Well, I REALLY enjoy the programme!
Yes, I agree that Carole is underused at times, that Monty can say some dodgy stuff ( they seem to forget that there are gardens north of Cheshire )...AND I don't like everything in a programme. But there has to be something for everyone + no I dont' think there is too much veg.
The production is excellent + the whole half hour is pure joy to the eye.
It shouldn't be all about pumping out info.
This is a visual medium + I think the production team have done really well to show gardens and plants in all their beauty.
Please don't be so harsh on newcomers, they all have to start somewhere.
I am a huge fan of Beechgrove, but that is a quite different type of programme.
They are both lovely programmes in their own ways, and anything which inspires people to get out there and do some planting must be a good thing.

You make some good points but why coudn't you put your post in the new thread already started about last nights offering?
PPP
Possibly because the thread started out as if it was going to be entirely critical
That can be a bit daunting to many posters, who would like to say the opposite..

Nooj - your insight in these matters astounds me! Or could it be your usual defensive stance?
Was that necessary?:

Well, mahintali is an Archers person....a hardy breed, not given to being 'daunted'.
I do understand these things.
Off you toddle to the next thread, to say nice things about, you know who.
That's very rude Nooj and entirely uncalled for!!!
It was a genuine question and I really like to know people's opinions.
Don't bring your own prejudices to these boards and land them on to other people's shoulders, the poster in question probably missed my thread.
Start your own sychophantic thread next week and spread the adulation amongst your acolytes - at least I'll know which thread to avoid!!!!!!!!!!
Lowena - what was rude and uncalled for?
are you assuming that i meant your intial post? .
Of course i didn't!
it hadn't even aired then!
Crikey!

Lowena,
Do you have sole rights to start threads on Gardeners World? I only ask bacause it would appear to be so.
I'm very sorry that you do not like the present Gardeners World programme and presenters.
You could have watched the Spaghetti Western Orcestra instead.
Best wishes,
dwarfbean
Lowena
thanks for asking after my acolytes - they've been a lot better since I stopped scratching them and put some cortisone cream on.....
Nooj
Dwarfbean - I'm bemused at your vitriol ( I believe Nooj has some cream for it , I just happened to be around to start a thread, and I don't dislike GW otherwise I wouldn't watch it. There are aspects of it I like and aspects I don't like I pointed both out on the other thread.I have no objection to multiple threads, in fact I am writing on the "other GW this week thread "now.
I really don't see what your problem with me is? also, as this is the subject of the thread, what did you think of the programme?
Don't have a go at dwarfbean!
One of the good guys!
play nicely now lowena!
Dwarfbean was having a go at me.......and I was very, very, upset
Nooj,
How painful are the acolytes/ Did you catch them off someone on here?
Lowena,
I don't have a problem with you. Just with some of the things that you write on here. There is a difference.
What do I think of Gardeners World this week. I enjoyed the piece on the allotments, but then I would as I do a lot of gardening on mine.I can also put up with the flowery bits.
dwarfbean
Of course, you could always restrict your comments to the programme in question.....I thought that was the general idea.
There I go, repeating myself again!
Dwarfbean was having a go at me.......and I was very, very, upset 听
Lowena,
If you think that that was having a go at you then you really need to wake up and smell the coffee.
dwarfbean
You'll be fine tomorrow Lowena.
You were not upset. Don't pout
Chin up.!
I think I might go to bed soon
If only I had an acolyte - even half a tube......
Hey Nooj has that Lowena been getting at you again?
Lowena leave my friend alone. OK.
Who are you???
I am only on here to discuss gardening programmes and their presenters styles.
Where's Chris Beardshaw when you need him?

I wish I could get Beechgrove, I'd like to make a comparison.
Even though I liked Toby's presenting style, I do actually think this series of GW is better as it comes from someone's actual garden. It would be even better, in my opinion, if we saw far more of the garden and saw much more work being done in it.We could see the garden visits during the winter gap when we don't get GW at all.
Amazing is a friend and expert gardener., and another 'good guy.'
Obelixx, don't worry about David patronising me - and being rude - it's what i've come to expect unless he is slavishly agreed with all the time.
How did Chris Beardshaw get into this ???
Nice chap....
Posts crossed Lowena - can't you watch Beechgrove on I player?
of course I could...silly me!! I'll definitely give it a try - is it 麻豆官网首页入口 Scotland I look for?
Oh.....and I'd get Chris Beardshaw into anything ha ha
It's 麻豆官网首页入口 Scotland but also sometimes 麻豆官网首页入口2 Scotland ans usually gioes out on a Monday evening. You should find it easily in te alphabetical listings.
I agree about garden visits being a good subject for winter programming but also like to see them at the appropriate time in teh season for ideas and inspiration. We always used to get a winter special series whether it was GH doing his Paradise Gradens, Ornamental Kitchen Garden and so on or AT with his How to be a Gardener.
There seems to be a lack of will and ideas in 麻豆官网首页入口's commissioning department. A new Beardshaw Hidden Gardens or Flying Gardener would be great and I always thopught he should do a Euro gardener since some great horticulture goes on here and there, some great gardens and garden shows and many plant introductions too..
We could surely also have repeats of gardening series as they seem to have no shame in churning out endless repeats of antique and junk shows dressed up as competitions, buying houses at auctions, will hunters and many more.
Lowena, you may not like Beechgrove as it is made in a purpose built set of demonstration/display gardens just how Greenacres was but it's been going a long time so is 'matured'.
I never miss it, but sometimes I get a little tired of the 'trials'. They always seem to involve bedding type plants and are consequently planted out in lines.
A lot of boarders on here don't like the community garden projects but I do.
There is always lots of veg. The trials are good for that. We are used to planting our veg out in lines!
The programme reminds me of the Weekly paper, 'Garden News'.
Please do watch it and let us know what you think. You may have to put the subtitles on though!
Sue
Hi Sue. Some of their trials do seem old fashioned in their choice of bedding plants but I like the fact that they announce them and follow up with both successes, failures and conclusions. I'm finding the one comparing gerbera type daisies interesting and the ones with different treatments to promote growth such as the pea and bean booster compared with Growmore, though I do wonder why they're using chemical Gmore rather than pelleted chicken manure and other organic alternatives.
I also like the camaraderie between the presenters and the fact that they acknowledge the various strengths and quirks of each other as well as the work of the gardeners behind the scenes. They also manage to pack a lot in each week without seeming hurried or superficial.

