    Toby & Alys,

I just want to thank you for all your help over the last few seasons on Gardeners' World. We sit here up in Norway where conditions are somewhat challenging and they do not have anything like Gardeners' world and you and the rest of the team have helped in many projects and given us many new ideas.

I'm sure you'll be back on our screens soon.

    Thanks for all the advice,
    from we in Norway.

Although he wasn't everybody's cup of tea, I liked Toby and his down-to-earth approach, a bit like the one and only Geoff Hamilton.

I liked Toby as well, I liked the gentleness he had. Till he threw down his tools. Sorry to say Alys did get on my nerves. and Joe, well ,..enough said. ,..me thinks. Mo.

I too am disappointed by Tony's departure and even more so by the personal attacks on presenters and references to "impediments" etc. in other threads.I wonder how long the honeymoon will last for Monty. Those exulting in a man losing his employment should be careful what they wish for.

Sadly Toby was a boy trying to fill a man's shoes. Both Toby and Monty Dull have one major flaw, lack of charisma. The only person recently who has made GW look effortless and easy was Alan T, as he does with every gardening programme he hosts. Its not something you can train someone to have, you either have it or you don't.
To be honest I felt sorry for Toby because he looked like a man who had a job that he knew he couldn't do. He will make a good living for a few years on the back of being the front man on GW.
The Monty honeymoon won't last long, I still think he went last time because the game was up and the idea cupboard was well and truly empty.

Rowan I think I would really enjoy your company on a plant hunting trip because I love an amicable argument and I disagree with much you have said and yet I reckon from previous postings that you are a serious gardener and like a debate.I last replied to you some time ago under a thread started by Welshcol re 30 July programme message 45 and Ihope you read it.I think Toby was growing into the job and was really knowledgeable. I do not pretend to be a professional horticulturalist but I am friendly with many who are and I found that Toby often imparted details re propagation and cultivation that Ihad not heard before. As I said before I think the producers should let the presenters decide the content of the show.

I must admit I'm rather shocked and disappointed to hear the news Toby and Alys have "left" GW. I thought Toby was starting to come into his own after a shaky start to the new look show. I've warmed to his down to earth approach and he was (dare I say it) probably my second favourite presenter of the show after the late, great Geoff Hamilton.
I feel sorry for Toby and Alys and wish them well in whatever they both decide to do next.
They say in relationships that you should never go back and I guess time will tell if the same should be said for GW presenters!
