    I am currently watching one of only 2 half hour programmes from Tatton Park and yet more than once has it been mentioned that this is the largest show in the North! Why then can the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú cover Chelsea and Hampton Court for hours at a time is 1 hour over 2 days all they can mange from Tatton. Do others agree and if so maybe we can pressure the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to remember that us up t'north like gardening as well!!

    I would agree that I would like to see more. I still do not understand why they cannot put programs on overnight etc Surely a junior presenter could do the extra shows if Monty etc are too busy/expensive.

    I was not aware that it was a north/south issue just thought it was lack of initiative.

    And yet the presenter team there was bigger than ever - Monty, Joe, Carol, Rachel and Andy Sturgeon. The filming team will have been on site for the best part of four days.

    Such a lot of input and effort for so little coverage. So little that my garden's 15 second piece had to be cut despite a gold medal. Oh well...

    With so little time allocated to it, what really annoys me is the side-tracking to show how exhibitors grow/decide etc for their displays, when what most people would expect is actual coverage of the show.

    This isnt just at Tatton. Surely there is enough material at the actual show to fill the allocated time without the extras.
    Yes it's interesting, but if I couldnt get to the show I would want to see the actual gardens & exhibits. J.

    There are some pics on my blog. Google Sue Beesley or Grasses with Grace - it should come up.

    More pics to follow and might take a bit of video footage tomorrow if I can find the camera....

    Exactly - but it's been said before and been ignored.

    We like the info about the growers and exhibitors and how gardens are built but as a separate show or series. Show coverage should be just that - the gardens, floral marquee and other goodies and plants people at the show.

    Not to show a gold medal garden when time was given to silver and sliver gilts and that pink travesty is just barmy but well done anyway Trillium. Fortunately for me a friend of mine went to Tatton on Wednesday and has sent me a couple of pictures of your garden. it was her favourite even though she doesn't actually like yellow in her own garden..

    Hi Trillium. I've just had a look at the 360 degree panorama on the RHS Tatton website. Beautiful work. I love the lightness of touch the grasses bring to the planting and the balance of foliage colour and form under the Betula. I'm posting a link to the site, I hope you don't mind.

    I go along with what you say Tatton is a great show and I would go so far as saying this is the best one yet and I have seen a few.

    Perhaps if the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú would not be so set in there ways and listen to the viewers things could be better.

    I would rather see more snippets of the exhibits rather than long winded talks about the major exhibits.

    During the filming of one exhibit I overhead one exhibotor cursing the film crew about the time they spent and the damage they do to get about thirty seconds of viewing time.

    Like lots of TV programmes I often like the highlights of the days play/events rather than the long winded commentaries.

    Here are my highlights of the show;

    Feel free to use the 'titles' facility if you want.

    Personally I don't like to as the title block obscures some of the picture, but the choice is yours!

    I have split the pictures into various groups to give a series of short (ish) slide shows, rather than one large one.

    I hope you approve!

    SS1; Back to Back gardens;

    SS2;Featured Gardens and Flower beds;

    SS3;Local schools Container and 'country gardens

    SS4; The Show Gardens;

    SS5; A few trade stands that caught my eye;

    Enjoy!!

    Yes - once again many congratulations on the GOLD medal, Trillium - your garden is beautiful, with lovely bold, simple lines and superb skill in the planting combinations!

    I wondered whether we might get a bit more Tatton coverage in the future now that so much of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's moving to Media City in Salford? I certainly hope so...

    Just arrived back from Tatton, fantastic show why so little on the tv? ( so little else on at this time.) Surely cannot be north south divide. Saw Monty been filmed but totally ignored the crown at the rear of the camera ( looked very moody though)

    I thought twice before posting this - I don't wish to be perceived as complaining, but...

    There were 8 gold medal winning gardens at Tatton Show. Mine was the only one not covered at all on GW - not so much as a 10 second passing shot. OK - a bit annoying for me personally, but I understand how it is - no real 'story' and something has to give with limited air time.

