Hi all
A quick reminder that Gardeners’ World is on air tonight on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 at 8.30pm and at 9.30pm on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 Wales.
On tonight’s programme Toby will be planting climbers for North, South, East, and West facing boundaries; Carol has a look at the surprisingly diverse Brassica family and Joe digs deep for his pond, in his back garden.
Looking forward to it ( unless there's too much veg )
SparklyTwirler
since carol will be talking a lot about Brassica family which are vegetables i guess you should miss the program.
I just hope I can stay awake this week
Not seen one from start to finish this season, must give up working 24/7
I watched it. Not too bad, I am only really interested in growing veg and being creative.
At least now I know to sow parsnips.
You can always watch it on the bbc iplayer if its on too late for you
Plenty of good content, remarkably low key style, especially from Toby who's voice has quite noticeably modulated to a low murmur in recent weeks.
The only eyebrow raising moment was the Golden Hop - Humulus lupulus 'Aureus' against the lovely hazel trellis. This plant twines tightly and grows miles in one year, then dies back to ground level in winter. It will be a complete nightmare to get the previous year's growth out of the trellis and it will look terrible if they don't. And the dead stems are horribly bristly to handle. Not a good option, I think.
Re the Apricot, well I hope he still had the pull down fleece contraption in place to protect the blossom, as we're having nightly frosts at the moment here in Cheshire. And if they do fleece it, they should tell us.... I still think the fruit won't ripen properly on a north-east facing wall, but credit to GW for following up - it's good to see that practice in place.
My wonderful plum tree is two weeks late flowering, not because of aspect, but simply continuing low night time temperatures. I just hope it holds on another week to avoid this chilly spell, but I fear it can't hang on much longer. The daytime sunshine is luring it on.
Like you Trillium, I'm watching my plum tree with some trepidation. I reckon that it will come into flower within the next few days and then, the cold weather will return with a frost which will wipe out the fruit for another year. I was hoping that the cold winter would curb its exuberance.

Mines out in flower and the bees are loving it - guess any frosts will be a problem though..... :0(
For the 1st time, I really warmed to Toby tonight, I liked his style, has he changed it? it was like he was talking to grown ups. or is it just taking me a long time to get used to a new presenter.
Morning MissPolly - nope, I agree with you - I found him different altogether tonight as well - more comfortable with himself and conversational - no 'blokey' banter with Joe just interesting snippets and I liked him more - keep it up - now all we need is a wee bit in there for more experienced gardeners and we might all be happier.
