Hi I am new to these boards (my first post).
I just wanted to say that GW is an excellent show and that Monty is a thoroughly nice chap.
I particularly like it when they show his radio playing that delightful music.
Anyway that’s all I wanted…………..oh sugar I forgot to change my name, I hope no one notices, beggar now I’m thinking out loud, I’m off.
You really are a Richard or Monty..............

As a 'new' poster Don, you have no right to any opinion.
I enjoyed the last programme although I don't think Monty should be wandering around in a leather jerkin more suited to a man half his age. #muttongate
I don't think leather jerkins suit anyone but that's no doubt a matter of personal taste.

You speak wisely Obi One. Although you might find a leather jerkin quite advantageous when enduring -32c
Only -26C last winter. Thermals, ski socks, fleeces, gloves and wellies for gardening. Fur fabric lined coats and jackets for going out. Leather is just too impractical being heavy, not good in the rain and not very warming.
and smelly!
I thought he looked quite fetching - but to misquote Christine Keeler
well I would, wouldn't I?
Leather is good in that it wipes down and is so tough you don't get stabbed by prickly things , and your clothes don't get ripped.
It was fellow goodtime gal, Mandy Rice-Davies whom you've misquoted (so my father tells me). I wonder if she's available for garden visits? I'm sure she could giggle at the right time.
Was it?
I too was so young I wouldn't be sure !
I wonder what on earth (gardening reference) happened to them eventually?
Past giggling I would think.
Dunno about the giggling Nooj. Didn't Mandy R-D appear in later episodes of Absolutely Fabulous?
Having seen leather sofs ruined by cats or jeans with pocket rivets, I think I'll stick to wearing old clothes that can be shredded, especially when playing with rosa Kiftsgate or my toothache tree as both have vicious thorns.
I can't remember if it was horse manure or mushroom compost I was having delivered, but the bloke and waggon arrived and he was wearing a leather apron down to his ankles. Quite scary.
I was reminded of leather apron that they looked at as a suspect in the Jack the Rpper case
Was all that Profumo stuff in the sixties?
I suppose they would have been quite young.
What's a toothache tree?
Yes to leather sofas and cats - we had ours recovered in the end.
I've lost the label so don't know the botanical name but the leaves or bark were used by natives to cure toothache. I got it at Kalmthout nursery when visiting to see and smell their famous hamamelis collection one chilly February a few years ago. It has huge thorns, good foliage and red berries in autumn. Mine also has a clematis Red Ballon scrambled through it and which is covered in fluffy seedheads full of sheltering insects. Looks great with the berries.
The Profumo affair was 1963. Now I feel old. I remember it being on the news but was too young to comprehend what all the fuss was about.
like willow then? For pain relieving.
!963?
That would fit with the hairstyles I remember....
I don't think the news went into detail in those days - perhaps politically, but not in most other ways

Thats a bit harsh, actually Don has been around for a couple of years but not all the time on the Gardening threads.
Rain
I can remember Miss K.
There was a famous photograph where she was sitting on a chair facing the wrong way she seemed to be wearing very little.
dwarfbean
She was wearing nothing. As a result of the trial and all the publicity she had a contract to do nude photos to promote a film about the affair but was reluctant so they came up with that chair pose.
Rain, I think you'll find that Esmeralda was being facetious about how precious some older posters are about anyone new on here daring to have an opinion that contradicts their vast experience and knowledge which is so much more extensive than Monty's.
and Don is being ironic-weren't you?
