Hi all
a quick reminder that Gardeners' World is on air tomorrow night on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 at 8.30pm. Toby will be giving you the low down on how to make garden compost in double quick time, while Joe visits an allotment site in Birmingham to find out how seasoned allotmenteers deal with their weeds. The asparagus family comes under the spotlight in Carol’s garden in Devon, while Toby and Joe get to grips with Greenacre’s new bog garden.
That sounds good.....
Enjoyed the programme tonight but so disappointed that they didn't mention "Gardening Scotland 2010" which is on at Edinburgh this weekend. The "Beechgrove Team" are all there doing their stuff so a wee advert for the biggest flower show in Scotland and for a bbc tv show would have been good.
A decent enough programme. Toby's become acceptable as host, and Carol is well suited to her segment on the various species - but Joe (and Alys) should never have made it onto this flagship programme. They simply don't have the knowledge or the presentational skills for the job.
After the dire Chelsea extravaganza, it was good to see someone down on their knees actually doing a bit of real gardening again. The Beechgrove also had an 'away day' this week at the Scottish Garden Show, and once again the bulk of a gardening show was spent listening to 'designers' explain the silly names and subliminal messages of their little efforts. It's hard not to laugh at times.

I agree. The twaddle they were spewing about the design inspiration for their gardens was cringe worthy.
I noticed Toby launched his trowel harpoon style into the soil again last night. Just another example of his slap dash approach and a pretty dangerous habit he needs to redress.
Was it just me? I found watching half the contributions through a blue haze of out of focus flowers very distracting.
I found watching half the contributions through a blue haze of out of focus flowers very distracting..Â
.....no you are right on GW got to give total freedom for artistic direction, dodgy camerawork, new technological trickery etc etc at every opportunity to distract as much as possible from the topic or detail of what being described. Surely you realize this we are just the poor viewer-must keep production team happy and satisfied first.
Suggest, if you can, tune into Beechgrove Garden on Scottish Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 2 -clear concise information assisted by clear concise and in focus camera work.
i must admit , i did laugh when i saw toby launch the trowel into the air- i knew someone here would mention it (quite right, too )
LOL at Joe revisiting weeds on allotments, utter;y shameless after he rotovated his and chopped all the roots into pieces.
Have they mentioned th apricot tree yet? I've missed a few episodes of GW.
I remember there was a veeeeerrrry long thread about that apricot plantewd on an east facing wall, I really would like to know if it did flower and set fruit well...........or didn't it survive the winter?
yes- toby took a look at the apricot a couple of weeks ago, stating that the flowers/buds were in great condition due to the planting aspect.
As I sat through last week's informative, down-to-earth and enjoyable programme, I couldn't help but thinking how far GW has come since last year's fiasco.
Once again GW is a programme to look forward to and as I was very vocal in voicing my criticism last year, I feel I should write in praise of it when things are good.
Well done to all concerned.
Just caught up with it on 'catch up' and enjoyed it. Noticed Toby's javelin through of his trowel which made me titter having seen the earlier posts about it on here - thought he had a good aim.
