    Hi all
Gardeners' World is on air tonight at 8.30pm on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 and at 9.30pm on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 Wales. Tonight Toby is getting to grips with expanding the prairie border for free. Alys is sowing seeds to produce foliage plants in the cutting garden and Carol takes a close look at the Boraginaceae family.

D'you know what? I really enjoyed it!

There were bits of information that I didn't know, and bits that I did (but worth repetition, especially for those new to the gardening game) and an overall entertaining and informative programme.

The tulips were stunning - and good close-up pictures of them. (Nit picking - not sure of the blooming times of them, which would have been helpful).

But - yes, a gardening programme that I will be sure to tune into again. (But not next week, apparently. Why not?)

At a guess, I'd say it's because of the snooker

I suppose it's a sign of how much improved GW is this year, that there are so few comments about it now (compared to last year). Unfortunately there are precious few compliments forthcoming, but I think the program makers will just be thankful that the stream of criticism has ceased for the time being.

In truth, it still isn't the 'must see' for me of yesteryear, but it's still more than watchable. Toby may just shake of the 'ice cream van' image in time, and Carol makes a valuable contribution from her own garden. Alys and Joe remain pretty weak, but thankfully their contributions are relatively small. Toby has learned how to speak to the viewer in a half-way intimate fashion, whereas Alys remains a squawker who hasn't yet mastered the art of intimacy with her audience. I know that she has her fans, but it really would be for the best if she was to concentrate on her other downmarket stuff, and leave GW to the real professionals.

It's hard to fully understand why the programme is cancelled next friday (for snooker), when clearly it could be easily shown at a different time, or a different day. It does seem like a limp excuse to miss a week, and Toby curiously didn't even try to explain this blip. Perhaps he knows there really is no good reason for skipping the programme next week.

It said in the programme desciption that Alys was going to be planting peonies. Am I the only one who missed this?

    Ken,
I wrote a posting agreeing with you on this with some reasoning as to why these boards are but a shadow of what they once were.
It would appear this is not allowed under the stringent rules.
I think I have lived too long I do not like this new censoring or not being able to make relevant comments.
No point in reading the boards then.
    Frank

Never say you have lived too long, Frank.
I've no idea what you said or why it was deleted - but at the end of the day, it's just someone elses opinion after all.
I'd much rather people had a punch up on the boards than do it in real life, wouldn't you agree?

    Nooj,
There are times I think it, we read the boards and if roused make comment. The only way the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will get to know what we all think is by allowing some leeway in how and where we make those comments.
If we are to be censored by people who think they are in a position to do so and use their own opinions to uphold such censorship then this world is not the world we fought long and hard for.
If they wish for comment on programmes then it should be a general discussion within the rules of how we would address such things within a civilised society and not by rules drawn up by over paid Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú lawyers with our money.
If they wish to close the board then tell us but whilst they are open expect to take both good and bad criticism.
Thank you Nooj for your comments which will probably be thrown out with this one.
    Frank.

    Oops right, back on topic.
I'm really enjoying the few gardening programmes we have - I think Alys is a breath of fresh air
and the country is currently over-run with pea shoots - which I - naturally have grown for a while!!!!!
Something good to munch while you are gardening as well

Sorry Nooj, I turned the sound off last night and got the laptop out until nine and change of programme. Something about her voice grates for me.
GW has improved beyond measure though already they are starting to miss some Fridays. It would seem gardeners are the poor relation when it comes to planning for the week, I was once interested in snooker but as with all things they over did it.
Wonder what A.T's new seasons programme will be like Oops wrong side, sooorrry.smiley - doh

Never mind the voice - the content?
Anyway, I don't find anything wrong with her voice.
What about the little dog helping her?
I could understand if you prefer not to watch because of that.

    Ken,

I'm afraid I didn't catch it Frank, and can't imagine that it would justify being 'modded'. I understand your current frustration, but would remind you that many of the folks who used to make good contributions to the Board, have just naturally drifted away over the years. I suppose we all get repetitive, and hesitate to keep saying the same things week-in, week-out. I almost feel obliged to say a few kind things about GW, after all the critical remarks I've made over the last period. It's better now that TB is hogging most of the programme, and leaving the rest of the cast to supply just a few minutes each of padding. However, I now regard 'The Beechgrove Garden' as my favourite programme - though they alway have their 'community' away-days, which are not quite so appealing to me. Anyway Frank, don't get lost forever - have a regular look-in to see who's saying what about who, and continue giving us your own opinions.

Oh, dear Frank! Modded again! I've no idea why - but it is very much a reflection of the constraints of the board.

However, I have read your contributions and others and have been drawn back to posting my own thoughts and what I like to think of as help to others.

It may not be as vibrant as we once knew. But it is also far less vitriolic (as it could be) as it once was.

So - your experience is valued. I would like to think so is mine. I like to read and to catch up with other posts. I would be sad not to see you gliding round the dancefloor of the gardens!

I agree, why does GW always suffer for the sake of other programmes. I really really look forward to Friday evenings with GW and a glass of wine, although wish it was on for an hour. Toby's really getting into the role now, I watched last year and just wished for him to settle in and make it his own...he has now! and Carol's always a voice of comforting excellence. I have watched the programme since a littl'un with my dad, so have watched every presenter come and go since Percy...really loving this series. Every couple of years I subscribe to the GW magazine to catch up various tips and new plants etc...its such a good source of inspiration, plus I have bought some excellent plants at bargain prices. To top it all, Im off to GW on 17th, cant wait, I've been saving my pennies to treat myself to something good...bliss!!!!