    But now I've received countless comments from people unable to attend the show who feel let down that they didn't get to see it. And I've lost count of the number of people who did come to the show telling me it was their favourite - a real garden with superb planting (that's what the judges said too).

    Taking into account the extensive coverage from Chelsea and Hampton Court, I think I might be the only gold medal RHS show garden in 2011 not covered by the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.

    There we are. Said and done.

    I think I would be very annoyed and upset if I were you.

    Having just seen best in show Glen on LYG, you obviously need the back story to feature. How does the RHS expect to promote gardening if this is how they treat their gold medal winners.

    You have every reason to feel short changed Trillium. I watched the programme tonight, expecting to see much, much more of the whole show. Why on earth they wasted time at the zoo, goodness only knows. It was a time-waster.

    Thank goodness for TeeGee's photos - I saw more there than on the TV.

    Oh, and as for the Jo Swift football nonsense - I know where I would put the red card.

    Anyway - well done with the gold medal. Who knows, maybe the beeb will realise that there's more to garden shows than just Chelsea.

    I feel that Trillium has every reason to feel a little disappointed - I would have thought that given her history - GOTY etc - a really good story could have been created for her 'slot'.

    Pretty poor show in my opinion.

    I started to watch the programme last night and switched off as Carol was 'gushing' on about the Dinosaur back to back garden.

    I turned it back on again as Monty was giving his views in the Floral marquee.

    My thoughts then were;

    I think more people ( including Trillium) would want to see the once in a life time gardens as opposed to plants that you can see in the Garden Centres & nurseries at any time.

    Then this morning I found out why!!!!!

    I took delivery of my August edition of 'The Garden' and lo and behold most of the plants that Monty discussed were being offered in the sales literatue accompanying the magazine!

    Well done RHS for taking the opportunity( or should I say 'liberty') to advertise on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.

    So in MHO; the tax payer paid for a bit of free advertising for the RHS.

    Whos leading who? the RHS or the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú?

    I rest my case no more GW for me (not that I watched it very often in any case)

    This is exactly why I posted I really wanted to see the grass garden as a friend who had been there on the RHS day had said I would love it.

    A few have critised me for making a north/south comment but I was only making a comment about the fact that the only Northern show did not get even a quarter of the time that each of the southern shows got. I doubt very much that anybody from the actual gardening programming dept reads these posts so will probably be unaware of how much they have disappointed so many of us.

    Trillium will you be exhibiting at the Southport show? Another Northern show but not under RHS auspices so no chance of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú visiting it (haha)

    Yes - I'll be at Southport - it will be my first toe in the water in a floral marquee. Am rather nervous - but it's a rehearsal for more next year....

    Re GW - my guess is no conspiracy and no cock up - it just got cut because the segment was unexciting. Andy Sturgeon mentioned two proper plant names in it - perhaps that was the reason!

    Your Garden was beautiful, but we couldn't tell you how much we enjoyed it, as you were busy all the time we were there.

    Having watched the coverage, when I got home, I thought the same as someone else mentioned - that it would have made an interesting feature, to show someone who had won GOTY, to have gone on to win gold. My memory's not brilliant, and I know you didn't do a Show Garden last year, but didn't they ignore you then also? I seem to remember thinking that it must have been too much like a garden, for them to be interested.

    Trillium, I'm not at all surprised you're cheesed off with your treatment by the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú - personally I'm fuming for you! You got a GOLD, for heaven's sake - they should have at least shown a good shot of your garden with a caption, even if they didn't screen a bit of someone knowledgable taking about it! I don't think we got enough of Andy Sturgeon to have made his visit worthwhile - I would have welcomed a bit more from him, even if it included - horror of horrors - the botanical names of a few plants! You never know, we might just have learned something!!!

    BTW Jo4 - sorry I didn't see you again later, and the others (especially JoanyBird) - the friend I was with needs to eat regularly at the moment, and that was the time she needed it! Hope to see you again sometime in the future - maybe Tatton!

    I too was disappointed not to see Trillium's garden on TV smiley - sadface and think the GOTY story etc would have been more interesting than some of the other stories. But there you go .... smiley - erm
