I will have no garden
Luckily my Tom's didn't all get blight last year, I found a tip of spreading the around. I had some in baskets on one side of the house, some in pots on the other side of the house, some in the soil in my garden and a few pots down the vegetable garden. Luckily only those in the veg garden got hit, and the others lived another day!
Her lettuces looked nice, and I am going to try and find something similar for my cucumbers.
Overall, great show!

I enjoyed this weeks program more. Its a bit arty zany and unusual. But i just like it it makes me smile and remember being much younger and living my life as i wanted. At least it was not boring.
I really enjoyed tonight's programme too. I love the style of it which is similar to the book which I've also really enjoyed. I can understand that it would not be to everyone's taste because of all the little touches. I know it doesn't give loads in the way of practical advice but there are enough tips and ideas to keep me happy and I really like the can do/give it a try and see attitude of Alys and her garden. Reading the book and watching the programme has reminded me not to take my garden so seriously and to really think about combining flowers and veg more as I love growing both but only have a small garden.
I have enjoyed the first two episodes and was wondering about getting the book. I have got so many gardening books already!!
Even though there isn't a great deal of technical advice, it is inspiring and made me want to grow lots more veg.
Hi KG,
There is more growing advice in the book but if you have lots of gardening books you'll have most of that info already. But like the programme it's quirky and I have found it quite inspiring and have loved dipping into it. It's not a typical gardening book by any means but like you, I have plenty of those. It has a few unusual recipes at the back which I don't think I'd try but maybe by the summer when I have loads and loads of veg (here's hoping) I'll be looking for unusual ways to cook it.

Hi there,
I enjoyed this one too - I've stopped looking to it to give in depth gardening info and looked on it as the lifestyle programme it is. Must say I feel that Alys looks more relaxed away from her GW slot and she is coming across well. She looks happy in her skin and I warmed to her this week - good girl

I too enjoyed this one much more than last weeks a lot more informative and useful.
Hi,
Just like to add my happy thoughts, I too enjoyed the programme, it does make you smile, I love the arty look to it and bringing friends and neighbours into the programme makes it a little more interesting. Those recipe where certainly different, I liked those wine boxes, I’d like some of those for my garden. I might try and hunt some down.
I also like the fact that I think I know where its set and it not for once all about London, so that a plus point for me, I’ve put Ayls book on my birthday list.
Regards

I watched this for the first time last night and loved it. Even want to try the dandelion fritters!! I thought it was informative without getting to caught up in the "right" way to do things which definately appeals to me as i'm always worrying that am not doing it the "right" way and this reminds me to be more relaxed.
I agree about The Edible Garden. Thanks Alys for your enthusiasm. You've inspired me to grow a few more things in pots. I already do potatoes, French beans and tomatoes in hanging baskets. They seem fairly blight resistant too.
On purpose, I have not read what other posters think of Alys' new programme 'The Edible Garden' before posting as I want to write what I thought of it without being influenced by others.
And what a really lovely programme it was!
I unfortunately missed the first episode and having seen the second, I regret missing it all the more. I very much like her approach, nothing too difficult, everything appearing attainable by just about anyone who can get their hands on a patch of earth or even a winebox and some compost. Alys demonstrated a very relaxed approach and I'm sure it will have potential veg growers in their 000s heading off to buy a packet of seeds.
A lovely, relaxed programme where I feel Alys has done brilliantly.
Well done you!!
Having now read the comments on this thread, I needn't have worried about being influenced by negative impressions. What a nice change to see so many positive comments. Alys' new programme has many fans on the food chat board too.
I think it depends on your expectations. As a gardening programme I think it is light weight and leaves a lot to be desired, as a lifestyle, general interest, easy watching programme meets the label on the tin. In either case what the poor, ill defined filming and white flashes are supposed to aid the programme I am at a total loss. In the days of HD where clarity is getting better, I know EG is not HD, seems nonsense to degrade the quality of the pictures just to achieve a fuzzy, old world look-baffling.
A very relaxing programme to watch. A true eccentric, but I wouldn't want to eat so many leaves.

I wasn't sure that this series was for me after watching the first one but I will give it another go after reading this thread. I have to say that the ideas stick in your head from these programmes as I am now thinking of growing veg intermingled with my flower borders as I have limited space to grow it otherwise.
I watched episode 2 and and as I had missed episode 1 watched it yesterday on Iplayer. Both programms were very enjoyable and the nformation excellent for those who have a small garden and would like to grow veg/ salads inbetween the flowers. I had a go at building the screen for my peas to scramble up and was quite please with the results, I use bamboo canes I had brought from the 99p shop and Phormium leaves to bind them together as Alys had done, and it work beautifully. Like the idea of getting some chickens, but may have to run this pass the husband first.
I liked Ayls wine boxes, which she said she salvaged from a local off-licence - well - I spent a good bit of time on saturday, trying to find some but had no luck, supermarkets only have cardboard boxes, and we have no independent wine shops in our area - I think there was a poster on here who said they where a friend of Alys, would they be able to help with a bit of advice for me? (I don't live that far away) I could go on the internet a buy some but that would be against that fact that I want to recyle them to grow salads.
regards

Agree that episode 2 was much better than episode 1. I admire Alys for being her own woman, having her own style and creating a garden that is organised chaos.
I love Alys's new series. It is true that it is a life style programme but that suits me fine!
I admire her individuality, it is refreshing in today's world.
