Please have a read of Ayls Fowler's horticultural blog - from what I read between the lines she is going thru a really tough time and could do with some support. I think she is a fantastic gardener, and she really inspires me. It is so nice to see someone on telly who doesn't look model perfect and is just into gardening, and convinces me that you don't need to be a middle aged man with a beard into real ale to be a real gardener - nothing wrong with that! Just not my thing!!
Anyway just thought I would try and direct more traffic to her blog about asparagus - read it and see if you agree with me that she could do with some supportive comments from the message board community.
Explains why she isn't on Gardener's World anyway. Shame about that.
love to all
Teresa
Where's the link please?

Totally agree PPP. I'm confused too. Who is H? Why won't he be around in 3 yrs time? What's any of it got to do with gardening? A really boring piece of writing I thought.Shan't bother to read any more of her twaddle. I think the H may be her husband. In a previous blog she stated that she was spending alot of time visiting him in hospital. I don't think it's looking hopeful but you never know. Not being around in 3 years time....says what it says really. I feel for her (and him obviously). And I don't think she writes twaddle, in fact quite the opposite, a very good writer in my eyes!!

I have read some crass and insensitive things on these message boards but this takes the biscuit.
Stomp all over the poor woman in your size 15 clodhoppers why don't you?

Why? It's supposed to be a gardening blog, not an autobiography!.
Her husband has cystic fibrosis.
We can only hope and pray that Alys doesn't read this message board
This is a gardening message board. Why 'hope and pray' is introduced is beyond me. It's dreadful that this person is suffering, but why nearest and dearest have to share their problems with the world is quite beyond me. We all have hellish problems to deal with, but have sufficient integrity not to burden others with them. This is why I never read 'blogs' - people seem compelled to spew out everything.
What a compassionate bunch of people you are.
My point entirely Ken. I didn't know, which is why I asked who H is and why he might not be around long. However, I still maintain it has nothing to do with horticulture, gardening, a gardening blog nor these message boards.
One's private life, triumphs and adversities should be just that.
Lowena, you are being unfair. I don't read blogs; just don't have the time. This message board is enough to cope with! But I don't think Alys is sharing much of her problems with us at all. I was intrigued by this thread so read Alys's blogs for this year and there is hardly any reference to her husband's illness apart from the time taken to visit hospital which means less time in the garden and, yes, the fact that growing a plant to eat in 3 years time and H saying he wouldn't be here was quite pertinent. Asparagus is a long term plant.
I agree Ken - don't read if you don't want, and particularly don't comment cruelly as the other poster has
This i9 a Gardening message board - not a let's see who can be most cruel competion.
Actually, mods - it would be a good idea to close this whole thread before anyone else gets hurt by some of the unpleasant messages
It's unbelievable how insensitive some people can be. Silly me, I thought gardening bought out the nuturing and caring side of a person.
