I've been intrigued in the new series of Monty's 'Gardeners' World' by the yellow labrador that appears in each episode.
As the owner of a very similar creature, I can only marvel at the obedience and training of Monty's hound (apparently).
When we let our labrador/Breton spaniel cross loose in the garden, he decides to roll and dig in the freshly sown carrot bed, he runs down the middle of deep beds sown with French beans, he chases birds, and even creeps up on me when I am weeding, steals my white floppy hat, and runs away with it.
I would like to know just how Monty has trained his dog to behave so wonderfully in a TV 'show garden' and how he prevents it getting up to mischief.
Unless of course, it's all a specially staged appearance just for the cameras!
Whatever the case, I always look forward to the dog's appearance in the programme.
I suspect there are some outtakes somewhere, where that lovely woofler runs off with gardening gloves, wees on the plants, sleeps on the warm compost heap etc. etc
All in a busy dog's gardening day!
It's called not being a soft touch.
Firmly but fairly letting the dog know stepping into the borders isn't allowed. As with most animal training, consistency is required, as is a little persistence while he/she gets the message.
Sorry to be a pedant, but it's a Golden Retriever, not labrador. J.
As with his garden, the Donster will have hired staff to train the dog.
I think you are being silly.!
Dogs that are loved don't need much training anyway - they want to please
My BIL managed to train their dogs not to walk on a small carpeted area in their open plan house. They will not so much as put the edge of a claw on the carpet. The cat on the other hand is a different story!
Its GARDENERS WORLD not Crufts
Exactly!! First Alys Fowler, now Monty Don - give us plants not pets!!
Does amyone sometimes get the feeling people - some people - would like just plants - no presenters or animals?
Are you even sure about the plants?
Oh yes, definitely plants.......and presenters who are horticulturally qualified and proper gardeners who know their subject.Perfect