Well, I think that answers my question as to who pushed the button on Obs post.!
Actually, I will admit to getting a tiny bit annoyed now...........
Thanks Sue, will watch and report back? What's happened Nooj? Whatever it is, it's nothing to do with me - I've been gardening all day
No Lowena - nothing to do with you, I know.
It makes me so sad, button pushing - I'd rather have things out in the open that's all.
Some people do not have the courage of their convictions but hate to be thwarted
Onward and upward
Well I watched Beechgrove via the 麻豆官网首页入口 I player. It had an eclectic mix of subjects very reminiscent of Garden News, and , for me, like GN, there was too much fruit and veg. However, it was an enjoyable programme overall, especially the cuttings piece
I don't know if I'll watch it again as I don't enjoy watching things via the computer, but I probably will, just to give it a fair trial Is it always the same presenters?
There's always Jim and Carol and they are joined on an intermittent basis by 3 other regulars, specialist subjects, garden visits and problem fixing in viewers' gardens which usually involves one of the gardeners.
What has happened to Gardeners World! The programme seems to be about Monty and how he can make his own garden over. Does anyone think, that as a viewer we can't relate to any of this show. Monty has no horticultural training and hasn't even worked in the industry. He pronounces plant names wrong every week and his horticultural techniques are a joke.
This is what happening every week on gardeners world - Monty plants his own garden up with perennials at the expense of the 麻豆官网首页入口 and sometimes mentions his dog, or pigs which have nothing to do with gardening.
If Monty lived in the real world he might understand gardening that we can all relate too.

This is pretty well how I see things, but someone will be along soon to say that the vast majority are happy with him 鈥 nice dog though.

I think the vast majority of people are happy with Monty and there are no fools like some of the old fools here.
I thoroughly enjoyed Joe's piece on the Dordogne garden and the strange landscape created by the box balls. Whilst a lot of people moan about Joe on GW I think really he is wasted on garden programmes as, like him or not, he is a very accomplished presenter and could probably turn his hand to a variety of topics.
I find Monty in his own garden much more relaxed and comfortable viewing than at Berryfields and I like the personal touches of the dog and pigs. If I only gain one gardening tip a week out of the programme then that is fine by me - it gives me ideas and inspiration to find out the finer details of how to do things on the web or in a book.

See my message 38!
Myself I have absolutely no idea of the percentages for or against him, but I would like to know what evidence there is for statements such as 'I think the vast majority of people are happy with Monty.....be assured, people on some other message boards are far more critical of him than those here.
I quote one from last night 'I watched him doing his 'piece to camera' when I worked for a nursery that had a show garden at Hampton Court a few years ago.
He drove the camera crew bonkers with his prima donna-ish behaviour and multiple takes.'
I will say that all his input does seem to be overly choreographed.

I read these comments about GW every week and the first thing that springs to mind about the complainers is why do you put yourselves through such agonies ever week-to the point when someone posts comments twice!!
It is Gardeners World presented by Monty Don accept and get over it- if you seriously think the 麻豆官网首页入口 will take any note whatsoever of opinions on this board then I have to say you are deluding yourselves
There lots of programmes on the 麻豆官网首页入口 that I dont like or are not interested in does that mean they should not be shown?
After all in the bigger scheme of things it is just a tv programme and at some point the presenter will change, be it next year or in 5 years-who knows-but in the meantime sit back and enjoy or not as the case maybe.
We all have opinions and that is what this messageboard is about -but some constructive comments or real alternatives would make a change.
That is just my opinion-please dont tell me If I dont like comments then dont read them, or say Carol would make a better presenter,or Monty has no clue -all that has been said before.

Well I thought this week's programme was superb! The Piet Oudolf garden and the Dordogne garden were (IMO) sensational, so different and yet so beautiful. Well done GW!
