A few years ago GW many viewers were bemoaning the loss of AT. When Monty departed viewers bemoaned his loss and slagged off TB (not his fault that the show format was poor, but at least it showed a garden in the making). And now good old Monty is back and viewers are having a pop at his garden, with which few can identify with vis a vis their own garden. Are we so fickle, or is there something else going on?
I reckon the reason is to do with human nature. We are quick to get out the knives when there is something we don't like, but when it is something we like, most of us just watch and get on with our lives, so blogs and message boards are dominated by the opinions of Mr and Mrs Grumpy.
To paraphrase Edmond Burke: "For bad programming decisions to be made it is enough only that good men do nothing".

So, shall we make this a 'say something nice' thread? Reserved solely for positive comments about GW.

I shall start with the contents of Monty's shed, all of which I covet.

I object to being called Mr Grumpy. Gobby perhaps. Loved AT Loved some before. Did not like the finger wagging of Monty first time around VEG organic Burn the hereitic's who don't want to etc.
Never complained about TB but the poor gimmicks and silly 20 min fix. But grew to his warm style and good mix between the presenters Except Joe who seems pointless.. I give you MD is less finger wagging than before and has a nicely told shed. But the fact is I still maintain his garden is not the kind of space and style the means a lot to the average Gardener.
Now for something nice. I think Trillium is lovely!

Well, thank you KF, though most people who know me seem to think I'm a little rough and rugged for 'lovely'.

Today's nice comment - I adore Fritillaria imperialis. Here's one of mine - I love it.

And I really don't want to do this, I really don't. But please don't plant Euphorbia Fens Ruby. It's seriously invasive, you will come to hate it. It's on the problem eradication list in some areas of the US.

Monty's soil is to die for! Can't say the same for his box hedging, which looks if it's half dead already.

Thought he might have mentioned that care needs to be taken when cutting back euphorbia grifithii not to cut back stems without flower heads, which can be as tall as the ones with flower heads, but which will produce next year's flowers.

Good to see that he carried on pruning his trees till 9:30pm on Thursday even though it meant he had to leave the clearing up of the prunings till Friday. OH thinks he should have stopped at 8:30pm, tidied up, and then continued pruning again the next day, and then tidied up AGAIN!! OH tut tutted, while I kept saying 'see, that's what I do. Good old Monty'!

Beauty is in etc Trillium, and who could not be taken by such a talented plants person.. Fens Ruby is a terror But so is Fire Glow Monty's was up inside his hedge. I dug out mine years ago, and the damm thing still pops up here and there. But like the sweet woodruff I will beat it in time.

My Fire Glow has not prospered in five years - still just half a dozen shoots each year. It is in dry clay soil in full sun. I would like it to be a tad more invasive!

It's the "Fens Ruby" that drives me mad , as I've previously mentioned on the Garden Clinic. It seeds itself all over the garden including my gravel. I spend ages pulling it up! Never mind, Monty clearly doesn't know about it (though he will soon!) I love the programme in spite of occasional disagreements and hate all the criticisms. No one is perfect!
