I have been reading through all the fors and against about MD. (who I really like as the presenter of GW, but we all know this should have gone to the saintly Carole )....and I read that
someone labelled him as an 'ecowarrier'
    .
Well, I have heard somewhere along the line, and I can't remember where or how...that he thinks hunting with dogs is ok.

Please could we have a debate about this and find the evidence about his position.
If he is accepting of hunting, then, sorry, despite how much I love the programme, I shall have to switch off when he comes on..Please tell me I am wrong and that I can keep on watching with a clear conscience..

Why, oh why didn't the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú give the job to Carole?

Hunting with dogs better replicates the natural order. The fitter survive, the weak, old and infirm get caught.

The current set up up means every fox caught in the cross hairs is dispatched. There's many more being killed now than there ever was.

We removed their natural predators and with have to deal or live with the consequences. Another case of the doing gooders brigade throwing their tantrums without thinking of the bigger pictures.

No point in discussing it at all
The original accusation has no substantiating evidence given.

I'd pay good money to see that!! smiley - biggrin
Much as I am a non-fan of Monty Don's, it is sooo wrong to discuss a rumour.I for one, am going to ignore this thread from now on.

I googled and found nothing about Monty on hunting with dogs - not that it's any of our business or relevant to gardening on TV or anywhere else.

I did though, find this article from 2001 which briefly mentons hunting. The rest is an elegy to gardening, the earth and people that tend the earth. It's beautiful. Do read it.

What MD thinks about hunting with foxes is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned and has no relevance to his ability to present a gardening programme. I won't be drawn into his suitability to present the programme based on a tenuous rumour. Where will it end? Are we going to judge presenters on their politics, their religion, their support of a football team? The original poster is wealding a big wooden spoon and giving it a right old stir.

i dont really care if Monty supports fox hunting- loads of people who know nothing about the countryside support hunting and i don't hold it against them.

I've always lived in the countryside. My internet coverage has been down for a few weeks; thats just par for the course. Rather than Joey Shakes i should be Cousin Cleotis, Eli or Skooter. But I have to say cufcskin, there is no natural order with man made selected breeds of hound being set loose on a none native animal.

it costs more to hunt in the shires in jan-feb when they get the long straight chases (as year old dog faces race home when confronted with a pack of hounds). The idea that they only kill the weak is ridiculous. Where uis the fun in a short chase?

Anyone whio dabbles in science knows that fox numbers, while mildly fluctuating, stay around 900,000 mark. Fox hunting used to kill 20,000. So, eh 880,000 is ok but 900,000 was too much? I dont believe that Monty is daft enough to fall for this crazy hair lipped rhetoric. The problems facing the countryside are a) housing shortages due to townies moving in. b) post offices and library services closed by successive governments c) no buses d) no work. e) everything else we like whining about

Fox hunting is all about bullying- seventeen and a half couple of hounds opnto one fox followed by 100 idiots on horeses and a gang of forelock tugging sycophants and terrier mad sadists in battered pick ups, its just bullying- and Monty Don is no bully

No one should be slurred like that
