Another great episode, although I missed a few bits so will have to catch up on the iPlayer. I wish my rasberry canes didn't all suffer... is it to late to plant more out now?
Only 2 episodes left
I hope we get another series by Alys, or the repeat Carol's 'Grow Your Own Veg' from a while ago.
I really enjoyed this program. Such a relaxing 30 mins in the middle of the week. So many interesting ideas and recipes. Its the most interesting program on at the moment. At least it gets you away from politics and voting.
This is my favourite program at the moment. I have been watching it again on the i-player (good old i-player). It is good that this is a real garden so everything is not perfect. She admitted to her blackcurrant mistake and relishes the successes. I was interested in the plant/fabric thing and would like to try it out for myself.
I bought her book at the weekend and am enjoying that too.
I was taken by Alys's idea of putting a handful of pine needles in with the blueberries (?) to help keepthe compost acid.Has anyone else tried this? It could be the way forward re using peat-free compost. Wonder if there has been any research done, or do the pine needles contain resin? I can remember going to the Henry Doubleday place at Ryton many moons ago and they were using crushed pine-cones as a mulch on an acid bed. I think it was experimental at the time.
All my acid plants grow very well under my pine tree. I have removed all the lower branches so i can plant more plants and they get a good mulch each year. They all seem to like it.
