Hi all
A quick reminder that Gardeners' World is on air tonight on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 at 8.30pm. On tonight's programme Toby will be replacing the bedding at Greenacre, Alys will be planting classic autumnal blooms in the cutting garden, and Carol will be celebrating the glory of the humble cow parsley. The team will also be revealing an insiders look at sumptuous Great Dixter. -

A fine state of affairs when there is a embarrassing paucity of responses relating to the nation's favourite gardening programme. It was again a decent enough programme, with Toby sticking to subjects which are relevant and fairly 'safe'. Alys continues to shout a bit, and is increasingly determined to get as many adjectives into a sentence as possible. I would advise the girl to get rid of these awful glasses, as it makes her look like she's wearing a mask.
Next week it's the annual GW jingbang, with some sickly participation (tell us your story) gimmick thrown in to lower the tone a bit. However, of greater importance is the news that after the roadshow, they're off the air for 4 weeks. Just what a programme which is trying hard to re-establish itself needs. Do they never learn - or do the presenters need a bit of time off to concentrate on their latest commercial enterprise. It didn't make it clear whether there are substitute programmes lined up to fill the slot, but it just seems remarkable that they can't string a series together for a season without these gaps. This would have been the ideal time to try a low-budget 'garden shed' style of programme - but no, sweet Fanny Adams. Thank goodness for the Beechgrove. -

Hello Ken. I suspect there will be no substitutes and that GW will simply be off air for the football and tennis. So tedious and unimaginative of the Beeb.
There are millions of viewers who would love to escape the fotball and tennis and quite a lot of them are gardeners. It beggars belief that they'd shelve the show at this time of year no matter what was happening and I really do fail to see why 30 minutes of gardening is so difficult to schedule at any time of year. -

I totally agree with you - I am disappointed that GW is, yet again, pushed to one side to accommodate something else - there just doesn't seem to be any commitment from the Beeb towards us gardeners at all - GW has improved but I feel it still could develop further - (sigh) -

The piece about Great Dixter was the best for me.
Whilst Toby Buckland is off air after GW Live (ugh) next week he said we'll be having RHS Wisley experts to give us their top tips for the next four weeks.
I'm sure we'll learn more from them and be inspired at last. With a bit of luck they'll be so good and replace the present GW format permanently. -

Pete-Free, I think the reference to the RHS experts was the next sequence in which they visited Wisley and experts gave advice. I don't think there's a future programme to look forward to during the break.

I do love Tennis and I know football's important to some people (my hubby) but like a lot of posters, I don't see why the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú can't find a 1/2 hour spot for GW, they can find plenty of room for badly made reality shows, or I am confusing it with ITV - rant over

Having only started to read the message boards last year, it seems to me that people only want to 'put pen to paper' when they are annoyed about something. When they are happier with things (and the general consenus of opinion would suggest they are), it appears they are content to just watch - myself included. "Beggars Belief" is showing extreme patience, tolerance and understanding on your part Obelixx in as much that AGAIN at one of the busiest times in the garden ie cropping, autumn sowing, pests and diseases etc etc the "flagship" gardening programme is missing!!!
. Almost as unforgivable as missing the just as important seed sowing, soil preparation etc time in the Spring. There is obviously no understanding on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's part for the topicality of what is needed 
and the relevance of seasonality, varying weather conditions etc. it is treated as yet another drama or soap episode scheduling option-pathetic. -

.... and I've just written that (IMO) things have improved !
So this week we get the awful GWL (a complete waste of time) and then a whole 4 weeks of nothing
Not on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú - how come other channels, not least of which is Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland, manage to schedule a seasonal programme throughout the relevant season ? Why not remove the middle weeks of Wimbledon or the world cup while you're at it ? -

maybe they think that if they mess us around we will just forget all about it and it will disappear - I wouldn't find this prospect as heartbreaking now as I would have a few years ago as I've lost the 'must see' factor but, still, it would be a shame if it went altogether - so I will try to remember to watch it when it returns

I reached that stage quite a while ago and rarely associate Friday night with gardening these days.
